With all due respect to this gentleman, my TURP recovery was NOTHING like he describes. Maybe I was lucky but no clots blocked my catheter, I got plenty of sleep, I left the hospital catheter free, no pain whatsoever, and felt great after a couple of days. My urine became almost completely clear of. Blood after a few days and never really contained that much blood. I do want to say that the blood will increase after about two weeks as the prostate sheds it’s scabs but this is normal. I was worried that this video might scare off a few men from having the procedure. DO IT! This seventy two year old is already peeing like a seventeen year old after only two weeks and it’s supposed to get better. I hope this helps some guys make the right decision.

I had this done 2.5 weeks ago. I was sent home same day with the catheter for 5 days. Having a catheter sucks but as long as I cleaned around the tip to avoid any sticky goop it was comfortable enough. After the catheter was out I felt pretty good. I’ve been seeing quite a bit more blood this week when I urinate but also peeing a lot more comfortably. I had sex for the first time yesterday. They warned me that I would not ejaculate. They were right. Orgasm is still there. Feels the same, but no mess. They said to wait 3-4 weeks, but hey I’m only 46 .. yeah it was a bit uncomfortable afterwards with some burning and stinging internally that went away after about 10 minutes and today… more blood. :) I’m optimistic that I’ll be good as new in another couple weeks.

I appreciate the info you shared here, thank you. I was prepared for the worst (based on all the things you went through). Fortunately, my procedure went very smooth. I'm 63 and had BPH for about 3yrs. I had biopsy and MRI so I was cleared of cancer. My urologist had me on self-catheter for awhile to help my bladder & kidneys keep from getting any worse. He suggested TURP and I agreed. I was in at 6:30am. They rolled me into surgery at 8. I woke up about 10:30-11. I was out of there by noon. I had a catheter and a drain bag. I picked up a pain prescription on way home (my wife drove me). There were 5 pills in the bottle. I took one every 4hours. I didn't sleep much that first night having to have my leg dangling off the bed to keep it low enough to drain easily. I'd get up every 1 1/2hrs to empty the drain bag. The next morning I went in for a followup. They pumped 320ml of saline into my bladder. They removed my catheter and had me try to pee out what I could. I peed out about 280ml which hurt like I was peeing barbed wire. They let me go home w/o the catheter. Peeing was uncomfortable but omg what a stream I had. Hadn't seen that in ages. After a few days, there was little to no discomfort. I did not take any pain medication after the 2nd day. I'm 2 weeks & 2 days past surgery and have clear urine, no more blood in my pee. I feel great. I'm slowly re-training my bladder to hold out longer before I go pee. I'm up to 5hrs I can hold it during the day, I usually just go at 2-4hrs. At night, I pee before I go to bed about 11, get up to pee around 2:30-3 and then pee when I get up at 7am. Sleeping so much better. I have a follow up in a few days and hope to be cleared to work out and play golf.

Thank you so much for this video and the others. I had a UroLift in April 2022. It was great for a handful of months, and then things returned to the way they were. Had my TURP 2 days ago during which some of the UroLift devices were removed. Things are proceeding as expected. Sleeping is an issue, and you were spot on with the recommendation for softeners & a laxative…can’t wait for them to work their magic! Appreciate the info on the “massage flush” and experienced exactly what you described on the empty bladder. My cath is in for another 6 days, then removed during my in office follow-up appt. Diapers & pads have been stocked, and looking fwd to when they’re not needed. Can’t wait to have this all behind me! Only one thing to add - DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! I had changed my fluid intake while dealing with BPH and minimized and regulated my fluid intake to minimize bathroom trips and accidents. Things are going much better now that I’ve changed up my fluid intake. Also, thanks so much for the discussion re erections. I had some bleeding last night and now I know why!

