Hi. I have turned off the main water shut off in the basement to replace a Shark Bite fitting that wont shut off anymore. I have released the water pressure all through the house and in the sink and shower of the en suite where I am working but water keeps coming out of the water supply for the toilet. It wont stop. There is no water in the toilet tank so its not coming from there. Never seen this before. When you shut off the mains and relieve the pressure in the system water should not be coming from a supply line ? Any ideas ? Thanks

Oh no! So sorry to hear that. Do you use well water or City water? It sounds like you have a lot of sulfur (or other contaminants) in your water. Have you had a plumber out for a water test? They can figure out what's in your water and how to remove it. You could probably use a carbon filter, but it's hard to know if that would work without testing your water first.

@@wendy8561 I'm not sure where you are located, but you could google "water quality testing near me," and I'm sure someone like Culligan or a local plumber will show up. Most plumbing companies should be able to perform them as well. Some will even test your water for free. Call one of the companies that show up and ask if they can test your water. I'm surprised the previous company that replaced your two water heaters didn't test the water.

My 24 year old york diamond is making this kind of banging noise heard from each floors of my home. Will this be a problem like block vents another easy diy solution? Because i already try replacing the air filter? If dirty ducts the cleaning can be diy or not? As for inspect, fees will apply when tech arrives?
@ThorntonAndGrooms
@ThorntonAndGrooms 7 месяцев назад
Great questions. I'm not sure if duct cleaning can be done yourself, but judging by the equipment the company we recommend uses, it would be very difficult to diy. I would recommend you have a professional out to take a look. I'm not sure where you live, but I'd assume it would be between $69 - $89 for a service call to locate the issue.

Sometimes outside I'd get a hint of sewer gas. Recently I can smell it from the wall in between the bathroom and kitchen. Sometimes it's stronger than other times. The thing is I don't get the smell from any of the sinks themselves, toilet, nor bathtub. The closest drains to the wall are the bathroom and kitchen sinks. I get the scent through a pinhole on the wall as well as the light switch in the bathroom. I realized outside the washing machine drainage was set to a new pipe. So the old one is just there cut open. I think that would explain the hint of sewer gas on the outside if that ptrap has dried out. I don't want to cover/seal it or pour water inside it because i don't want the scent on the wall to increase if it is related to that. If its no longer coming out through that cut open pipe the only way out would be the wall inside the house??? Would pouring one of those enzyme drain cleaners on the roof vent make it worse if that up there is clogged?
@ThorntonAndGrooms
@ThorntonAndGrooms 8 месяцев назад
Hey Aaron, there is a lot there so I will do my best to help out. To me, it definitely sounds like a venting issue. You could start with pouring enzyme cleaner down the vent stack and see if that works. I would take a flashlight and see if there is anything visible in there as well. If the enzyme cleaner doesn't work, you may need a plumber to check out the vent and surrounding plumbing. The problem could also be a clogged studor vent somewhere in the bathroom or kitchen; or needing a studor vent added with the washing machine having a new discharge line without proper ventillation.

1. Try CLR or white vinegar to clean the aerator. 2. Block the drain so that pieces do not fall down it.

my furnace is a luxaire high efficient model that was installed in 1994 great furnace, i will replace the heat exchanger over purchasing a new model because we all know they do not make appliances to last like they used to and also the new furnaces have to much electronics in them and we all know the simpler the product the less to go wrong.

Mine is an old (mid-80s) Carrier. It always worked fine until recently, when it started banging when shutting down. It would turn-off, then bang and restart for a few seconds, then bang a few more times, then re-start for a few seconds, then finally shut-down completely. Any ideas? Thank you!
@ThorntonAndGrooms
@ThorntonAndGrooms Год назад
It could be a few things. You could have an issue with the thermostat in sensing the right temperature, depending on how old it is. It could also be a control board issue on the furnace that is getting random power causing the motor to turn on. As for the shaking, it could be a loose connection causing the blower motor to shake, or the duct work could be expanding and contracting making noises. You should probably get someone out there to take a look and confirm what is happening. Once you know what's wrong with it, you can handle it accordingly. One thing to keep in mind with a unit from the 80s is the availability of parts. You may run into issues there.

@@ThorntonAndGrooms : Thank you for responding. I’ll take a look at these issues, then consider cost of repair vs. replacement. I plan to retire and sell the house in two years, so that weighs against investing in a new system; on the other hand, a new system will make the house more attractive to potential buyers.

So when you do an annual inspection you should test the capacitor with a multimeter and visually inspect the contactor, clean the outdoor condenser coil and inspect the condensate pan and A-coil and clean the condensation tubes. The only thing I can't do is check the gas levels. Am I right? Did I leave anything out.

New house and I have an issue with slime build up (and the related odor) in the tailpiece of the bathroom sinks, and a stinky garbage disposal. I'm thinking it's the fault of the ultra low-flow faucets not effectively flushing out the pipes (this is in California) .
@ThorntonAndGrooms
@ThorntonAndGrooms Год назад
Could definitely be due to the faucets. It could also be a venting issue in the bathrooms not allowing the water to flow smooth. Have you noticed any gargling in your drains?

Great video! As the manufacturer of EZ Trap (and Safe-T-Switch, AquaGuard and All-Access condensate shut-off sensors), another reason NOT to use vinegar is because of the off-gassing that can damage soft metals....the aluminum in the AC Coil. Thanks for the video!!!
