I wouldn't get a job in Japan. I've been here for a while and never done my taxes for the US. Went back home this summer and talked to accountants and they all pretty much laughed at me and asked why I wanted to file my taxes after finding out how much I make.

Yeah I think the thing about Japanese only in Class and Teaching Methodes make a lot of sens ... I now know why they all don't speak any english ... they way they teach here and can't even help you if you don't understand something because they have no way of communicatin with you if you aren't fluent already from the beginning. Also my school time isn't super long but its 13-17 so the whole day is ripped apart and there is almost no time to go anywhere which is more than ~30 minutes away by train maybe an hour depending on how early you get up / how long you want to stay outside but lots of shops only open at ~9 and close at ~18 again so yeah kinda sucks bad.

Im not but that for cat or dog to shoo them away from peeing there. Well, it doesn't work on human tho. Thank god Japanese people have shame enough not to pee on sidewalk.

That might be the average salary for Japanese but not for foreigners in Japan. The average salary for a foreigner without any special skills (English teacher or factory worker) is between 2.8m and 3m a year. There is no way that 280,000 is the average, just search Gaijinpot. Even ALTs in school only get about 250,000 a month and usually get no or a partial salary in the summer. It hasn’t changed since the 90s. It might be possible for a single person but if you have a family, it’s definitely not enough. In the 90s, the idea was to come to Japan for a year and save a lot of money. That’s not possible anymore. Much like many videos, it’s glorifying Japan.

Interestingly enough, this is the exact reverse of what you're expected to write for the JET Programme. They will say otherwise, of course, but their emphasis is still on recruiting 'cultural ambassadors' instead of teaching assistants.

Also if you have a low income or no income you can often get subsidies during summer and winter from your city. This is especially helpful if you are a student, since often your income will qualify for this!

Good video! If you are interested in really succeeding teaching English in Japan, check out the book On Living and Working in Japan by James Rogers. It's about going from this first step (Eikaiwa/ALT/JET Programme) teaching with no experience all the way to becoming a tenured university professor in Japan. I've been here 20 years, have over 50 publications, PhD, 3 books, and have won over 30 million yen in Jp govt grants to do research with (you can confirm that online btw). The book tells you how to accomplish all that, and also just gives some general tips on how to live well in Japan. Oh, and I wrote it. Lol. 笑