I had this TURP in September and the procedure went as expected but I was somewhat disappointed when after the procedure I was not able to urinate. Thank you for posting this. I just completed my first week of recovery after TURP. I do think, and a friend who also had TURP agrees, that the pain during catheterization is understated in the literature and by doctors. This is because the catheter used is far larger than the typical one so as to allow blood clots and debris to pass through. The Ibuprofen/Tylenol combo doesn't even put a dent in it; only Oxycodone offered me any relief. Without it, I would have been in agony 24/7. My friend was contemplating going to the ER during that period until his doc phoned in a more powerful script. So I would recommend anybody going through this procedure insist on a narcotic prescription to last them until the catheter comes out. After that, the OTC meds were OK for both myself and friend. That said, I immediately had dramatic relief from my BPH symptoms once the catheter came out. Still a lot of burning and some blood, but I can already tell it was successful.
@etudigger3340
@etudigger3340 2 года назад
Adam, I'm happy you are feeling better and urinating like a 21 year old again. Yes, the burning and terrible cramps during urination were very painful; I would have to hold onto the sink countertop the first week after the catheter came out because I didn't have a bullet handy to bite down on. Unfortunately for me, about 6 months after my TURP, I suffered from Bladder Neck Contracture (look it up). Scar tissue built up around the bladder sphincter muscle so I was urinating like I was before the TRUP. I will make a video about that too. I had to have more surgery to cut open the sphincter muscle to allow me to go again. Doctors will give you some advice, but if they've never had the surgery, they really don't know what it feels like. That's why I made my video. Best wishes to you and your friend.

We have spoken in the past in your comments, but just to say my hubby had his Abipolar turp. 6 weeks ago. He is really doing well. He has a urine flow once again like when he was a young man. He has had a follow up appointment in two weeks just to check no retention. Before his operation he was having to use a catheter twice a day in order to empty his bladder , and was getting regular infections. He looks so well and says he feels great, the fear he had in thinking about having this operation, wasn’t anything like he felt it may have been. He had his operation his choice even by epidural. 35g of tissue was removed. A follow up in two weeks to check retention levels are in order and then to see consultant again just after Xmas. So fingers x. All meds have also been stopped psa blood tests will still be required to keep a check on cancer-side of things. But they feel this was also removed, psa will be only indication. So anyone awaiting this operation please try and not worry. I am sure you will benefit from having it done. A few weeks discomfort is worth. Long term benefits. Thank you for helping my hubby on his journey. We are in Uk. You really helped him a lot with your videos. Take great care and hope your still doing well yourself.

Guys, get a second opinion if your urologist suggests any procedure. I am 64 and had a Urolift procedure (implants) done in April 2022 but that didn't go well. Frequent urination and pelvic discomfort wouldn't go away even after 2 months of the procedure. Urologist then did a procedure reversal where the implants were removed, followed by a TURP. It's been over 5 weeks and I'm still heeling. Took a second opinion and had a CT scan done. No abnormalities. The second Urologist's opinion is that recovery time for TURP is 3 to 4 months.

The operation was done in Australia under the public health system, here any operation of any kind regarding the catheter insert it remove it, manual lavage of the bladder can only be done in the hospital and only by some doctors or specialist nurses within the ward urology. In fact, before they removed the catheter it was necessary to manually wash the bladder due to blood clots, the procedure was done with the large syringe but with a different technique from the one described in your case. Only when they were sure it was one hundred percent clean did they discharge me. If not, they would have kept me in the hospital for a few days. In conclusion there is nothing to be afraid of undergoing the Turp. Regards Cristiano

