FYI I believe the problem is too much moisture. Check that your door gaskets and the articulating mullen are sealing properly and clear the drain by forcing water thru it. You may have to clean the drain tube in the back of the refrigerator, the black check valve at the top of the tube gets clogged. Also, if you are having problems getting a new fan motor quickly, and have some food safe silicone lube spray, try removing the old fan, spray some lube from the underside of the fan blade to get it into the hub area while spinning the blade with your fingers until it feels free. It may function until you can get a replacement.
Thank you for this video, we have a cold fridge again. The only parts that gave me trouble was the condenser had so much ice I couldn't get the cover off, I had to use a hair dryer. The other part was getting the fan wires out of the guide. All done now, thank you.
People doing repairs they have no business doing. Hook up the refrig to 240 volts that should take care of everything. I love stupid people, I have Customers who will spend hundreds of dollars trying to fix their own appliance's and then cry when i tell them my Service Call is 75.00. Stupid is that Stupid does. Thank God for Ignorant Liberal's
I have a GE Profile looks like is the same regrigerator. I'm having a small issue on the side where it has 2 fan holes where the air comes out is only blowing cold air in one of them not on the other one can that fan be the issue?
Very good video and it works for me. However, I got a problem to get the part (evaporator fan) from local stores if you want to get the fan right the way beside Amazon. You won't find it in Home Depot. If people live in L.A., you can get the fan from Coast Appliance.
Hey thanks! On my model I did not update the firmware. If your model matches mine you're good to go; double check your model but chances are it'll probably be fine without it in my opinion. The instructional I received match a model that differed from mine that needed a firmware update.Good luck!
. Yea my serial # started with sd but I recently had the fan replaced in the temp control vegi drawer and the man updated through a USB on the top of the fridge. My new fan for the main level is pn WR60X35205

Thank you for the video. Our fridge would make rumbling, knocking, grrrr sounds and I thought this is gonna be an expensive repair. Thanks to your video I ordered the part and certainly feel it’ll be fixed. I’ll just tell my wife it was an expensive repair so she won’t go to Starbucks as much. 😀
Thanks I just swapped my out, my Fridge was warm up top and freezing in the lower drawers. I was planning on let the fridge thaw out and found the fan. When I tried to turn it it was frozen. I ordered a fan from Amazon, but was able to pick one up locally, 2x the Amazon price, but we have our Fridge back. Appreciate you posting this.
Great job man , one issue though , once you reached this far with your fridge i think you should have cleaned the drainage pipe , you will be amazed with amount of dirt accumulated in that drainage pipe .
@@jatala on the lower back side of the fridge you will find a metal panel secured with 5screws , once you open it you will find drainage pipe and drainage pan as well as evaporator on the right side . The drainage pipe has a rubber nipple designed in such a way to limit the drainage water into drops , usually that rubber nipple gets clogged by scales waists that looks like egg shells let alone the pan and the evaporator . Hope to see more of your grate videos
I have a ge fridge mo.#gshl6phkcels was working when i bought it .then freezer was good but. Fridge was only cold in lower region.then freezing. Now ive noticed the wires two were not connected in the front from below left and right by each door need wiring diagram or what to do next
Thank you for sharing this.. I have the same exact one.. same problem and I'm ready to change mine.. would you share how to change the software.. thank you This video help a lot..
@@jatala I've got a Used GE unit... looks exactly like yours here. I bought it in January and it immediately had this problem. The store came and replaced the fan, but I think it'd gone again. I ordered the same part number you have here. I don't know if the store used that part number or a different one... wondering if the fan you put in in 2018 is still going?
@@DANT98 I have since moved and no longer own the unit unfortunately, but it was working perfectly when I did. These fans are cheap quality and if you got the same part number as I did you are probably safe. It's easy enough to replace to see if it works. Good luck!
Sometimes my GE refrigerator has same problem. When it occurred the refrigerator compartment will up to 58F-60F(whatever what temp I set) and the down drawer will be freeze, then the freezer compartment will down 2 F as I set.So obviously the refrigerator's evaporator fan didn't work caused the problem. But after several days it works normally, looks like the fan works again, but it's very loud. And after several days the problem will come back again,so the problem just randomly happened.I am not sure is it the evaporator fan problem,it seems like it's not completely not working, just like sometimes it's dead and sometimes it just alive.I am very confused with it.Do you have any suggestion?Thank you!
If you are still having the same issue after all this time, I suggest you replace the fan. That sounds like what mine did for several months, then it icing occurred, then the fan went out. Waiting for replacement so I can install it. I wish I'd replaced it when the fan started making noises; I just wasn't aware of the fix at that time.
@@gmoore7353 I did, just the fan cause the problem. The fan has 2 speeds, just one is failed so confused us. You are right, replace it when the fan start making noises.
I ordered the same fan # and now my fridge is cold but bottom still freezing everything. Got the update firmware today.....I updated it and hope the issue resolves itself. I will update you guys tomorrow. Now my water is not coming out so I was hoping the firmware would fix that as well but hasn't yet. Update tomorrow.
