I've only ever ran the 'station in tower position, never flat. And for as humid as Louisiana is, and dusty as my house is, the rare cleaning has been easy. I stumbled on this vid on the off chance it goes out anytime soon, and the 400c I see are almost pricing me out. Almost. That aside, what rail grease would you recommend? If I have to do a laser swap, might as well lube it when the time comes.
With no video it's usually a bad fuse, bad BA driver chip or the 1506 8 array resistors 47k. You can easily find replacements for those parts along with a cap kit on supplier sites and Ali Express. If it was dropped or intentionally damaged then it's only good as a parts board. I have a Modchip in mine with the Retro Gem mod along with the RePS2. And it still works just fine. Louis Rossman has a video of him repairing this fault.
Have you tried changing the angle of the lens with the white gear above the disc drive? Sometimes you can get a lot more life out of certain discs whenther its the cd, dvd, or dvdr or wtv its called..
No, that is, the tilt has nothing to do with the laser failure. Those are set all the same at the factory dvd laser diode failure is common. Sony was sued for it. I used to send them in all the time for free back in the day
@axcc I know it doesn't fix the lens but it does give more life out of it if the laser is on its way out, especially if you have no replacement atm. I've only needed to adjust the potentiometer on the slims when it's about to die to make it last a few months longer. I've probably done it over 50 times and it usually works. The 5000x sometimes takes 2 minutes after attempting to read the disc for it to actually load too.
On my ps2 I notice it has a hard time reading blue disc and some Original Playstation 1 games when it sit flat but it reads it better when I have it stands up but it read DVD like a champ I'm not sure if the laser is going bad if feels like I have to keep my Playstation 2 Standup if I want to play Compact Disc but DVD is fine And I also notice it read DVD faster than Compact Disc
I found a 30001 at a goodwill for $20, i bought it. It'll read CDs but not DVDs. Instead of replacing the laser with a "new" laser i went with the Free McBoot card, got a network adapter and upgraded it for SATA drives. Put a 2TB SSD in it and loaded my games onto it. Bought a Brook wingman PS2 converter and use a PS5 controller on it. Been playing it a lot.
I would replace the laser anyway. Then you can play with the disc drive as well. Khs-400c is the way to go. Those are very reliable models for the disc drive.
@@axcc I was going to do it initially, but loading the games from a HDD/SSD is far more convenient, and faster. The CD side of the laser still works, so if I decide to play PS1 games, I can just toss in a disc in and play, but for PS2 games, I think I'd rather use the HDD/SSD.
I would still fix it right anyway. Hds do get corrupt, and if I have the disc, I use the drive. The laser is a better option as it loads into the memory thru the mechacon
@@axcc why? There's no point. It doesn't keep the system from working. SSDs only get corrupted if you're constantly writing to them, or they have a hardware failure. It takes writing hundreds of terabytes of data to an SSD before it gets to that point. While in the PS2 it only reads from the drive, and reading from an SSD doesn't harm them, so there's very very little chance of corruption.
@@axcc the MechaCon main function is to control the drive mechanism & security and implements game disc security, Magic Gate and KELF file decryption. So since I'm not using a disc drive, it's basically useless. It doesn't provide any additional functions.
Was it always like that when you got it or did it just happen. If you got nit like that. Try changing the output setting with the screen black. Easy guide on Google. Or just change the cable to a ybprbr
The PS2 50001 is my main game console in four years ago I am finding a PS2 Fat in Ebay and I almost got a PS2 30001 R from a bid but I ended up get a 50001 because that's a console I can get right away which it's more reliable than my PS2 75001 slim I had before and I was lucky to get a free copy of the GTA 3 and maybe I can buy a another PS2 fat with a i link port
I think the launch model 10 holes were the best built besides the 39001 models. The only thing they didn't get right was the laser with the disc read errors
