There are stories that have stuck with me since I turned over the last page. They were multi-layered; filled with real and inspiring characters, and imaginative worlds. In a treasured few I knew I had tasted something deeper that could not be put fully into words. I want to write those kinds of stories.
My name is Micah Cooley. I'm a Christian author who was homeschooled through high school, on a quest to achieve authentic storymaking. Everything I write is to reflect the beauty and depth and glory of my Savior Jesus Christ.
The initial goal of this channel is to get a new Fiction Book written, edited, and published; and I would love for you to come along on the ride! I wrote my first fantasy story right after graduating high school. (Check it out in the link below!)
There is something beautiful about listening to poetry being read out loud ☺️ Loved your vision of “nesting”….it made me think of the time our grandkids ran and jumped in the big nest of leaves that had fallen under out big maple tree…🍁🍂
I've heard it said that no one enjoys the poem as much as the one who wrote it. Maybe it's true, but yes, definitely keep writing if you have the desire to! That's the important part
I’m so glad I tagged you. I think you are meant to read poetry. Great choice! Also, I loved hearing the line from your Grandpa and your thoughts on it.
Thank you!! It really took me by surprise too, so I wanted to look into it. Basically what I learned was that the Christians who believe in evolution just accept that science has already proven it. Like, they don't question that part at all. So they in turn try to show how it can fit in with the Bible. They do bring out some interesting ideas and questions. But when I looked into the scientific side I found that it was anything but proven. Quite the opposite, in fact. The evidence and arguments on the creationist side still seem the most logical and scientifically supported to me. And there is still not a great answer to how there could be death before the fall of Adam. Needless to say, I loved digging into the topic. 😁
This is an awesome tag! Your answers were so good! One of my favorite Narnia books is also The Last Battle, I just love the finished feeling, the happy ending that they ran the race! And I think my favorite character is Lucy. She is inspiring to me. Great video Micah, your videos are always anticipated ❤
Thank you for this, Micah. I realized, as you answered the tags, that I need and want to read some more of C. S. Lewis & reread the few that I already have read!
Great video! I love the narnia movies (all three of them) and also love the books. I don't think that you have to choose between the two, and like you pointed out, there are story plots in the movies that were very well done.
Great video, Micah! I love your answers! So happy you’re buddy reading with Steve this month! Thankful for your friendship & for the pal you’ve become to Steve!! ❤
I have a degree in Evolutionary Anthropology and the arguments for evolution just became less and less convincing the farther I got into the degree, but I stuck with it purely hoping to see the best arguments for evolution possible so I could understand the non-Christian worldview better. Obviously, it didn’t happen and I think if you’re looking for someone to articulate the failings of evolution in a clear and concise but also learned way I’d recommend any videos or books by David Berlinski. He’s not a believer of any kind but he gives great criticisms of evolution that are definitely worth checking out. Finally, I tend to give someone like Lewis the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his views of creation because at the time of his writing Evolutionary theory was still in its infancy and has some early positive results that surely swayed many an honest man. The actual data hadn’t fully caught up to the theory at the time and I believe had he been alive now his views would differ on the subject. My sincerest apologies, this is probably way too long for a RU-vid comment, alas being concise has never been a skill of mine and I dearly hope it hasn’t been too much of a bother. I really enjoyed the video and as a new subscriber I can’t wait to see more. Keep up the great work!
No, thank you for the great comment!! It's really cool to hear your journey on the matter. I agree 100% about giving Lewis the benefit of the doubt. It was a very different day, and he was an atheist for a lot of his younger years. Again, great thoughts! Thanks so much for coming aboard!! I'm glad to have you!
So glad you did this tag!!! Loved your answers to all the questions!! I believe in the literal 6 day creation also! I had not realized he believed in evolution either.
this is such a cool tag! I also started with audiobooks. Its an unpopular opinion but I think the movies are better, at least in Prince Caspian. It went deeper in character arcs and conversations about faith
I absolutely adore C.S. Lewis! Mere Christianity was a huge help for me as I was exploring more of the faith I claimed to have. I can't wait to meet him one day and talk with him about things over a cup of coffee. :)
Well said, He was raised right to have those virtues ingrained automatically when tested. And yes, we can all learn from others bravery and courage ❤ Would love to read this for NF November!! Gary Latrelle's story is good as well.
I remeber reading Out of the Silent Planet in highschool (homeschooling was my experience as well) I was very intrigued and fascinated. Caused me to think quite a lot. It's been 12 years and I haven't completed the trilogy! Thanks for the reminder 👍
Welcome to BookTube officially. Not sure if you’re aware of it, but there is an “event” type thing around here called “Poetry Thursday”. In which, as the title suggests, we talk poetry on Thursday. I don’t do it every week, but occasionally I’ll throw up a poem. There’s other people who are far more consistent about it. Might be something you enjoy participating in. 🤷🏼♂️ You mentioned how when you read, you look for what you can glean from the writing. That’s something that I have thought about. One of these days I’ll do a video about some common vocabulary, and “literature” will be on that list. I think you’ll find my personal definition of that word very similar what you’re talking about there. Looking forward to seeing more from you. More good Christian BookTubers will never be a bad thing. -T
I didn't know about it, so thanks for telling me! That video sounds really intriguing. I would be interested to see it for sure. I'm happy to be a part of booktube now! Thanks for the warm welcome
So inspiring. “Courage is not simply one of the virtues but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means at the point of highest reality." ~C S Lewis~
This book sounds so intriguing to me! Which is saying a lot because I rarely find non-fiction interesting enough to even consider. Congrats on adding to my tbr 🎉
What are your plans for your writing? I read a little of your first book and liked what i read. Do you plan to write more in the series or make a v2 of the first book now that you're a more mature writer? Scrap that series or can that 1 book be read on its own for a complete story?
I'm currently working on a brand new series. My first book definitely works as a standalone, even though it says trilogy. It has a satisfying wrap-up. Someday I may return to it. I haven't written it off, but am into a separate project right now. Thanks for the inquiry!
That poem touched my heart! At age 75 with 9 grands & 4 great grands; I realize and understand more deeply why I enjoy being around those little ones & once again seeing the wonders of God’s creation through their eyes ❤ Thank you, Micah (one of my grandsons is named Micah 😉)
Wishing you much success on your channel!! Great job so far. You might enjoy checking out Chantel Reads all day, she just put out a video on "clean, no or limited spice" fantasy reads. Also a deeper thinking channel is In Search of Wonder. She recently had a video on story making. Not sure exact title, but sounds like you'd be interested. Your ideas seem very creative and thought provoking❤. And it's OK to read slow!! My grandson is interested in writing fantasy so I may share with him!!
Thanks for the recommendation! I love watching In Search of Wonder, and will have to check out Chantel. I appreciate the comment and hope to be able to help inspire your grandson!
I was on my favorite Christian book tuber’s channel ( Katie-paperbacks & ponytails ) & you just came up through her recommendation. Welcome! I, too like to deep dive, ponder, read Christian fiction that really moves me or causes me to grow. I look forward to your unique, authentic style 😊
