I liked Schumacher's movie better than Walker's script. Walker has Machine wearing a Mexican wrestling mask in the script. I'm not even kidding. And I think the choice of music was intended to paint Hollywood as foreign, disturbing, mysterious, and alien. It makes sense because people are familiar with Hollywood. It's not an unknown for people, so Schumacher was trying to subvert this quality and turn something known into something which is unknown.
Agreed. I liked it. Really love the Dino Velvet character. Would love a prequel to 8mm just to spend more time with Peter Stormare. I didn’t see him as cartoony, more of a megalomaniacal Shakespearean snuff director who kayfabed a gimmick befitting of his reputation as hardcore kingpen
I haven't seen Hardcore, but I read a lot about it in Tarantino's film book Cinema Speculation. I did see 8mm years and years ago, must watch it again.
I remember seeing this in the cinema back in the day, and it was sold as being this shocking movie about the secret super dangerous porn underworld. The two things i remember the most is one, the music which is just terrible. And two how much they wanted to shock with the machine being a normal dude. So much so he himself literally says it. They had all the opportunities to make a really good thriller, but botched it completely.
I think it fits. Gives the feel of Middle East market vibes in which one could find anything from a drugs to under age escorts to whatever else one might desire
I bought a DVD copy of this at Goodwill for $2.50. I didn't like it but for $2.50 for a good cause I really can't complain. I'm donating the DVD back to Goodwill and hope the next person who buys it, enjoys it and resonates it. Peace ✌️