Thank you for your excellent review. I used a lot of your suggestions to compile a list of tips. I don't know what I will do with it but the handouts at my clinic were a bit spotty. They didn't say much about prep for the TURP. I will try to post it here but the the handout in in PDF format made for one page. Tips and Tricks for TURP Recovery Patient’s Viewpoint Useful Things to have on hand: Distilled water, Alcohol Wipes, Alcohol, Protective underwear, Electrolytes, Rubber gloves, a small rubber funnel, fiber and/or stool softener, laxative. The Urine Bags/drains: Both the large bag and small one have convenient drains on the bottom. You do not have to remove the bag to drain it like I tried. What a mess! The problem with the large bag is the valve is tricky to open. Press hard to open it; Use two fingers on the sides of the valve. Don’t cover the small air hole in the center. If you cover that hole with a finger, it will not open. To close, just pull out. The smaller urine bag is simple: twist to open and close. Fluids: You need a lot! But a worse case is you flush out your electrolytes. Electrolytes also might help with cramps which I had. I bought Gaterlyte (WalMart or Publix) and some baby electrolyte. Your goal is to drink enough to get good flow of a pink fluid. If it is too red, you are probably too active or need to increase fluids. After drinking fluids, if you get no flow, you could have a tube blockage. Tube blockage: I had one. Not too hard to clear if you have the turkey baster kit (Piston Syringe). There are videos on RU-vid that show how to free them. Basically you pump distilled water in and out of the bladder. Go easy. Pump fluid, not air! If they don’t give you the kit after surgery, ask for it! It could save you trying to get professional help in the middle of the night. Search on Foley catheter on Google or RU-vid for info. Funnel: I used it to flush out the urine bags after use to prevent remaining blood clotting when stored. Just seem like a good idea. Sitting: It hurts! It also seemed to cause urine flow to be redder. My solution was to sit on a rolled up throw blanket formed into a U shape, to relieve pressure on the prostate area. Worked great! Protective Underwear: Gross! I really hated this. But you will leak some blood. Unless you want to ruin some underwear with blood stains, get some! Mine were women’s. So I wore panties for 4 days! Contamination: Clean everything with alcohol. Use rubber gloves. Wipe down any reused gloves with alcohol wipes. Anything that directly mates with your body has to be sterile. Constipation: This could be a problem. Requires prevention management. You don’t want to strain at the stool. Even drinking all that water doesn’t seem to prevent it. I started with Fiber One and a stool softener. Didn’t work well. Will probably use Miralax and/or ex-lax before it’s over. Miralax could be best.

Bottom line regarding the clotting +++, the urologists send patients home too early. Not typical in Europe to send patients home with a 3-way foley and to self flush and then remove this later at home. The obsession in US healthcare with minimal stays in hospital is disturbing when I hear what you went thru Doug (e.g. outpatient REZUM with local anaesthetic!?). Thank you for putting this experience into the public domain for those of us facing into this type of surgery.

Hi Doug Thank you for sharing… I’m in my first week of recovery and some things are similar but recovery and clotting really varies from person to person. I also Experienced Bladder cramps the first day of free peeing post Catheter removal…. Painful that first day and took some Advil, but better the next day… I was not told this was a possibility but it can happen.. maybe since my Prostate was quite large and pushing up in my bladder I am surprised that you were tasked with Removing the Catheter and Flush yourself and needing to refer to RU-vid.. that’s asking a lot… May not be the case with all the time.. but I am from Canada and the Catheter is removed in the hospital and you need to pee before being released…In my case, I left with my catheter and had a follow up at my local clinic to be removed 2 days later. All the best and you are right…. I’m glad I made the decision to proceed with this…. already seeing better retention and less urge to urinate

I’ve had this procedure (TURP) done two weeks ago here in the UK (NHS), the surgery was painless, catheter was removed on 2nd day there is a little discomfort for the first week bit of bleeding, bladder discomfort and burning/stinging feeling in the ‘spout’ nothing to worry about, and if one requires pain/discomfort relief they give you pain killers. The doctors and nurses give pain relief on the first day as routine together with blood thinning injections to prevent blood clots (I declined these after my catheter was removed as any further thinning of the blood would make the bleeding worse!) was discharged on 3rd day and now recovering. Urine flow has increased gradually and light presence of blood still visible...overall not a horror story at all... don’t suffer with your prostate issue - get it done!

