On this channel I will mainly be focusing on saltwater fishing off of the coast of Rhode Island in season, and hunting in the 5 month off season. I have been fishing since the age of 3 and specifically fishing Block Island Sound / Rhode Island shoreline since 1997 and hunting since 2007.
My past includes everything from trout fishing throughout New England, tournament bass fishing all over Connecticut, inshore as well as offshore saltwater fishing including the New England canyons, Hudson to Oceanographer, and Cape Cod bay tuna fishing. My forte is ground fishing, rooted from years of freshwater bass fishing (jig fishing).
Vessel is a year 2000 24 ft Silverhawk out of Point Judith, RI. Yanmar power, furuno electronics. I’m hoping the videos I share will be educational and informative for everyone. Enjoy!
This is a great example of teamwork guys. It takes coordination, discipline and the ability to remain calm with all the shit going on in this video. From light leader, gigantic fleet, broken rod and a rather large tuna any error would have gave this fish its freedom.
Looks like you had a bit of a current to have those Norwegian jigs drift back like that. Great haul though. Ran my rig out to Jeffries Ledge on the 4th out of Portsmouth NH. Unfortunately, we're in the one keeper a day zone. But we put a few 28 inchers' on along with haddock, so we at least got our daily catch.
windmill construction drove all the cod away, constant piledriving,i tried back in may and got skunked ,ive never skunked there for cod in spring there!
@@WoodisGood82 Thanks! Ehhh… there’s some very nice water SW corner. Check a temp chart. Definitely reachable if the weekend forecast was a little more 24’ boat friendly.
Great job boys! For all your excellent squidding tips let me share something with you...grab a "Luna Sea Cush it" and you will thank me later! Tight Lines!
@@starkc69 Thanks Stark! Good to hear you appreciate the squid tips. We are implementing a waist fighting belt next tuna trip as once fish tip the 100# mark it’s needed.
Hum, interesting. Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I'm not seeing that cause I don't want to see that. I am seeing that I'm on the edge of the 'safe' zone.
Nice job fighting that fish. Just curious but why don't you use a harness or at least a belt for the rod butt? That butt in the stomach must not feel very good.
Totally unnecessary with sub 100# fish. This isn’t the first fish over that mark though. We are going to incorporate a rod belt next trip as it is needed for larger fish.
@@RhodeIslandSportfishing Well at least a rod belt. I'm assuming the rods you use have a gimble butt. We used to use the belt for cod fishing. Now I'm feeling like a wimp😁
@@RhodeIslandSportfishing any good warranty on it? I got the St Croix Rift because they’re great on their warranty. But the Hogy Hybrid rod looks pretty solid
@@LawnJerkThey have a 1 year warranty. So I’m out of luck. There is a 50/50 warranty where a new rod is 1/2 off msrp. But this particular rods availability isn’t until late October. I told them when I called wtf kind of deal is that..!?
Went offshore yesterday. Trolled at the Gully and got 4 with the biggest being 34 inches. Released two short ones and kept that one and a 33. All within 30 minutes. Bite then shut down and all we managed to get the rest of the day were some Mahi at high flyers with the biggest being 28 inches. Also caught a dusky shark but I don’t wanna talk about that😂 Wish we could find some this big!
Great video again, Thanks! What speed are you trolling at? I've had some success this season but not as much as others. I've been to Gully & Tuna Ridge but there doesn't seem to be many boats where you are... Not the case where I was this past week. Looks like you're getting them on both purple and green, we've only hit with purple so far.... Do you usually only use a 3 rig spread?
I troll anywhere from 4.5-6.5 knots for bluefin. Generally speaking, the calmer the water the faster the speed. This trip was anywhere from 5-6 knots. I usually adjust speed trolling into a sea vs. a following sea too. Some days it matters, some days it doesn't.. My typical spread is 4 rods but only stayed with 3 on this trip as we had triple spreader bars out. If it's really slow I may put both the jigging rods out with single jets or feathers making it a 6 rod spread.
Yes, correct. (2) 27” - 47” and (1) 47” - 73” We retained (2) 27” - 47” and let the others go. Full video is on the channel, I go over this in the video.
@jeffstandish5226 Haha, ok yeah I can’t tell sarcasm from the text... We jigged that trip, I dropped one. We usually jig every trip regardless. My brothers out today already 2/2. One jig one troll
Maintenance is at the top of my list as an owner/operator. I keep up on all routine items, etc. I wouldn’t say I enjoy it, but piece of mind knowing things are 100% is definitely worth the hours I put in. I ran a small skiff/outboard when I was younger and previous offshore boat was a 24’ cc/ gas 350ci. This is MY first diesel, although my father ran a 315 yanmar in the past.
