So much to ruminate about after watching this! I think poetry is a great way to advance a theme, develop a location, or even to reveal past history for your fictional world. It can also add a great level of mystery or myth, deepening your world's realness.
Great points! I definitely think poetry can contribute in a meaningful way to a fictional story. I think it adds a layer of depth to the story as long as the poetry is not to extensive at one time. I have just started reading C. S. Lewis' The Space Trilogy. I'm really enjoying it and the descriptions he uses are very evocative.
I am currently reading The Galway Chronicles by Brock and Bodie Thoene. I really like how they tell a good story by bringing the characters and culture to life. They work well as a team with Brock doing the historical and cultural research and Bodie writing the story.
I like poetry in a fantasy world. Our world has a richness in poetry, why wouldn't our created worlds have it? Although I wonder about what times are appropriate to add it in to the story?
is there a way to incorporate the poetic into inscriptions on buildings, graves, manuscripts etc. make it part of the physical environment rather than oral.