Anyway urine had started running clear he still has his catheter in due to swelling, however sadly for some reason y Easter day blood like cranberry juice started to appear again in the urine. This may be due to,constipation and pushing a little to hard, advice here take a laxative , this should help avoid this problem. Thanks for sharing your experience and your advice is much appreciated. I am 71 and for years I have dealt with BPH and constant concern that I have cancer. I just had my second biopsy in the past 12 years, and all 12 cores were benign, but my prostate is 135 cc in volume. I had a Urolift 5 years ago with disappointing results. I am finally getting the turp this August. I can no longer tolerate being preoccupied with this daily issue. From your experience, It sounds like 4 post-op days of hell before it begins to get better.... sheesh. And your next video is really upsetting (BNC, catheter insertions...) I sincerely hope it gets better for you and frankly I fear the future but I thank you for providing real context about this operation. I wonder how large was your prostate? my urologist says mine is very large, and will look to reduce by half the volume. I hope that means I will have less chance of the BNC bladder problems you are now dealing with. How are you?
@etudigger3340
@etudigger3340 2 года назад
Dicey. Sorry to hear you have been struggling with BPH for so long. My prostate was only slightly enlarged with no lesions felt during a rectal digital exam, so my surgeon did not order a biopsy. Upon looking at the prostate with the scope, he said the prostate was enlarged, but he didn't see anything which looked like cancer, so he wasn't too concerned. Remember, every surgery and surgeon is different so don't count on my story to be the same as yours. Follow your surgeons instructions. As far as the Bladder Neck Contracture, I'm doing better after the second procedure. I had my 3-month follow-up and was told to stop using the catheters to see what happens. Don't let the chances of BNC be a determining factor in your decision to have the TURP procedure. If you do have to cath like I did, it's not that bad. Slightly uncomfortable, but there are worse options if the cath doesn't work. Finally, I don't regret my decision to have the TURP, which worked and still works. The BNC was a different issue due to my overactive scar tissue response. I 'm praying for a great outcome for you in your future. Best wishes.

Hi Doug, I was warned that 1 in 20 who have the Turps will require the op again and yes I was the lucky one. The first one lasted 6 years and I am coming to the end of the recover period of the second op right now. My first Turp went well and I was playing golf in four days after the op with no pain. My second Turp was totally different, quite painful, but playing golf in 3 weeks. The difference between the ops is that the first one was by laser and the second by knife. Its silly to be put off the op, due to the discomfort, pain, blood clots. It normally lasts two weeks and a complete recovery within 4 weeks. Good read the British way is different but with the same outcome.

Wish I had seen this prior to my Turp 2 days ago. I got caught off guard with the nightime erection the first night while on the catheter. It was the only significant pain I've had because of the proceedure and I was worried the catheter might pull out or something. I went in for surgery Tuesday morning, rolled into surgery at 9am. Woke up a little after 11am feeling pretty good and was discharged from the hospital by 1pm. I was surprised by this as I remained on Aspirin for my heart stents and bleeding was something the Doctor warned might keep me in the hospital a couple days. I had the catheter removed today, 48 hours after my surgery. Urine flow was slow, bloody and fairly painful at doctors office, but it worked. I'm home now, and found myself making a mess of the bathroom initially due to high pressure/volume flow that caught me off guard since I've been a dribble guy for years. The clots initially resulted in uncontrollable spray but they cleared up for the most part after the first event, and I'm sitting now when I go just till things settle down. I'm feeling great, flowing well, some burning/stinging and some blood in the urine but nothing like I had anticipated. Right now the urge is to go often, but hopefully that will settle down soon. So far, this looks like it will work really well for me. I haven't needed any pain medication, did need a laxitive and stool softners to get things going at that end, and both nights with the Catheter I suffered the nightime erections which woke me up. I can live with that being as how I was concerned about things not working in that area. The things the doctors don't have you prepped for though are where people like you sharing come in to play. Thanks

Jeff, I'm glad your procedure and recovery went well. Yes, burning and stinging during urination is common after the catheter has been removed; I experience both for about a week. Cramps and frequently going to the bathroom are common after removing the catheter. I guess the body is trying to heal itself. I wish you all the best in your future. Doug

Rainer, thanks for the kind words about my video. I understand your concern about still having blood in your urine. I went through the same thing for about two weeks. I would not see any blood for a while then I would have another blood clot or more blood come out, either during urination or straining during a bowel movement. If you are not taking a stool softener, that may be helpful, but that is your decision. Remember, TURP is very invasive surgery so it will take time to heal. You are doing a great job of monitoring your progress. If you have any other concerns, please contact your doctor's office for advice. Blessings to you.

