For information for anyone who is waiting for surgery. In my case I had to wait 8 months. I found a product called Prosthrive. You take it once a day. It reduced bathroom visits for me from seven times a night down to two. It is a supplement that reduces the size of your prostate.

I’m at day nine after TURP surgery. I spent three days in the hospital. My doctor would not send me home until I could urinate freely without a catheter. I went through forty bags of saline. At home for the first two days I was up every 10 to 15 minutes to urinate about a thimble full. At 3 am finally I started urinating freely on day three. At day nine I still have to urinate about once per hour. Usually have blood clots coming out first thing in the morning.

It wasn't the doctor, my body created too much scar tissue. It happens to other people who never had prostate surgery. My prostate is still fine and I've had the scar tissue removed. Things are working well. Best wishes.

@@etudigger3340 I guess what concerned me was he said between five and 10% of people get this and he had to do consulting with other doctors to figure out how to deal with it. Question it makes me question as to whether or not he was properly trained.

Got my Turp done on a Monday morning, it was an out-patient procedure. Home by the afternoon with a catheter. My Turp procedure was a Plasma Button Turp procedure, this type is supposed to cause less bleeding and hopefully less clots. Anyway, had catheter removed on Friday of that week. There were some clots during the week but not enough to cause a blockage. I'm now peeing and having a little bright red blood at the start ( I think this is a left over by-product from the catheter causing irritation of the urethra). Over all, after 6 days I feel pretty good, no real pain at all and I'm going for long walks. Really all I want from this procedure is to be able to get a decent nights sleep again. If I get that back, then it's worth it.

@garygrow8373 Месяц назад
Don't even think about Rezum. It is an extraordinary painful procedure that is temporary. You will need another procedure in 2-3 years. Mine lasted a very short time. I had a Holep 2 weeks ago. The difference in recovery is night and day. Foley for Rezum 5 days. Holep is 12 hr. Holep is now the gold standard for BPH.

Did you have pain sourness or tenderness of the prostate? Having similar issues after thulium bph prostate laser surgery but I also have pain, tenderness, and soreness of the prostate mainly when I am sitting directly on the prostate. My appointment with my Urologist was skeptical when I told him that I was having pain on the prostate while sitting 4 months after surgery. He then proceeded to do a physical exam, he probed with his fingers in different areas while asking if I felt any pain to which I answered no. He did a hernia test, turn my head and cough, found no hernia, then probed the prostate with his finger more than once and with every probe I felt pain and soreness. He initially explained to me that the prostate was located further up the rectum and what I said about my prostate hurting while I would sit didn’t make sense to him. After him probing the prostate and I told him that I felt pain, he looked puzzled. He has put me on ibuprofen’s, muscle relaxers and advised me to start back taking my tamsulosin again and make a follow up appointment in two weeks. Symptoms are worse now than before surgery

I am coming up on 61 years old next month October 2024. This would be my second laser surgery, the first was green light laser surgery about 7 years ago, no issues with that surgery that was done by a different urologist, who had since moved from my area.

Hi Doug, I just had TURP 17 days ago. My story is bit more involved because following open heart surgery sixteen months ago it left me with an inability to urinate more than say 5ml every 20 minutes. No one will believe me that prior to my heart surgery, yes, I didn't exactly urinate every time with a strong stream but I was 'getting by'. But finally, they said I needed TURP since the other procedures like Urolift and the Rezum Vapor steam procedure were not offered to me. Currently, I do urinate, but with some difficulty and some minor discomfort, but after wearing a Foley Cath for sixteen months I'll take anything.....I cannot see myself ever doing Self-catherization and each time they put a 16fr or 18fr cath into me I would scream and when they would deflate the cath and take it out I'd scream one loud yelp but mercifully that is brief. I am sincerely thinking of your situation and I currently as I said only urinate now, maybe 100 to 200ml at a time (and the urine is bloody like red wine but I'm hoping that will clear up over time) ~ I hope I do not develop Bladder Neck Contracture! God bless you -

I know your pain, I’ve urethroplasty over 12 times. Because dilation doesn’t work, I’ve even had cold knife with mitomycen injections. I’ve even woke up when I couldn’t go at all. Did the self cath, didn’t make a difference, now I get scoped every six months.

Hi Doug, Just tell me one thing: How much did you gave him everytime; Because the problem with neck is known with some people and Urologist can fix it from the very first time. With simple words, urologist makes a "plastic" surgery at the point removing tissue from the very first time!! At last, that was what my urologist said to me.. In this case, i see a big failure. Change doctor!! Best regards,

they put Stints in vanes and arteries to hold them open.. Urine is sterile until it is exposed to air.. Blood is sterile until exposed.. So why don't they just place a stint at the bladder neck to keep it from closing down..?

