most garbage trucks have two steering wheels to allow drivers to operate from either side, improving efficiency and safety when collecting garbage on the curbside and picking up trash cans
Whenever wife would ask, “what truck you’re using today”. I’ll reply with, “I’m jerking off the truck playing with tip” and she already knows I’m doing residential route with a python 😂😅🤣 #RecologySouthBay
Corporate switched all but 2 of our residential routes from rearload to asl. We had 5 asl routes and 10 rearload routes including 3 recycling routes. They moved the trash routes first with new pythons and now getting new zrs. I do recycling with 6 days out in the county and 4 days in town. Ive been in one of the old zrs since the switch it wasnt to hard to reroute my days from rearload to asl. Just a bit more driving. They've decided to give me a python so I'll need to learn the new arm but at least its a new truck lol. If you're in an autocar there is a cupholder sold on amazon that will fit in their oversized cupholder.
Amazing Video! Feel free to use any of my pictures! I loved this POV! If I come to you with a GoPro, Can I put it up on the hopper or somewhere else? I really like these trucks so much more then the pythons. Yet it is a little slower. I am not a big fan of the pythons. I personally love the sidewinder. One of my favorite trucks that recology has. I get out of school early tomorrow, around 12: 30. Do you do a route anywhere by that time tomorrow? If so can you please tell me the area so I can film you again! It was very fun filming someone I knew. Was this recording from yesterday? I was looking for myself in the video but I realized I saw you at like 7:00 in the morning, it was still dark. Amazing video
That is very cool, do you end up finishing earlier or later cause the arm takes longer to cycle? It must be nice not having to hear the blade slams thousands of times of day, plus no more arm that knocks things over lol. Are you finding this truck can hold the same amount per load compared to Heil or less. We have ZRs here in Henderson NV, and the drivers say our Heils can hold a lot more. Will this be your new permanent truck? Also, so much stuff that can either be recycled or composted in the regular garbage!
I don't know about other people but my company used to be all Heils until we demoed one of these and now it's pretty much all we buy. I am on my second brand new one and I love it. They pack way more than any of our Heils ever could. I love how gentle the arm is compared to a Heil as well.
always got great camera angles 🤙🏽 I’m always afraid to do that with my cell phone camera. I don’t want it falling into my hopper😅 check me out if you haven’t brotha🚛🫡
OK I see u I didn’t want to use those angles because I might get in trouble idk😅 check me out brother 🫡🚛 I think our joysticks work better You got too many buttons on there😅
This is so cool to hear you do this and talk about the things that go on to do a route timely and effectively. I think another thing that effects route timing is in the condition of the truck. A driver im friends with was behind an hour because his blade was so slow, had to stop several times to manually run it and cycle it back. I felt bad for him, the arm was a good pace but slow blade. The backing make sense but avoid it as much as possible, i know there are times when you cant avoid it. I once recorded a route in Manhattan Beach with homes by the beach and the residents set thei carts out in the alleys, the drviers have to back into them all day from PCH i think to get into all those alleys. It does look stressful, especially during rush hour. I love the running circles route, it is perfect if you are recording a route thst is rural but the blocks are squared. In Henderson, NV i record and the drivers call those rural areas 'the scattereds' cause the stops are far apart, but they just make right turns all day, helps me to know where they will he next before they even finish the block lol. It was cool seeing you map out the areas, i couldnt find the quirk though. Awesome stuff, always enjoy the stuff you post. It would be cool to see you filming your truck pack out and having the blade run several cycles to pack it away.
i’m glad you liked the video. Yes, my current route is recycling. But we can do the other commodities for over time as a re-assignments using the same truck.
The mack LR is a rough riding piece of crap. I go home every night my neck and back hurting. Yall seriously need to work on the front suspension. You hit a hole in the road and it's like knock the Jesus out of you. Don't put air in the seat....itll jack hammer you for days. Mack LR sucks bad.