I believe they used about 12- 15 bags of flushing fluids. Luckily, I didn't have any blood clot issues. I wasn't in pain but had discomfort. They discharged me the following afternoon with the catheter removed and was able to pee. Once I got home no sooner than 3 hrs. I had to go back to the ER. When I tried to pee at home, I had this excruciating pain and nothing came out initially. But after about a minute, I felt something pass through, saw urine stream with tissue particles a size of rice. I called the urologists about it and he said just go to ER to make sure there are no more clots and I am able to pee. On the 2nd day I was in pain, I had to use a suppository and stool softer and oxicodone. On the third day, I more sore, and more in pain and and had a fever. But today, I'm about 70% pain free and able to pee like a horse but some blood and burning sensation. 🔥 hopefully the worst is over.

When you are post op, and they are flushing out your bladder with those gallon bags of saline, make sure that they don't run dry or you will develop clots in your bladder! This is important! Make sure the bags are always changed as soon as one is empty (they work on a Y set so two are connected at all times).

VR, yes I considered several other procedures, but some of the doctors confessed Rezum is not perfect either, and then they would do the TURP if the patient had continuing issues. I decided to go straight to the old tried and true method. TURP is not perfect either, but according to my doctor, the prostate looks good.

My doctor left the catheter in for a week before removing it does not irrigate my bladder with 20 bags and I got no blood clots but having a catheter that longis a real pain.. having to change the catheter that they used to sleep in Lynn Cathy they use moving around so I got intermittent severe bladder spasms lasting 15-45 seconds that brought me to my knees,usually caused by kinking in the foley…

Doug, your helpful video was a Godsend. At 70, and a prostate 2.5 times normal and BPH of 7.1, I have to do something. As you say, everyone is different. As well as not draining my bladder, when I did have to pee, I had an immediacy problem (we're talking within 15 seconds) and I've had 2 biopsies and I do have a tiny (smallest possible) cancer cells somewhere on my prostate. I told my doctor that I'd like to have the TURP but he is reluctant with the small cancer he found afraid that the cutting may exacerbate the spread?? I even wonder about removing it altogether. ??

I wondered if we still live in dark ages when I watch this terrifying video blog. It is so barbaric that any sein person must question the state of medicine in this area. For the last 10 years there was no real progress in treatment of oversized prostates perhaps because it is a problem of elderly and basically people on the margin of active society and depending on insurance companies to cover the costs of operations and we all know that insurance companies don't like to spend money living these elderly people in pain and confusion. Shame on the medical research and industry as there is really no research going on in this problem because there is no money at the end of the road. Old people can't pay!

I am 75 and had a Turp procedure 7 years ago. Everything was good for a couple of years, then some scaling occurred causing blockage and a month ago one night I could not pee. Went to the Emergency room to be catheterized. After this I watched a ton of Utubes and my Urologist started me on Rapaflo. I had a problem with leakage and decided to go with a Green light Vapirization procedure. This was suppose to be outpatient, but they wound up sending me to the main surgical hospital floor. They get you their at 5:30 and surgery at 7:30 am. I was discharged at 10 am and will have my catheter removed in 3 days. Everyone should get a leg and regular Foley catheter. No use of lots of saline. Urine was bloody. No pain. They told me to limit my walking until the catheter is removed. I have no idea if leakage will continue to be a problem ongoing.

