No excuse for Federer to lose this match. Nobody cares or wants to hear how well Tsonga played in the final three sets. Roger got to relaxed and cocky as he often did in 2010 and 2011, and missed huge opportunities to win 2-3 more slams. Roger Federer's cockiness and arrogance on the tennis court is the reason he's not the Greatest Tennis Player Of All-Time and Novak Djokovic is the Greatest Tennis Player of All-Time.

When I look at Alcaraz nowadays, he reminds me of Tsonga, except the fact that Alcaraz is the consistent version of Tsonga especially at majors. That's how insanely good Tsonga used to be when he could play at his very best.

Tsonga's level in the last 3 sets is one of the biggest god modes in tennis history, this performance doesn't get talked about enough... Federer had no look on return games from the 2nd set on, even though he only hit 11 UEs during the whole match.

Agreed. Tsonga proved to the world that he's very much capable of defeating big 3 / big 4 on any day as long as he's playing at his very best. When I watch Alcaraz nowadays, Alcaraz reminds me of Tsonga, except that Alcaraz is the consistent version of Tsonga.

This was utterly disappointing from Federer. We missed out on what could've been an amazing semi final against Djokovic. Federer needed to show more fight here perhaps maybe an energy drink or two. Idk his problem. Besides tsonga playing amazing he failed to put away some key shots in particular the one on break point where tsonga smashed that passing shot up the line federer needed to hit it in the open court. Other than that I'll have to watch what happens more closely here after the first two sets. I've only seen the highlights. From the highlights not the condensed it appeared maybe Federer after winning the first two sets got a bit to relaxed. Tsonga playing flawless is still not an excuse for him to lost here on his favorite court up two sets while still playing at a high level in his career. He should've been able to come up with something the those three sets. Disappointing. The Federer Djokovic would've made for a better semi we all know🎉

That shot at 10:42 is actually insanely hard to do off a wonky ball like that, to prepare late, over run it yet contort the wrist under and inside it enough to hit it wide enough but still flick it with spin to land short and centred away from the sideline, that's real genius hand work in tennis right there. So easy to miss it wide as you can never practice it yet somehow he pulls it off. The Maestro, greatest of all time in pure tennis ability.

Yes, especially having to deal with Nadal in his physical prime. I don’t think there is a soul who would ever be capable of pushing prime/peak Nadal to 5 sets on clay. There are a few who would be lucky to take him to a 4th set.

While Federer was obviously affected by his SF bout against Delpo here people always ignore he fact that in the Wimbledon final Andy looked like the better player in the first two sets while there were regular outdoor conditions (Roger was really fortunate to hang on in that second set an managing to break at the end of it). Once the roof got closed is that Roger clearly starting dominating. Perhaps if the roof remained open this could've been the same result in Wimbledon as well.

People get so deceived by false social media narratives. All I see is standard baseline slogging, no different to today. The only difference is this is shot with a potato which makes everything “look” faster. I remember once the MLB network tried to “debunk” modern radar guns by timing the pitches in slow motion to say that pitchers from the past were throwing just as hard as today. Then experts replied back, showing that in 30 FPS footage the difference between 90 MPH and 100 MPH isn’t even registered in a single frame 🤣

My goodness this bounce appears to be slow compared to Greenset, which they’ve used since 2017. Thankfully they got rid of rebound ace after 2007. Not only was it inconsistent but it was also sticky when it got very hot and humid. According to ChatGPT: 1: Rebound Ace: The slowest, with a higher and sometimes unpredictable bounce. 2. Plexicushion: Faster than Rebound Ace, with more consistent playing conditions. 3. GreenSet: The fastest among the three, designed to provide a quicker pace and lower bounce, promoting more aggressive play and shorter points

@MrTresto

Should have won against his all-time nemesis? This is Nadal we're talking about, the greatest of all time on clay, the very one who DESTROYED Federer for years except at Wimbledon (then even beat him there), until Federer finally 'figured him out' in his mid-30s, at the point Nadal had already won something like 10x French open and was physically slowing down a bit.... This first historical win of Roland Garros at 17, followed by a dozen others to show it wasn't a fluke, is definitely meant to be. I say that as a Federer fan. Nadal was just something else on clay (and in general, but even more so on clay).

@jbm8167

It’s easier to beat someone lots of times in the same year than do so over multiple years, because over time your game and their game is evolving. Federer himself found this in 2017 when he had a nice period where he matched up really well with Nadal and beat him 4 times

We all know Federer as the greatest attacking player of the baseliner era, but his defense on display in the point at 1:28 is just fantastic. It's not a great ball that he hits after Reid's plus-one, but good enough to achieve neutrality after Reid decides to stay back rather than approach that defensive FH. Then Fed unloads a deep heavy FH at Reid's feet, forcing the error. Federer winning 18 of 22 games in this match is a product of great athletic defense as well as that incredible offensive firepower that we see in highlight reel after highlight reel. Thanks again to @7ennis for editing and uploading these videos. As much as we all love watching the legendary matches with Nadal, Djokovic, Agassi, Sampras, and even Kyrgios, these videos help us understand how one of the GOATs came to win 74 of 80 matches over the course of one year. Utterly dominant, especially here!

Another guy who doesn't know what he is talking about... Take for example supposely ''weak era'' opponents that Federer had when he was destroying the tour like Blake, Roddick, Davydenko... Compare his h2h against those guys with what Nadal and Djokovic did against them... You would be surprised by the results... Federer is a combined 50-6 against those 3 players... Djokovic has a losing record and 5 losses just against roddick. A combined 13-7... Nadal has a losing record and 6 losses vs davydenko... A combined 16-12... The players Federer was beating were not bad, it's just that Federer in his prime was just so much better than everybody else.