Been driving a 2012 mack zr and yeah it can't turn worth a darn and is rough lol. Guys make fun of me for sitting on the floor with the seat aired all the way down lol
Cool to see you catch another stream! Would you say it's harder to pack recycle than green waste when it's getting full? Did someone break down that day is that why they had you helping? Glad to see you're back with another video!
When you're doing yard waste, or a garbage route you tend to exceed the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) before you finish packing up, as yard waste mainly consists of wet and dry grass or leaves it compacts much better than recycling materials. If you notice evey truck displays a GVWR sticker on its driver's side door where their registration extension sticker goes. Most standard 3 or 4-axle garbage trucks have either a 50,000 lb or 60,000 lb GVWR, depending on whether they are equipped with a tag/drop axle. Notably, recycling trucks, (which I mostly drive) unlike garbage or yard waste trucks, typically lack a tag (4th) axle, resulting in significantly lower weight capacity. Therefore by law I am not supposed to be packing up when doing garbage ord yard waste because my groas weight will be well north of 55,000 pb if that makes sense. To your question yes, Yes. Yard waste and garbage packs way better than recycling materials :)
To the other question, the driver who does this route was on vacation this week. When there is a open residential side loader route they usually break it down into 2-3 separate sections and put it out as re-assignment or OT as we call it.
recycling doesn’t pack that well Usually recycling routes have to do two loads unless it’s raining…. Because the recycling compact like a sponge and the blade doesn’t go all the way back.(when it’s raining it packs a lot better.) With green waste organics, you can fit everything but it’s a lot more heavier preferably green routes are better, especially during the winter time because all the green cans aren’t out
@@GarbageNation oh yeah. we don’t switch trucks when doing OT of different commodities. as long as you clean up those pockets and dump completely you should be good!
Thank you for tuning in! I should be fine using the GoPro as it is. I can see the preview on my phone and as long as I can see the frame and get the SD card out thats all it matters :)
Glad you posted, I've been wanting to see more, real bummer about your camera, sorry to see that happened. Sounds like you will be back in no time. Do you do recycle all week? It would be cool to see you collecting the other streams if possible. How do you like working with the Python arm? Republic in Henderson NV had a big fleet of them but as of recent, we are getting McNeilus ZR which can grab cans without worrying of knocking things over much. The packer does not slam either so I am sure that is a plus. I do like seeing this arm in action though. It would be cool if you did a video of your truck packing out and we get to see you run the blade multiple times back in forth to pack all that in. Do the recology pythons allow you to run the blade into the body while on route? I see my Python drivers do that all the time when the blade gets full and they run it into the body and move the blade back and forth multiple times to help the stuff go down.
Hey there! Thanks for coming back and your comment. I really appreciate your support. It's definitely a bummer, but I should be ok using the camera through the GoPro app on my phone. It’s still recording and saving on the SD card :) As for recycling, yes, I do it all week and I'm hoping to capture more. Working with the Python arm is great and got pretty used to it. (LOL, also thats all I have worked with) - its flexibility is quite handy. Interesting to hear about the McNeilus ZR’s. keep me posted how they do. Regarding your question, no, they don’t allow us to manually run the blade into the body. Actually the shop don’t like it because it causes hydraulic hoses to burst pretty often. It also known as “pen packing” because you have to use a pen on the outside the body to push on some solenoid. but drivers do it often. It's a helpful technique to manage full load to make. Thanks again for your engagement and feedback!
