VOLA's music exists in a borderline area of rock, that is as high-flying and melodically fulfilling as it is itchy and heavy. The band forms quirky trails of distorted bass and guitars, entangling synth lines and constantly groove-driven drums that play up against wide vocal harmonies and deep-blue-textured electronica.
The Danish-Swedish quartet grew out of a common interest in eclectic, groove-oriented music which draws inspiration ranging from 70's progressive rock to modern-day electronica, industrial and extreme metal.
VOLA features Asger Mygind on vocals and guitar, Nicolai Mogensen on bass, Martin Werner on keyboards and Adam Janzi on drums.
Never truly listened to Vola before, but this song is amazing. The unique, metalic synth sound, the melancholic heavy guitars on the intro and chorus, the catchy vocal melody, the dynamics... Masterfully written radiophonic prog rock. Which is how I like my progs: musical, not "hey, look how complex our music is".
They have been my favorite band for the last few years but if I’m being honest that main synthesizer sound is super super annoying. The parts of the song without it are awesome and like so many other comments on here, that ending could be double the current length. I really hope that synth sound is only on this track and doesn’t appear on other tracks on this album.
This is definately my favourite VOLA song, and the video suits this song so well, im so exited for the friend of a phantom album this year, it will for sure be incredible and im hoping to see you guys on tour aswell :)
