This is very helpful. I’m heading to the Dolomites this weekend and was expecting sunny skies but there’s a load of snow everywhere! What app were you using for trails?
@anindyachanda9668 thank you for commenting :) I'm usually using a UV filter or a CPL filter if the conditions require to do so. Very rarely a yellow filter with black an white but I'm finding myself not using it most of the time anyway
Absolutely by eye 😂 the good thing is that shooting at F16 on a pretty wide lens you have a very good depth of field to play with. I've found that past 5-6 meters it's pretty easy to have the subject in focus (sorry I'm bad with the conversion between ft and m). Things get difficult when it's darker, but generally speaking I would always try by eye and learn from the mistakes
What a beautiful location, and no people around!! This camera is a beast. Hope you are continuing to enjoy this camera. Fuji are an amazing company and we can only be grateful they produced such amazing cameras. I don't have a 617. I do own a GSW690 which I love. And I get 4 more exposures per roll than you😂 I would love to shoot with the 617 for sure. A true panoramic.
Hey there, thank you for your comment! I'm definitely shooting with it, but life is pretty busy, and doing RU-vid on top of it is quite challenging. Fuji made some incredible cameras for sure. I love the panoramic format! If you can find one to use for a while, you'll not regret those 4 exposures less 😂 I hope you'll enjoy some nice light in your next shoot!
It's nice to see your generation using this type of equipment, the 6x17 was always part of my professional kit, along with a 4x5 , 6x7, 6x9 and of course 35mm. I used mine with a 90mm lens. Great work !
Hey John, thank you so much for your kind comment! I've always looked up to the previous generation, back when professionals used film. I think the level of skill and "eye" was extremely high. I'm glad to be able to still use film in my daily life! Have a nice day
@@michelefranciotta Siamo eroici haha! Ciao!
I miss Florence so much. You have chosen some of my favorite spots in town. I use the Rollei 35s, too, and I love your shoots. Thank you so much for sharing.
Ciao Michele, bellissime foto e video! Grazie in anticipo, buona giornata 😉
Hey Jim thank you for commenting! Yeah I tend to use the built in meter and it's pretty reliable. I tend to overexpose it a touch. The lens hood is on a UV filter with a normal thread, it was already there when I bought the camera - but I think you can find one of the right diameter on ebay 😉
@scoops2007 thank you for the kind comment! No it doesn't depend on the battery, I just do it because usually I get better results with negative film. I wouldn't do it on slide film tho for example
@@michelefranciotta ah I see. I have heard that running a 1.5v battery with an adapter means the camera will over expose unless it has been adjusted. I am looking at picking one up soon. Looks like a fun camera!! Thanks for the pictures though they really help prospective buyers.
Thank you mate, I really appreciate it! I decided to stop posting work on YT and just went with the vlogging of my film photography. Still happy to see you liked it! Komm einfach mal in Südtirol!
Thank you Mario! Good idea, even though I already shot cinestill 800T during the day and it definitely works also on its own. Colours get shifted a bit but it's great for blue hour for example. Keep shooting 😊
Tough question! Out of the most consumed ones I would say Kodak Gold or Portra 400. I am shooting quite a lot of Ektar as well these days and I'm having good results. On the 120 format I like experimenting with slide film as well, Ektachrome most of the time.
@@michelefranciotta Thank you for your answers. I’m new to film photography, and is in the stage of experimenting different brands and types of films😅. Your suggestions help me narrow my choices down a-lot!.
When I scan with my Sony A7RII I end up with 42MP, then export a 2500px long image. When I use wescanfilm I usually get 24 MP but the quality is also much better because of drum scanning. Moreover you could get way bigger scans from it if you need that for printing :)
@@michelefranciotta The picture you took from the Rollei35 is very clear, very sharp. So I want to know what size you scanned it. I scanned it at 2700*1800. It's not very clear when posting on IG , FB .
@KhunTui-jl5nj it's either 7500px or 6000px wide, that is the start TIFF file. Then I open it in Lightroom to correct for color shift or other problems and resize it to 2500px for posting it. I resize it when I export the jpeg, but always start from a big TIFF or RAW file
@@michelefranciotta Thank you very much. You took very beautiful photos. I just got the Rollei35 Schneider Xenar camera. I don't know if it will take good photos or not. Because I haven't found any reviews of this lens on RU-vid. You are my idol.
