Use almost the same identical setup down here in Fl with the same lure. It’s unbelievable how much abuse the st croix can take. Do the tarpon notice the mono to fluorocarbon knot and how many tarpon will you say you catch before having to replace the mono section? I use straight 60 for leader but cannot reel it through the guides
Have you ever tried a red Phillips knot? I have had problems of the braid cutting into my fluorocarbon and snapping right at the end of the knot on the fg.. I understand this could be operator error.. but recently switched to the red Phillips for bass fishing and it holds great, but never had a go with it on anything over 8 lbs. Just wondering if you had? It's just way easier to tie for me.
We are throwing lures mainly with these rods, but you could get away with probably a 2 ounce. I would suggest going to the 15 to 30 pound rod for bait fishing.

Where's Cumberland Island at?? I've been to Assateague Island Maryland many many times...with the wild ponies. Never heard of Cumberland Island tho. They're SERIOUS huh!?!!😳👊🏻❤🇺🇲lol Pretty cool Oh wow!! The terrain looks alot like Assateague Island. Damn!! They're really swimming at the end!! Anybody else take notice to the fish that jumped outta the water when the horses were heading towards the boat in the beginning of the clip??😁 I saw it!
My husband fished off Cumberland n has state record for Re͏d fish. See Howard Davis, he has one . I believe it’s at his store where he sells guns in kingsland. With photo.had six. Gave him one n Martin Gillette, use to be probate judge, two. After he died. Huge fish.
I was s resident of Cumberland, full time for years. Retained rights agreement, till my husband died, it was for his life. This looks like little Cumberland Island ...the horse swam from big Cumberland, it appears. Any idea where you were. So neat to have the opportunity to capture that. They’d come up and peek in my windows and drink fresh water. So did turkeys, pigs, etc. they are very territorial. I’d alwsys recognize horses and their colts in different areas of the island.
Hi Sandra us this is in Christmas Creek in between the 2 islands. One bourse came over from The big island and the family from the little island wasn’t having it. They fought and eventually the stallion from little Cumberland won.
For the larger fish yes. The Stradic would not have the line capacity or drag to handle them consistently. Could you catch one with it? I’m sure but longevity I would not use it. The drag on the Saragossa is superior and the reel is made for salt.