Hi doug from brisbane Australia I am 3 months post op a green light laser prostatectomy to remove excess prostate tissue due to my BPH symptoms of retention and flow restricted I am having abdominal.pain cramping and bloating all the symptoms you describe due to the bladder neck contracture scar tissue My question is how long did it take for you after first procedure your TURP for these symptoms to start How are your bowel movements i have had alot of constipation and diarrohea and straining and feel high fibre after my PVP didnt work well for.me.and are trialling a more low fibre diet and trying to get off laxatives long term and have a motion naturally No nice way to say it but when having a number 2 i just want to do it with ease and see a sausage / stool.at the bottom Please give me some feedback And you said they injected steroids when doing scar tissue repair i have seen some data saying chemotherapy drugs for injection may give a better result and long term.less failure rate My flow is still strong and retention not an issue am.voiding and ED not an issue Is dry though i knew that was pretty much a give in as a side effect of prostate procedure There is also alot of data about scar tissue from.all abdominal surgeries which in my opinion isnt discussed enough with patients

had a UROLIFT procedure in May and it did not solve the problem. So I had a TURP in early June and I am still unable to void. They are saying that my bladder has been extended for so long that it may never be able to contract for me to void? I asked is it possible to put a stint into the bladder opening and wear a bag or clip on my penis but they said that it has been tried and the stints become clogged up. So are you aware of any other options? I have looked at putting a catherter in just under the belly button but it looks to problematic to me.

Roberts, I had to have another bladder neck procedure this time with a cancer medicine that stops cell growth. I had that done in 2022 and it has worked quite well. I would do it all again, but I would check out the newer laser procedures as they seem to be less invasive than the TURP. Best wishes, Brother.

Thanks Doug. Great video. Years after your post and you’re still helping folks with the info you shared. I’m in the decision mode right now. My case mirrors yours in almost every detail. Same issues, a little older (64) and a higher PSA (8.4) negative results on random biopsy, on .08 flowmax with some relief, Dr has already mentioned turp but waiting until September for another PSA. One Question, now after some time has past, would you do it again? And again thank you for taking the time to hep so many other guys.

JM, Thanks for the kind words. I would do it again, but I think I would check out some of the newer techniques which are less destructive. Many men recommend the laser method, and I would check that out if I have any new problems. Even after having bladder neck contracture, I still urinate better than before. Good luck.

William, thanks for your post. I did have a chemo treatment for my scar tissue in 2022 and it seems to have worked. I don't recall the name of the drug but it is designed to stop cell growth. It was an interesting experience with my recovery from that treatment. Bleeding, yellow urine that had a horrible smell, but all is well now. I told my specialist about the recovery and he said he had never heard of my experience, but I'm still doing well. Best wishes to you.

I had a TUIBN/TURP surgery on 4/12/24, for the same reason; only able to 1/2 empty bladder, going every 2 hrs. After the surgery, Dr. came in, for about 30 seconds, told me to remove foley cath in 3 days, that nurse would show me how. Did as ordered 3rd morning. Could not P at all, blood dripping out by 4pm. Called Dr. office, nurse told me go to ER, and 5 miserable hrs. later, they put ANOTHER foley in. Told to take antibiotic 7 days, take it out again. Removed it morning of 7th day, and was able to P well for about 8hrs. By the next afternoon I was totally blocked and told to go back to ER again, for my 3rd painful foley insertion. It has been a nightmare! Wish I had never done it. Taking another round of Abiotics for 7 days, and supposed to remove foley catheter for the 3rd time after 14 days. If it does not work, I do not know what I will do, my Dr. has old me nothing about this. MUCH THANKS for posting this video. I will update this comment after 05/09/2024, when I will find out if I am OK, or my healthy active lifestyle, as I knew it, is over. I admire your perseverance! I am not sure I have the mental fortitude to do the self cath every day like you have been. Hope yours turned out OK!

My doctor has almost every procedure under the sun for BPH. Now he pretty much only does hoLEP. Getting a holep you can leave the hospital with no catheter. If that hospital is fully staff. After my hoLEP procedure. I had the catheter taken out the next day. A HOLEP is called a one and done. Meaning there's no need to ever come back for a redo. It's shows a 18 year high quality of effectiveness. I know someone at my gym that had a turp. It only lasted three years for him. He's now thinking about going to my doctor for a hoLEP.