That's too bad I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like you may have some other issues going on. I would try to determine if the new fan is spinning at all.
My serial number starts with LA. Based on the instructions you show, it appears to be outside the range that requires reprogramming. Unless it says something different? Someone mentioned in the comments that part number WR60X29099 also works and needs no reprogramming regardless of serial #, but it is a lot more expensive than the replacement part you mentioned, WR60X26866. As long as LA doesn't require reprogramming, I think it is better to go for the part you mentioned. I think I can accomplish it all except possibly reprogramming. I am bound to screw that up. So hopefully it isn't needed.
@@jatala Despite what GE told me, that only part WR60X29099 would work for me regardless of my serial number range, I went for the part you said WR60X26866. It worked perfectly. As my serial started with LA, there was no need to reprogram. Thanks so much for your help with the clear and detailed video you posted. Saved me a lot of money. It is much appreciated! For any others, my model is slightly different than mentioned in the video, mine is GE Profile PFE29PSDSS. Serial number starts with LA. Part worked fine. Cost about $56.00 on Amazon. Got from there as I was able to return at no cost (Prime item) if for whatever reason it did not work. Thankfully it did!
@@leigh458able Does anyone know what will happen if you use WR60X26866 in a model where the SUM is required? I have a GFE29HMEHES with serial # starting with HD. Apparently that serial # is in scope for the SUM update. I ordered the full WR49X25197 kit that SHOULD have had fan and SUM, but the parts company sent me just the WR60X26866 fan. And that took over a week. I can't go another week without a half functioning refrigerator while waiting for the full kit or the WR60X29099. I'm tempted to just plug in this fan and see what happens, but wondering if it might burn up the motor or something (does the software update limit fan speed?)
Thank you! My GE fridge of 3.5 years old had this fan go out as well (purchased in Jan 2017). Not sure what is so problematic with these fans compared to other fridge models. Either way, super helpful video that was really easy to follow. Thanks, man.
Question...was your fan still running but not at the correct speed? I'm having a very similar problem as what you are referencing but my evaporator fan is running. Don't know if it is running fast enough?
I suppose it is possible. Mine was not spinning at all, but made some awful vibration sounds before it went out completely. In your situation if there is not enough air moving over the evaporator coils it is possible for them to still freeze up.
Wasn't sure what happened with the fridge but when I found this video it was exactly the same issues. Ordered the part and received it a few days later. The repair took one hour. Thank you for the video as it walked me through exactly what I needed to do. The repair worked and now the fridge works like new.
Thank you for this post. I did not update the software but installed the fresh food fan on my model GFE28HGHBBB and I used Part # WR60x29099 and all went well for few days...then the water dispenser froze and I have ice under the deli tray. I poured hot water down the tube under the fan but still it freezes. I didnt receive any instructions with the fan so I was unable to update the software, do you think this is the problem?
It is possible. You will want to be sure that you reference your specific model number and the part the GE recommends from their diagrams. You may also have other issues going one as well. Good luck!
Thanks for posting this. I have the same model w/ the same problem. After seeing how easy it was to access, and then swap out the fan, I just ordered the part ($38) and saved myself a big bill for a service call. Our fridge is working like new. Thanks again.
I'm on my second time replacing this damn fan. First time was less than a year of ownership so it was under warranty. My part comes from amazon tomorrow night. Looks pretty simple. Thank you.
My bottom freezer ice dispenser stopped making ice and just use it as food storage. The temp on my fridge is 42 and I'm currently concerned if this fan needs to be replaced.
Quick question...I ordered the fan and the update module. The fan is here but the module won't be here till the 3rd week of January. Do you know if I can go ahead and put in the fan and then update the software when the module arrives?
Good question Jimmy. If you're in a pickle, I suppose you could get that new fan in and see if it kicks on without the firmware update. Worst case is it won't kick on. I assume the firmware update is to fix what is making these fans go out prematurely. So you'll probably want to get it updated as soon as it comes in or you may end up ordering a new fan again. ;) I need to mention that my model didn't need a firmware update, the replacement fan came without it. It all depends on the model fridge, and I got lucky! Good luck and happy new year!
@@jatala Thanks for the quick response. I went to the link that showed the criteria for the serial number letters. I noticed the yellow paper on your video showed the date range from May 2015 through March 2015. When I checked my numbers, it was May of 2015, which if I read right, put me out of the need for the update. So I went ahead and installed and will check it in about an hour to see if it is cooling. Your video saved the day. I will probably still update the firmware when the component comes in. Man...that fridge needed a cleaning. Took longer than the repair.
This video was outstanding. Thank you Jonathan Fasullo for posting it. I ordered the part #WR60X26866 from the GE website www.geapplianceparts.com . It cost $48.22 total and was delivered in 3 days. I popped it in and it worked without any further programming or anything else. If you order from the GE site, look for a discount code and it may knock off a bit and/or get you free shipping (I got about $10 off). The GE site also allows returns within 30 days, or up to 90 days with a $15 restocking fee. Thanks again for the video, Mr. Fasullo.