I GUESS every individual will have a different experience. His description is difficult to listen to (I can't imaging going through it) I am in the middle of a TURP recovery. Operation on Wednesday, this is Saturday night. MY experience is totally different and by a LARGE factor. The pre-op went about as one would expect, nurses fidgeting around getting me ready, visit from the anesthesiologist to make sure I was not a Michael Jackson case, and of course the doctor who went over the various play calls (I think there was a Omaha 1 in there) although I do not remember executing any of them. The primary function of his visit is to reassure you that all is going to work out alright and that he has done this many time before. My surgeon is young fellow, 38 or so and he and I share a couple of data points in life. He and I both serves in the Army, he in the Infantry as a Squad Leader in Iraq and me a bit earlier in the Vietnam Era and in Korea in the Armor. We also have crossed the same paths in our world travels, he having studying medicine at St. Louis, University in University City, MO and me, a street urchin, selling newspapers in front of the old Moll's Market at the confluence of DeBaliviere Strip and Delmar in 1953. Of course, the trail was a bit cold, I grew up there from 1946-1975 and he took his medical school training in 2014. Then it was off to the operation room with Bernard at the gurney controls. We went down hallways, into elevators, waving at all of the nurses and janitorial staff along the way. It s a VERY modern hospital (about 5 years old) but somehow we had trouble getting into the operating room, there was a series of carts in the way just adjacent to the doorway but a bit of NASCAR style power driving got us into the center of the room. You are on your back and really cannot see too much of the room, fancy five bonnet led's were hanging from the ceiling and there were giant color monitors all around the room. Attendants in their scrubs, hair nets, (I even had one) were bustling around and then the anesthesiologist appeared behind my head repeating the instructions we had went over in the pre op room. I felt the nurse fiddling with the IV in my left arm and the face mask appeared from over my head....and THAT was all she wrote. I woke up in the ICU with the nurse demanding that I INHALE deeply thru my nose and EXHALE thru my mouth as I apparently I was down a quart of oxygen and she was trying to keep we awake AND get the gases to flow. I HAD the option of going home that afternoon OR staying the night at the hospital and having been quite aware of what they had done to me I chose to stay the night, not sure of what complications would ensue, and I didn't want to be away from professional care. The surgery was over at 12 noon but the bed wasn't ready until around 4PM. It was then that the comedy of errors commenced. I wanted to stay the night to get a good nights sleep HA HA. I had been given some pain killers and was receiving IV flushes and an antibiotic by IV also so I was comfortable. 7 PM comes and we get a shift change.The RN who had started the IV's handed me off to the night nurse and I was also introduced to the Nurses Assistant as well as the Floor PA. Seem I was in good hands. At around nine I started to feel some pain and that old familiar feeling of catheter convulsions. Having had to WAIT for three week for a Operating Room Slot I was wearing a catheter from 5 Sept until Oct 12. Catheter convolutions are the involuntary and rhythmic contractions of the powerful bladder muscles in trying to expel this foreign object from the body. The doctors like to refer to the phenomena as a natural occurrence (which it is) but there ain't NOTHING natural about the pain. It starts out as an incredible urgency to pee and goes into rhythmic convolution of pain that goes all the way up the uretha. It lasts for about 45 seconds. I had been dealing with this for three weeks, the first 5 days was partially due to the catheter being installed and tied wrong to the leg by the ER nurse back on the 5th when I went in for a blocked bladder AND a 6.8mm kidney stone, causing an unnatural 'torquing" of the catheter against the uretha every time I tried to move my leg to get into or out of bed. Yep, I suffered the tri-fecta of male urinary track problems all at the same time, a bladder infection, a kidney stone, AND a greatly enlarged prostate. Anyway, I was really wanting to get to sleep so I buzzed the Nurse and asked for some pain medication. She come in with "doctor prescribed oxycontin 5-325" pill. I was quite aware of the medication as the doctor had prescribed it to me from the beginning. I take the pill (which DIDN'T look anything like the stuff I have been taking) and tried to get to sleep. AGAIN, I called the front desk. It is now around 12 midnight and I got this icy "what do you need now sir?" I need the Nurse Assistant. 45 minutes go by and this bladder is hell bent on lashing out at this catheter. I called the nurse again and this time she said (in a hushed conspiratorial voice) she had something that she could give me via the IV. It was strong she said an it MIGHT even put you to sleep (I THINK that was the point here) Anyway while she is preparing this stuff for infusion the smell is overwhelming. The medicine was administered and off she goes and I try to settle in for some sleep. The medication DID help for a little while but the pain was back with a vengeance only NOW, having become fully alert the pain was competing with a BRIGHT and flashing light, SO bright that the light was flashing off of the white walls of the room and nothing I could do would keep the light from entering my eyes. I called AGAIN for a nurse and when she came I told her about the light (you couldn't miss it, it was a large as a front marker light on an Infinity). Come to find out it was the blood pressure monitor machine and WHY it needed a flashing light to do its job was beyond me. Anyway, she got it turned off left the room...only to leave the bathroom light on and the door wide open. AGAIN, I called the desk and asked to turn out the light. She comes down and turns OFF the light and closes the door and says "while I am here I may as well do your vitals". Once she is done she enters the data into the computer and leaves the room...ONLY to leave the computer monitor on. I THOUGHT it might go out in a few minutes but it did NOT. I rang the front desk again and she came and turned it off telling me that it would have canceled out in 15 minutes. THANKS. So NOW I am trying to get settled in again, still hoping this pain will subside, when a piecing high pitched 2 second beep about every 25 seconds starts blaring into my ear. AGAIN, I rang the desk and this time it was the antibiotic pump. The noise was SO piercing that I thought it was coming from the right of the bed but in fact if was coming from the left side of the room and bouncing off the walls. But NOTHING they could do would silence that machine so I decided to turn over onto my right ear (my good ear) and smother the sound with a pillow. It worked but being unable to assume ANY position but flat on my back due to the catheter, I soon found myself with a muscle strain in my back trying to sustain such an odd position. NOW I was livid. I was in pain, I was exhausted. I was totally put into a seriously discomforting position and once again I called the desk and asked for the Nurses Assistant. When she arrived in the room both of us were totally fed up with each other. I asked her (in my MOST gentlemanly tone of voice) if she could do something for me. Can you retrieve that hospital bag over on the chair for me? She brought it to me and I asked her politely to stand behind the modesty curtain for a moment and I reached in and retrieved a prescription bottle of oxycontin 5-325, (Doctor Prescribed and IN the original prescription bottle) snapped the cap and took a pill out and popped it in my mouth and took a giant swallow of water and asked her to return the bag to the chair. I asked her to INSURE that all lights were OUT and to leave me be. She left and I PROMPTLY settled in for some well needed sleep. I took maybe 15 minutes but the "Hammer" always works. Sooo, Hell night in the hospital. I'll spare you the rest of the details. I was discharged at 10 AM with a discharge nurse giving me the scoop and skinny on what to do once I left the facility. I went home with the expectation of more pain and aggravation but other then this ever decreasing bladder spasm and only ONE oxycontin 5-325 pill, Thursday afternoon passed, Friday and now Saturday. I have had continuously reducing pain, SLIGHTLY bloody urine, NO blood clotting, and no other issues. My urine stream is a light yellow and I am TRYING to drink as much water as possible. Today I watched football in the Big Boy chair, sat out on the deck trying to get some natural vitamin D and later I took off in the pick up to go get some Chinese takeout for dinner. Life is good. Maybe I am lucky, blessed, or just the Chosen One but the initial ER treatment and the three week wait for a operating room slot was more painful to me then the actual TURP surgery and recovery. If you need this surgery rememebr, it is the Gold Standard in the medical industry and what pain there is can be greatly ameliorated with "the Hammer". Darrow...for the Prosecution

