I’ve fished multi-species my whole life and in over a hundred tournaments, often placing in the top ten. Working in the tackle industry, giving seminars, and designing rods and swimbaits, I’ve thrown just about everything. I know what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t...so you don’t waste your money. Co-starring in Fun Fishing TV and having owned restaurants, I enjoy catch and cook. I just love everything about the sports of fishing and hunting and hope to share my passion with you!
Gotta get in line lol I've been so busy doing my electronics consulting. I'm on the water five days a week the last two months. Go to my website info@alanfongoutdoors.com see what I offer
I listen to you every drill morning on my way in. Used to listen to old boy bob sims on the 650 but he kinda dissed us a bit. Won’t get into details but know yall got a lot of friends that listen to you on the way into drill.
It's a little to far for me but a lot of my friends have been going there and doing very well. Last couple years it's been very good with nice size koks.
When I was a little kid, the family went down to Sac River Deep Water Channel. Everyone's pole was in the water and it was dark by then. My mom said to my dad ..was that news report about the tide? Dad answers no, they were talking about the SF Giants game being tied. Famous last words as dad waded in shin deep water to reel in the poles.
Hi Alan, I've been fishing those dirt canals out between Los Banos and Dos Palos Y in the general area of Highway 152 for close to 50 years. I've caught a lot of fish out there. Do you think there would be any type of audience that would be interested in me going into details about the structures that are hangouts for all kinds of nice sized fish of all sorts? I hardly see anyone fishing out there anymore. Do you think other fishermen may think canal fishing is beneath them? Just for an example, my son and I were fishing on a weir in a dirt canal, and we caught 7 keeper sized bass in that one spot. None of my acquaintances would ever fish with me, but one day, one of them was tired of not being able to find a place where his seven year old son could catch fish. We fished the canals from 5 pm to dusk and caught over 25 catfish 2-5 lbs. ( we released them all). Most of those were in 1 spot. They were biting when we left because the mosquitos ran us off. p.s I only casted out once that at another hot spot and nailed a 20 in striper. Do you think people would fish out there if they knew what I knew? I just discovered your channel, so thanks for that.
Alan you need to introduce your co-host. I have maybe seen her at tackle warehouse. But not everyone. I'll never get tired of listening to you. Fishing is kind of like baseball. Good stories
Thats Denise the gal I did most of the videos with. After I retired and started my electronics consulting I've been crazy busy teaching people how to use their fishfinders.
This whole sturgeon fishing thing has turned into a mess .They would be stupid to not make it at least catch and release. If they close it down completely think about all the businesses that would suffer. They would loose a ton of money .Like you said they had that meeting way far away to where people didn’t want to drive there let alone have to work. Why not have it on a Saturday centrally located where everyone can go.On top of that they didn’t start talking about sturgeon till 4:30.What a joke .
Location, time and day of these meetings are set up so no one can go! I think the wrong people are in office relating to these issues. Looks like they want to take all of our fishing and hunting away here in California????????
I fished with Raul Rich Al N Alex for halibut. One Halibut two strips take home. It was choppy I never tossed a lure….five guys on the boat…. Best Day Of Fishing This Year…A Fun Group Of Guys To Fish With. Rich Rod told me a little story about you Fong. You R 2 Cool Kid.. Even way back N the day.
Water temps are getting into the seventies now so I'll look for sparse weeds and current. The bass are shallow feeding in weeds feeding on crawdads. Current is the key
Water temps are warming up fast so it depends what fish you are trying to catch? From the bank now Sac River catching small stripers. Lakes bluegill, bass and catfish.
You can get a electrical charge off wire cable on an electric or manual DR. Not sure but I use a voltmeter set on DC lowest setting and ground black lead to boat and put red (positive) side on cable while your trolling and get the reading. If negative you have a hot boat. Best is half volt
I know these videos are from a while back, but I wanted to thank you. The videos are very informative. You deliver the content in a manner that beginners to advance can understand
Thanks again Alan really like your channel. Quick question what would you recommend for a Kokanee rod. And do you use a different rod when fishing while using lead core off the back of the boat vs on a down rigger?
Lots manufactures make kokanee rods. There are usually light action with parabolic bend so it can be loaded up in the DR. I prefer 7 ft and 7'9" to 8ft as I stack n use the 7' for the top rod. For lead core I use a little heavier rod and prefer fiberglass as it more flexiable. I'm using a 7' cranking rod designed for bass fishing.
Thanks for the info and FYI, Whiskeytown is not a sleeper. Probably the most consistent Kokanee lake around, limits or near limits always and most fish 15-16” and thick. Been that way since the fire several years ago
Great video! Gotta get out to the delta next week, hopefully the stripers are still there, it’s been a busy spring for me! I wanna go scoop up those big mamas out there!! Thanks for the update!!
Good morning Alan thank you for the report. Very helpful How much do you charge just for a basic setup and to do the updates on a Lowrance fs9 ? I have two of them. #TugLife
I still think that striper are in the rio vista area also. Going out this weekend. I typically do good up until July around sandy Beach rio vista. Usually anchor out in 15 feet deep water or less.
I'll get the model in the next day or so for you. It's a 20 ft Duckworth with 4 Optimun 10 cannon DR, Minnkota Ulterra auto deploy, Lowrance HDS 12 Pro and a HDS 9 Pro in back and Yamaha 150 four stroke
Yes its a very well put together boat. It's rigged with the best and perfect for stripers, trout, kokanee and out in the bay for halibut n stripers. I'm only using it for kokanee and trolling for stripers in delta. After the year I bet it will only have 30-40 hours on motor.
Just met him at EG Toyota the other day as my daughter n wife had service on their vans. Milton was talking to my daughter and I came up in the conversation lol
Alan just want to let you know I have really enjoyed watching your videos. After watching your video on Kokanee fishing and your telling about lead core line I purchased some at Fishermen’s Wharehouse. They did not have 12 pound so I bought 15 pound. My son and I fished bullards June 19th and we caught 4 out of 9 on the lead core and lost a few more. You said when asked by the lady on your boat what helps you to do better than a lot of others and you said Lead-core you were right. Thanks again Alan really appreciate your videos. If it helps you how do I purchase things on your channel to help you out.
Thanks for your reports just wondering about the trout pens at berryessa are they operating them now and who's doing it would like to help out by donating
William I see you found the answers. I shoot FX PCP airguns but you can get into it a lot cheaper and still kill. I started with a Marader 25 cal and killed varmits with no problem. I use Arken scopes as they are very nice.
Alan I receive on line Hard Air Magazine I’ve read quite a bit about PCP air rifles. What brand did you purchase in the 30 cal. And what is the name of the scope that actually has a turret? Thanks for your time in advance.
I have had you help me out at the store like thousands of others. From fish finder to salmon jigging you were always polite and very helpful to me a guy with just enough experience to be dangerous lol. I thank you for that and I thank you again for these videos.
