i think elizabeth's dependency and sadness really makes this movie work so well. the line that hits so hard is when nicolas cage's character tells her she can never ask him to stop drinking. she still goes on with him...great writing. this is a weird movie in that you know how its going to end from the beginning but keeps you there watching anyways. i really enjoy it.
I have no idea, I couldn’t find any information about his involvement. I wonder if his agent encouraged him to do an Italian wartime drama because he just did a wacky vampire film.
Please react to Peggy Sue Got Married. Peggy Sue (Kathleen Turner) has separated from her husband Charlie (Nicolas Cage). She attends her 25th high school class reunion and passes out. When she wakes up it’s 1960.
I agree with everything you said, except that Bottle Rocket doesn't feel Wes Anderson. I've heard that before but I see elements of it in all his films.
Yeah it’s got the Wilson brothers and some of the humour is very on brand, I just meant that it’s not as instantly recognisably Wes Anderson as his other movies.
Saw this movie a few days ago and had the exact same feelings. Say, if I could ask you (or anyone who sees this) what movies these timestamps are from? Please =)? 00:01 - 00:04 on a motorcycle (intro) 00:17 - 00:18 purple robe, fire, thin mustache (intro) 22.20 - 22:25 "not the bees" referenced in other movie (video)
@@coldsilence2 The motorbike part is from Ghost Rider 2, Cage rocking the thin moustache is from the fake trailer ‘Werewolf women of the SS’ that played during ‘Grindhouse’ and the not the bees reference was from ‘The unbearable weight of massive talent’.
@@Geothedude its ok i saw it a cage movie doesn' make over the top acting scenes a family man with the modern financial times crisis buddy you got to see the movie 👍👍
Overestimated movie. I watched it a few days ago, and, honestly, I find it too overacted and romanticized. The scenes are unrealistic, for an alcoholic.
I didn’t think it was appropriate to use my usual intro for this review but it will be back for the next video on the off-chance that people enjoy my terrible singing.
@@Geothedudeit’s someone who helps out a student who has special needs (ie autism and ADHD) in school. I had plenty of them throughout my time in school.
@@lillordakira9752 There’s one deleted scene with the baby ants getting designated their roles and it’s very similar to a scene in Antz so I get why that was cut. The exterminator scenes and the Zoc flashback should’ve stayed in though.
Oz Perkins is an acquired taste. I hated I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House and found it to be way too slow the first time I saw it. I didn't get his style until Blackcoat's Daughter. I'm a big fan of both films now and it sounds like he employed a similar style on this one. Even just the images from the trailer have a way of sticking in your subconscious somehow. Pretty excited to see it. Also, Nick Cage is God.
@@GlynDwr-d4h I’ve actually never seen any of Oz Perkins’ films other than Longlegs. I’m planning on watching Gretel & Hansel and The Blackcoat’s Daughter soon.
RU-vid recommended your channel to me and I am blown away at your lack of subscribers considering the quality of this video! Well done mate, looking forwards to seeing more from ya!
Really enjoy your aNic Cage reviews, especially the obscure and bizarre ones like “Deadfall”. I’m waiting for you to get to all those really bad straight to dvd ones. You do have your work cut out for you.
Talking about this movie, I only liked the giant sister scene, of Tiffany entering the kitchen as a giantess from the small perspective of Lucas an the ants
Cage really has a solid head on his shoulders. Sure he's been through some financial struggles throughout his career, but hes bounced back! With some of these roles he's played, its nice to see that he never plunged into the depths that others have. These types of roles can really mess you up mentally. Christian Bale is another one. Method actors.
What a fun channel, I just caught up and will be along for the ride. Can' wait for The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (mouthful), Joe, Pig and Mandy!
The music is really there to show something is completely off between reality and the rationalization and delusions made for example by someone who is in late stage alcoholism, or more generally psychologically in denial even though they act like they know exactly what they're doing. That movie is as amazing as it was sad and depressing.
And just think, 3 years after this Nic won an Oscar. Nic is the only reason this movie has not fallen into obscurity. The RU-vid compilations of his scenes from this are pure gold. And Michael Biehn, who was so great in all his James Cameron movies, is really bland in this and loses any star power he had in those movies. Biehn needed to fire his agent at this time. The actors and are lit horribly, the costumes are bad (other than Nic’s which is kind of awesome), and the sets seem like they were left over from a stage play. Man, this movie is bad.
Interesting review. I watched this last year and didn't really enjoy it but I think I've missed some things you mentioned. Will rewatch when I'm finished with the other cage films
LOL the theme song was epic! I've never watched much Nicholas Cage movies, I think its now a must! Could you review Manjummel Boys, I'm interested in your take, if you review such filmography