@@trashtrekkertv I see. I have noticed drivers getting out and pushing on something outside the truck with a pen and it pushes the blade back, haven't seen that in a while though. They must have done something to our trucks cause I've seen them run the blade into the body without them having to get out and use the pen. I guess the mechanics don't care much cause they wanna get rid of the old trucks as quickly as possible from what I've heard. The drivers will also move the blade forward a few inches and then quickly retract it, they repeat those steps 4 or 5 times and it makes the blade slam a lot, I guess it helps push the load better cause they do that when it's getting full. They do this while accelerating the truck. Do they allow you guys to accelerate the truck when manual packing? The ZRs are doing great. The drivers love it cause it has better AC, and the arm is much easier for them to maneuver. The only problem is the ZR blade does terrible on recycle as cardboard backs it up fast so the drivers have to take their time and manually to pack when they get a lot of cardboard. The Durapack blade is superior when it comes to packing cardboard. We also got a Heil SST a few years back but it was Left hand drive only and the driver hated the arm, it broke down too much and all the new controls for the truck were unnecessary. They sent that truck back to Heil and I never saw it again. I got a decent length video of it though.
That's pretty funny. I also employ a similar technique as well. I pack the blade and immediately retract it back, it effectively let the refuse or garbage sitting on top of the pack blade to fall into the hopper. This is very effective when accelerating the truck from a standstill. Or else loose papers and other materials tend to fly all across the street :) Reason why I am saying it's funny is nobody trained me or taught me this kind of method and I kind of picked it up on my own and here you are telling me the same technique other people uses. ZR definitely looked like it would work good with their Zero Radius without knocking over cans n stuff. The one unit they brought to us had 8 feet of reach and drivers who tried didn't like it. It was way too high/ tall for our needs and the muffler was kissed by the tree branch and broken on the first day of try :) McNeilus girl was telling us that they also have 12 feet extended reach arm as well. Their 31 CY body was too tall and long for our use. Maneuvering on that unit was sucks as well. In terms of Heil SST, I haven't seen or experienced myself but I know that it comes with right side driving as well. I saw it on RU-vid videos and the arm looked and worked kind of awkward to me. Good conversations here brother !!!
@@trashtrekkertv it would be cool to see you employ that blade pack and retract technique on video with a full hopper, that would be fun to watch :) When it comes to the ZR some drivers aren't a fan cause the arm sticks out too much even when it is completely retracted to the body. I've seen it from certain angles and it does stick out tons, but I'm sure the drivers get used to it. Our pythons also have an auto dump feature for the arm, do your trucks have that too? Some drivers say it is better to control the arm manually then using the auto dump feature.
The zrs and other zero radius type arms are easier to get into tighter areas with less chance of hitting things. I just went from a zr to a python. What I miss from the zr is the joystick rocker is more precise to open and close the fingers. The 3 finger arm grabs carts more securely then the 2 finger on my python. What I like is the extra reach the python has over my old zr, and I can grab boxes with the hand bring them up top and drop them in. I really do like the autocar has way better turn radius then the mack.
We have PDF regen systems on our Cummins and Scania buses at my workplace in the UK England 🇬🇧 keep up with the great work and video content take care and stay safe buddy from Dickie
Thank you, Dickie! PDF regen is a complicated and hard to maintain systems but definitely worth to have it in my opinion. Your support is much appreciated. Stay safe and take care as well!
How’s the job going? I started operating a side lift garbage truck only 6 weeks ago. To be honest I hated it at first but now I’m starting to enjoy it more and more. It was the runs that put me off in the beginning as our company relies on paper maps but I’m starting to get the hang of things now!
You work that python arm very well those are one of the toughest to operate especially when containers aren’t lined up properly great job and video 💯💯💪🏾👌🏾
I take it you do weekly recycling cause seeing you say you can get 1,200 cans in one load is quite impressive. I drive an Automizer and 1,200 cans means a two or three load day for me because it’s bi-weekly recycling. Cool video though.
I would have to take that away though! On that particular day that the most cans are 32 and 20 gallon and obviously that's why. I was just highlighting the lift count. Otherwise if they were 64 or 96 gallon cans it will never exceed 900 cans per load! Thank you for the compliment. I am glad that you enjoyed the video
@@trashtrekkertv your welcome. Yes that explains why you can get it all in one load picking up 32 gallon carts. Smaller carts make a world of difference lol