Hi Michele, great video I especially loved when you mention the f stops your using .. I just got a Rollie and will go shoot it in very excited about this camera .. keep up the good work and keep shooting .. Cheers Tom.
Thank you so much Tom! I have made so many photos with the Rollei now, it's really one of my favourite cameras of all time. You will enjoy it for sure! I also have more videos coming but it has been tough these months so it might still take a while... thank you again for the motivation!
Thank you so much Drew! We visited Abruzzo last year as well and I made the same mistake! I didn't bring my film equipment. We both have a good reason to go back 😊
I only adjust the temperature and balance the colours when I'm not satisfied with the result from the scanning process, I would say 90% of the look is "organic" from the film stock. I mostly use Lightroom for a quick adjustment
Saro in Italia ancora in settembre, a toscana. Sto imparando l'Italiano - spero non ne troppo male! Auguri. A la prossima!
Thanks mate! All the infrared images were shot with the mirror locked up, it's paramount with such a low shutter speed. These were all on colour, but I did not see the point of using it. Do you use it every time?
@michelefranciotta No, not yet, but I think I would when shooting low shutter. Been shooting higher iso film on the RB67. Next one, I'll give it a go :)
@@michelefranciotta I own a a7r5 and about 8k in lenses. Recently I’ve fallen into a slump and lack of inspiration. Considering selling it and going to medium format film
@@tdawg719 my advice would be to be "project driven" with your photography. I use my film stuff for specific projects and my digital stuff for work. Maybe you can implement some film in your work for a specific project around your area and see where it takes you! Ps the A7RV is a great camera, also for home scanning!
So good! Man I would love to have another go at Venice, it's such an inspiring place. Be sure to take as many lateral pathways as you can. It's really where the magic happens. Oh and don't forget to eat some "tramezzini" while you're there!
When I do not feel like hiking up and down the hills with my 4x5 inch view camera, I carry my lighter and smaller RB67 with 50/90/180mm lenses instead.
Great video! For best results try exposing with sunny 16. At least double check the light meter indicator with your gut, the eye always wins. I prefer it over the light meter of the Rollei.
Thanks Julian! I do expose using the sunny16 rule all the time, even though I have to say that the light meter is quite spot on when there's no difficult scene to read 😊
Hi Michele Love your vid ,I to love the rb67 camera ,I have several now,I am dying to get out when the weather gets better, btw, what is the light meter app you are using, and what lens are you using .thanks John,Central coast NSW Australia.
Hey John, thank you so much for your comment! I'm using "light meter" app on android. That's how it's called, but if you use apple I'm sure there's plenty more. I'm shooting with the 90mm, which has a matching field of view of around 45mm on full frame 😊 hopefully the weather gets better and you can shoot more yourself!
the video was very nice, but you got to change the music. The drum machines are out and it is hard to hear you over that incessant clicking noise. The pictures are very nice, especially the one from the church. I love Rollei 35 cameras, I have a couple and really enjoy doing street photography with them.
@@michelefranciotta fortunately or unfortunately, content lives forever on the internet. So we got to be mindful of that. I am glad I found your "old" video. Overall, I enjoyed it. I will check out you other videos. Thanks for the content.
@igorvainshtein5731 it's always nice to look back and see how things change 😊 I'm happy to keep all the previous content as a starting point! Thanks for the feedback, it's always very appreciated!
Hey thanks for your comment! Portra 400 has a great exposure latitude and can be "abused" more than other film rolls. At the time gold 200 wasn't avaiable, so portra 400 was one of the easiest film stocks to work with in a testing situation. The colours are also very pleasing!
@@michelefranciotta thanks for your reply it’s an interesting approche indeed, I photographed a bit on my Fuji GX617 using Velvia 50/100 and Provia 400 (still have some stocks) but the exposure is sometimes very hard to get evenly on the whole frame especially when using the 90mm lens (with central filter) I also tried Kodak Ektar 100 which is quite saturated with good results and black and white film of course ! but never thought about shooting Portra 400. I also compared the Fuji frames with photos taken the same moment with a small Sigma Quattro camera and results are very close thanks to the Foveon sensor.
@fthprodphoto-video5357 that's such a great lot of information! Thanks for sharing! You should try portra as well on your next landscape film adventure 😊 there's another video on my channel where I shoot Kodak Gold, portra 160 (didn't go well) and also B&W film during a summer trip here in the Dolomites. I've also shot some provia, slide film is absolutely great but hard to nail in terms of exposure. It is better to avoid high contrast scenarios with it...
