This channel contains a selection of the DNA lectures I have presented at various conferences as well as some additional lectures that address specific topics of interest to me. All the topics deal with aspects of genetic genealogy (using DNA to help trace genetic cousins and break down Brick Walls in your family tree research). I also explore the use of DNA & genealogy as a powerful combination to help adoptees reconnect with birth family, its use in mass grave situations, and the ethical issues raised by the newer applications of DNA & Genealogy combined (e.g. identification of murder victims, serial rapists, serial killers, etc).

It does help some people that have to live their lives lost without answers. Sometimes time is of importance with aging and death for some people too. Because you never know when someone will get cancer and die quickly. At the end of the day unfortunately especially nowadays it does not seem important due to separation of families and tribes and communities and the fact that we don’t really know people nor the full truth and often even in our own immediate families. That’s not to say that we should not support our tribes good or bad especially if they are dwindling. Because there are always a few very good despite the bad no matter what others say or do. So many ancestors survived and gave so much for us to be here at the end of the day.

There were lots of gleesons from Tipperary that came to Australia…. And are related. There are some in Queensland that had family in New South Wales and Victoria. Connected with dwyers, Ryan’s and lots of the names from south east Ireland I’ll look at the family tree for the gleesons

Great to hear it all explained. I really want a way to find a way to connect our Annie O'Malley of Islandeady, Mayo to the correct family. Amazing if she related to Grace . Is it worthwhile as descendants of the female O 'Malleys to take any of these other FDNA tests to explore further connections ?
@DNAandFamilyTreeResearch
@DNAandFamilyTreeResearch Год назад
Hi Andrea, it would be great to get the Y-DNA of a male O'Malley from Islandeady. They may be related to Charles of Cloonane, whose line is supposed to have died out in 1918. So if you can find a brother or male relative who is willing to ado the test, please do! And for yourself, you could do the autosomal DNA test (i.e. test at Ancestry, transfer a copy of your results to FTDNA, and join the O'Malley DNA Project). This is particularly useful for exploring how you might be related to other neighbouring O'Malley families, and you might even find an O'Malley male who would be a suitable target for testing (and who could act as your proxy).

Hi Rob, the man who brought African DNA to Iceland was Hans Jonathan and Prof Gisli Palsson has written a book about his story and there are several videos on RU-vid discussing the story ... - www.amazon.co.uk/Man-Who-Stole-Himself-Jonathan/dp/022631328X - ru-vid.comEHA5lAiX8ZQ?feature=share - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Jonatan - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cGSwBm7IxTI.html (presentation at Genetic Genealogy Ireland 2017, but sadly the audio is quite poor)

This talks a lot about the O’Malley male forebearers, and I get why-surnames and such, but I would love to know if there are any connections to grace O’Malley or her mother or grandmother through mitochondrial dna, I would really love to know if that is possible.

hi. I can see it's been a while, hopefully you can still help :). I have a pre recorded audio, plays in QT. I want to add ppt slides at preset points, how do I use QT to do this? I used to use imovie but the swirling yellow ball has finally killed me off,
@DNAandFamilyTreeResearch
@DNAandFamilyTreeResearch Год назад
Hi Brian, simply make a screen recording of the slides whilst you have the audio on. Change the slides in time with the audio. When you have the finished video, detach the video's audio and insert the pre-recorded audio in its place. Make sure that you have lined it up correctly. I use iMovie for this bit.
