Thanks for the VCS coverage, was holding back a little on this one (like Berzerk so much), but reading about the leaderboards today on discord makes me think I will pick this one up soon!
Great Vid! Went back and forth on this one (did a refund on steam) and came back to it, 27 hours in now. Really love this one, obviously would like it on VCS and it’s missing leaderboards (the OG release had these). One thing on some of the boards the electronic display would be cut off (could not see number for matches, for example), tried on a TV and monitor and could not fix it, any ideas?
@@sabertoothretro Yep, weird. Apparently if RU-vid switches to less than 720p 60hz to save bandwidth, it looks incorrect. Which is understandable, since it's designed around flickering at NTSC 60hz. :P
....oh... And my PC mode stick never worked ,and I just couldn't figure out how to send it back ,so its too late now. Maybe someone can fix the data on it or something.
It's been... over 20 years since I played this game, and hearing the MIDI port of John Williams' score blows me away. It feels like the original Wing Commander playing Star Wars music. This was obviously made back when LucasArts cared about what they made. Before the dark times. Before the Mouse Empire.
Thanks for sharing! The music is so nostalgia inducing! The thing I love about Nightdive's approach to remasters is that the quality of life improvements - mostly visual - don't detract from what made the original games great.
I apologize for the question, but when you play this through PC mode, are you accessing Steam from the VCS’ pc mode? I would love to start utilizing my VCS’ pc side (and my Steam account) but I’m intimidated by the process…lol
No apologies needed. Thanks for checking out the video. Yes, I'm running this on a stock VCS using PC-MODE. I loaded ChimeraOS onto my internal SSD and changed the boot order in the BIOS, so it launches instead of AtariOS. You can also run PC-MODE from an external hard drive or fast USB using the USB ports. I chose ChimeraOS because it's lighter/less resource intensive than Windows and runs most of my Steam games fine.
Have you played/seen the 2600 version of Boulder Dash 2? It truly has to be seen to be believed. You'd think it was on any system other than the 2600 if you didn't know better.
@@DaveMoorland-zv3tn I haven't played the 2600 version. I'll have to check it out. Is this the one available from AA by Andrew Davie & Thomas Jentzsch?
....I was singing the praises about PS1 in the mid 90'$. Then my mate Chris showed me turok on the N64 ,and I went straight out and got one. Still possibly the best N64 game ever !!!
Wow, thanks for saying hello! I've had Kasumi Ninja since '94. Of course, the game has never really left the gaming consciousness thanks to Angus' move set!
Atari is putting out games on the VCS. They just released Lunar Lander Beyond in April. Yars Rising has been announced for the VCS. The last indie title was in May and several are planned for the summer.
You're not wrong. There are times where I couldn't readily see enemies or their remains (which you need to eat.) After I got adjusted to the look it wasn't an issue.
My take is all of the above. There is clear inspiration from Killer Klowns. I think it has something to do with interdimensional demon clowns in space.
I dig it. I beat it on "Spooky" and went back to "Scared." Once I feel "gud", I will turn on those walls. I would love to get an 8 player game going at some point.
Battle zone is one of my all time favorites. I used to spend my 10p pieces at the arcade on this one . I have always loved tanks. And of course stegosaurus was my fave dinosaur as a kid. So ... Will I get this game ???. Indeedy weedy !!!
This is awesome! I love that they made the volcano an actually location and objective, i remember hearing that it was one of those urban legend back in the day where people were telling others it was possible to go to the volcano lol
