Hollcana Farm is a family operated, 50 cow dairy herd in Ontario, Canada. This farm was started in 1960 by John Sr. and his wife Johanna who immigrated from Holland in 1954. It is now operated by their son Ron, his wife Debra and their son John Jr. with his wife Melynda. Their other son Jasper also works part time on the farm. The farm has all registered Holstein cows that are raised on the farm and are milked in a tie stall, hip roof, bank barn. We try to grow most of our feed for the cows and also sell some crops.
@@davidfahl9106 No worries! The square bin pads have soymeal and robot pellets and the round one will have a Westeel bin that will hold grain corn or barley.
@@Ironvalleylarry We made a new lane across to our other farm and the chickens are next door. I called it a road because of the "chicken crossing the road" joke😊
Comming together everytime a bit more, i think it wont be long that you guys are wondering do we need a skidsteer or a minishovel for sure, thanks again en hou het veilig, greetings from a dutch dairyfarmer
@@HollcanaFarm oh that's awesome! I was wondering if it was going to be for robotic milkers but I didn't realize they needed to have a roof on it. Very cool information thank you so much.
I read yal milking 50 cows ? Yal having a lot of new upgrades done for just 50 head of milk cows .do yal plan on adding cows ? Good video yal stay safe
@@mennoreuten1563 Sorry, the farm for sale was my Uncle's. It is more of a hobby farm, 25 acres. He passed away last October and my cousins decided to sell the property. They are just having a few sales to clean up some of the stuff.
@@user-bs5vk9vt1b Thank you for subscribing and watching my videos. My nephew really wanted me to video this tractor and put it on my channel. I will cherish the memories. Family is special!
@@rk3739 We chose that distance because we wanted that location ourselves. Originally we were planning on a pit under the barn and since we are close to the bedrock we thought that would be the only place we could dig that deep. The township does have a certain distance a barn has to be from dwellings especially if a neighbour's house. We also wanted to be up higher for wind and it is now closer to my son's house who does most of the work.😊
@@Rodney-sf1mc No, we are moving the one we have now but upgrading it. They will move it when the Milkhouse floor is ready and then we will use a loaner tank till we move to the new barn.
Great video today, so many pieces getting worked on. each video is showing a lot of changes and everyone is focused on the finish line. As always Thank You for bringing us along on your journeys.........
Wholy smoke in the Earth !Here we talking a progress forwards! Always great job the workers doing on the new barn! And landscaping Haha,it's that they called a Office dog?😅🤣👍
I have been following for 2 or 3 weeks. Just trying to figure out your location. I know it is Derby township, Georgian Bluffs. I'm in Chatsworth. I seen the fire number but the road I followed was different numbers than yours.😊
@@GaryWalpole Yes, when they made the fire numbers it messed up our address. Sometimes GPS takes you the wrong way. It used to be concession 6. I think the new road sign says 7.
@@davidbarnes706 Yes, even though a lot is done, there is still a big chunk to do. Thanks for seeing that. I have a lot of people who keep asking if it's done soon.
@@samb6126 that's what I think too. I asked him if he decorates cakes. He said no. I told him he would be good at it but he thought his smoothing tool might not be the best for cakes😂
No, we are putting up a dry grain storage steel bin. To store grain corn or barley in for grinding into the TMR. We already put up the silo for corn silage last year. Thank you! We are happy they are making the landscape look nice. It was hard to imagine what it would look like when we started. 😊
@@isaacsnavely1730Well, actually, that is a dry bale and we developed this way of finishing a row so that the haylage bales are better sealed. It was done on purpose. Thanks for the comment!
Great video today! Lots of action on multiple pieces, It's starting to look like brand new Farm and it looks like it will be so nice with all of the upgraded parts.... The new driveway should make it easier and with the fix for the tile and new culverts it should flow unrestricted for a very long time. by the looks of the feed room and new bins You'll be upgrading to the Lely Vector in no time ;) ........ Things are moving fast these days and it must be exciting knowing whats finally getting close to being done.... As AlwaysvThanks for bringing us along on your journeys......
We have been robot milking for 1 year now and absolutely love it!! We wish you all the best in your new adventure, you are working with the most incredible company!! They will be there for you every step of the way! Grand River is the best of the best 🐮
@@HollcanaFarm it’s the biggest life change you will ever make!! You’ll wonder why on earth you ever milked cows without it! The flexibility is unbelievable, chores aren’t a chore anymore!! They are most of the time enjoyable! They will teach you so much that your brain will feel full! I kept a notebook handy and when they were telling me info I would jot it down and that was a big help. Also have lots of pre maid meals in the freezer when you are starting up is a big time saver! You will be amazed at how the cows will learn the robot and how much happier they are in a new bright space where they can exercise and really rest! Love your videos and excitement ♥️♥️
Organized chaos, good to see opa ,doe hem de hartelijke groeten en ik hoop heel erg dat hij gezond en fit blijft om alles te zien en mee te maken als de stal klaar is,greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
@@mennoreuten1563 Thank you and greetings to you from Opa and us! We really hope Opa will get to enjoy the robot in good health too! He is really excited about it but it's almost too much to understand. So nice to hear from Holland!
@@HollcanaFarm thanks for the reply, i enjoy watching the whole trip to were to going to and its a little special because the lely and also Opa are from the netherlands
Looking good, can't wait to see it finished. What an investment in your dairy operation. The modern upgrades will make the operation efficient, and save man hours, not to mention cow comfort at its finest.
@@bonniehibma3580 It doesn't help anything to get upset. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it usually just makes things worse. Cows do better in a calm environment. I do too!😊
Wonderful Video today!. So many trades now working on many different tasks...... Glad Your getting so much footage as who could ever figure out where all the Electrical, Water, Milk, Manure, and Computer lines are routed under the soon to be poured floors...... seems like things are really flying now and must be hard to keep up with. Heard you mention today you were tired after the milk testing today, I can't wait to see your smile as the Lely Robot will be testing every cow every milking and giving you reports along with automatically disregarding any milk not up to your standards soon....... very exciting time now just trying to keep up. As Always Thanks for bringing us along on your journeys.....
Wow, there are a lot of lines under the floor. It is a good thing you will have a record by your recording this for the future if needed. The workmanship of everyone is impressive to me. I am amazed at the ground that you have to dig through. I can understand the need to put everything in that orange tile for protection. Thanks again for sharing, I am enjoying watch the construction.
Great video today..... your cows are very mellow and do not take much effort to get them into their stalls. With the New Barn and the Lely Robot will you have to chain them up anymore?, from all the farms I have seen that went to the Lely milking robots the cows are free to come and go as they want in the new robotic dairy barns. A lot of farmers say it takes about a week to get them used to the new system but once they get it they actually will milk themselves more often in a lot of cases. I hope this is true for you as well as it will free up a lot of time from what you do now in the current operation. You also had said your getting the Lely Discovery I think to help scrape the lanes. I can't wait to see the transformation that is about to take place there and how it will change things for all of you!.... As Always Thank You for bringing us along on your journeys....
@@allendavidson6608 Yes, we are excited about all the changes. Our cows will be free and not tied up anymore. We are hoping that since they have been handled the way we do now that it will be easier for them to get used to entering the robot.🤞 Thanks for joining us on our journey!
