Magazine editor - turned RU-vidr!
Hi I’m Leonie and in a former life I edited some of New Zealand’s top-selling women’s magazines including Fashion Quarterly, CLEO, SHE, New Idea and The Australian Women’s Weekly.
I started this RU-vid channel to share some of my fashion and beauty tips and tricks. I'm 56-years-old and really believe that fashion can make us look and feel amazing . . . at any age.
My husband and I saw a few young ladies sporting some short cowboy boots in Florence over the past few days. I thought they looked cute but my husband commented on how ridiculous he thought it was to wear them in summer.
These were all baloney, respectfully. It’s all excess little cheap details and things. None of it is actually like practical OR really easy to find beautiful. Like those cheap looking crochet flower chokers they look so makeshift and silly!
I’m turning 60 this year. I’ve never ascribed to the dressing for your age theory but it always happens on these milestone birthdays that all of a sudden I start a reevaluation of my wardrobe. The hardest by far was my twenties going into my thirties. I didn’t know my style yet and I had a lot of trashy clothes lol. For this year I just realized most of shorts are too short for me to feel my best, my boho style may not be my thing any longer and I’ve been trying to only buy natural fabrics because living in Florida it’s better for my health, my body and microplastics are just frightening tbh. I have given a lot of my heels to my much younger sister, I’m Saving some fabulous shoes for my niece and sexy, structured but easy is my new style for now. Thanks for saying the hard ones out loud. Some people won’t like it but it was what I was arriving too as well.
Been wearing mismatched earrings for many years so glad they are back, don’t like Mary Jane’s but my daughter loves them, glad to see belts back and red accessories ❤️ lovely video, thank you
Love your vids! Please could you do a video on how to integrate/style summer pieces into winter outfits?? - for those of us currently going through the coldddd....... and still wanting to make use of the dainty summer pieces instead of having to wait half a year.
The main thing for me at age 60 is quality fabrics. I love silk, linen, cotton, wool.. I do wear some rayon but avoid plastics like polyester, elastics, and nylon.
I like your videos. I am 60. I wear shorter shorts because I have huge calf muscles. Longer shorts and capris cut me off in the weirdest way. Skinny jeans forever, midrise as I have zero waist.
You are making me look forward to accessorizing (I was just going through a box of stuff and found some jewelry) because that is one category I do have lots of in so many categories but don't take the time to plan it out nor have them readily available for me to see.
I have always owned Mary Janes. A classic versatile shoe. So easy to dress up or down. Totally going to rock the socks with them. I saw that in Italy years ago and have been doing it since. I’m pulling scarves out more. Wore one as a belt recently. Seems I only need to shop my closet to be on trend this year. Love it! ❤ BTW You are the only fashion trend content I watch. So spot on. You make it easy to dig out stuff I already own and give it a fresh look. Cheers 🥂
I’ve been wearing Monica Vinedar mismatched earrings that I created I’ve collected her line for years all the others you mentioned have been in my personal playbook in San Diego Makes me feel good and relevant at 67 😂😹🌊
Mmmmmm . . . NO on the mismatched earrings. Same goes for socks with heels/sandals. NOPE. Who is coming up with these ridiculous "fashion trends"? I've always been a silver person, with only the very occasional gold accessories.
I don’t get the double bag trend, I would think you would be at risk for accidentally dropping one or something and it seems like it would make you vulnerable to getting one, or both, snatched. For your own safety I think it’s best to have one bag and hold it close to your body. Even when traveling I try to keep things as condensed as possible so as not to lose something. The rest of the trends I am totally here for! Thanks for the video ❤
Birks and Adidas shoes with scrunchie, textured socks work good for me, lightweight socks with loafers work as well. I love my shorter necklaces layered , but chokers aren’t really my jam..I like them on other people. Love the content!
Really enjoyed this video. There are a few trends here that I could get on board with. Happy to see silver trending as I love silver. I'm cool toned and look much better in silver and I mostly wear silver/white gold regardless if it is in or not. Now I can stock up. I also like the party bags. I have been seeing a lot of belts lately and while I don't typically wear belts I have been thinking of getting a few. I specifically want a white belt with silver hardware for summer. Always loved Mary Jane shoes and on the lookout for a cute pair. I like layered necklaces but I only like to layer two together for a more minimal look. I like beads too and I think they look good layered with a chain necklace but they have to be the right beads. I like smaller beads. A big noooo for me is mismatched earrings and socks and shoes. I don't see these trends sticking around too long. I find the scarf and ball cap trend laughable. I have noticed a lot more straw and raffia bags this summer. I guess they are always here in summer but seems to me there are a lot more this year.
There's definitely something for everyone which is fantastic but I encourage everyone to check their closets and drawers before making any purchases, you might be surprised how many of these trends you already own especially if you are an older gal like me 😅, also secondhand shopping is a great way to save some 💰 if you want to partake in a trend
It must be my age therefore ive been around the fashion-block at least once or twice and my heavy entrance into "quiet luxury/old money" aesthetics but trends no longer excite me. I'll still enjoy your videos though 😊