My doctor has almost every procedure under the sun for BPH. Now he pretty much only does hoLEP. Getting a holep you can leave the hospital with no catheter. If that hospital is fully staff. After my hoLEP procedure. I had the catheter taken out the next day. A HOLEP is called a one and done. Meaning there's no need to ever come back for a redo. It's shows a 18 year high quality of effectiveness. I know someone at my gym that had a turp. It only lasted three years for him. He's now thinking about going to my doctor for a hoLEP.

Green Laser TURP 4 days ago. Catheter was removed this morning. No problem with clots. I'm "semi incontinent" right now. I was under general anesthesia and the procedure itself took a little over an hour. I was at the hospital 4 hours. The worst part of the whole thing was the catheter. It's an annoyance and it's hard to sleep if you move around like I do. Overall what I've been through hasn't been too bad. Everyone is different and the way we get to our desired outcome will probably vary a little. Thanks for this video. I'm sure it will help our BPH Brethren as they take this step. I don't know how this fellow got that many saline bags post op in addition to such an enormous amount of blood clots & leakage.I spent about an additional 12hours post op at GW Hospital & only went through about 3 bags of the saline bladder flush bags unlike the 21 bags this gentleman mentions here.His experience is so traumatic & totally unlike my experience.Sure,there is blood yet continual consumption of water will gradually help clear you of the blood.Definetely don't be smoking within a week or two prior to surgery if you're a smoker,it will make a world of positive difference
