So I have access to 2"x1.5mm and 1.5 diameter stainless tube at mt work and the ability to bend and weld it as well. Will this material work for a phatcat frame as well? Thank you
@@pashkracken4054 I'd imagine so. I've never put hands on material like you have but I know stainless is stronger than the galvanized mild steel shown here.
@@FullFaceAndy Thank you for the response, I work at a stainless steel, cable and railing shop so lots of scrap to buy from the boss cheap ;) I'll talk to the design shop, and can then cut it all on the laser after they make the program.
Thanks so much, just did this job, and your video helped a lot. What didn’t help is AutoZone giving me the wrong inner race and bearing, in the right box. Didn’t figure it out until it wouldn’t go on the spindle, so I had to pound the race out, clean it all again, and put the correct parts in.
This series has been awesome to watch as I’m thinking about doing my own frame build. How does the 1” steel pipe you used compare to the NRS aluminum frame in terms of strength and weight? .25” wall right?
Thanks! In one of my other videos (rmr phatcat frame build) I touch on the differences I see. All depends on design but actually comparable. I think there's a limit though. Small stern frame, steel is great. Big beefy multi day frame aluminum seems better. In an upcoming video I'll show specific differences as I have recently switched to an aluminum nrs frame to try it out. I weighed this frame and will weigh my new one to make direct comparison.
If you can make it work with a harbor freight grinder too...that's extra credit!!! (I always omit the handle and guard on my grinder though, safety equipment or no, but prefer to wear one of those 3m respirator face masks, and gloves if it's gonna be long grinds/cuts, but the harbor freight grinder will vibrate you to death either way) I also saw one of those "classic" chevy truck trailers at the gas pump today. If you added this kind of tubing/organization tray options/tie-downs, to that kind of gnar-bar frame rails, axle, and tires...that would be the ultimate in low budget/high strength/versatile platforms. Plenty of extra room and strength for batteries and a winch on the tongue, if you're looking for that too.
God yesss!!!! This rack looks way better than anything you can buy...I want a trailer rehab so bad. (see my other comment) also yes...just be good with a grinder, it makes dreams come true. I'm pretty addicted to the aluminum topper shells; way more modifiable and WAY lighter than any fiberglass lid.
Just wanted to say this is a well-made video, I appreciate your care in taking time to explain all the things. I am having trouble finding the adjustable camber bushing for an E-350, they seem to only go up to E-250 on eBay... Maybe it'll still fit?
Thanks! I'm pretty sure the bushing I used was moog-k80109. And it looks like this part number fits a ton of models and years from ford. Hope that helps
Wow...amazing...speechless 😁.... I been looking to build a roof rack myself with strut but I been skeptical about the weight....It never occurred to me EMT can hold almost 200 lbs wich is competitive with factory roof rack for $800. Thanks for the idea...I'm going to try it. 😁..what do you think if I use rigged 1" conduit?... would it be stronger or just heavy on the truck?...thanks again.
The 1 inch emt used here is great for its weight and strength. If you need stronger rack i'd suggest going with steel tube, i've built two racks using 16 gauge rectangular and square tubing. I'll get those videos up too sometime.
Have you had any issues with vibration at 65mph and above? I have a 2009 E250 and cant figure it out. Have 4 new shocks, ball joints are fine. U joints are fine . 4 new tires. Had both front rotors replaced.
Just a note... You have to torque the nut on the spindle on these models to 29 ft lbs...then back the nut off 2 full turns, then re torque the nut between 17 to 24 ft lbs...and then back off the nut 175 degrees then torque to a final setting between 2 to 4 ft lbs....this is the proper way to preload the bearing...if you do not do it in this sequence, you can have bearing failure...thanks for your video
