Well-grounded in the Swedish tradition of advanced innovation, functionality and quality, Tormek has developed a unique sharpening system that has come to set a standard in modern edge tool sharpening.
Since the start, problem solving through innovation is a strong driving force for Tormek. Today Tormek holds close to 20 patents and is a leading brand within sharpening of edge tools, offering a complete system including jigs and attachments, each one specially designed to easily achieve the optimal sharpness on all kinds of hand tools.
Through selected importing partners, Tormek exports to over 30 countries worldwide. The products are appreciated by cabinet makers, carpenters, woodcarvers and woodturners as well as serious chefs in restaurants, industrial kitchens and households. The Tormek sharpening system is also used in professional sharpening businesses.
Just ordered mine today, this is a game changer!! I jump between two stones and a honing wheel with lots of measuring and time lost. Thank you for this!!
I always thought the old jig left room for improvement. It alway did a good enough job, but I am excited fo see what I can do with the AX-40. Mine should arrive in a couple days.
It seems that quite a few people are worried about deflection of the support or uneven wheel surface, these issues are easily addressed. I bought a T8 used from eBay with a few jigs and recently I found (lastly) the DBS-22 used again in eBay. The difference between free hand and the Tormek is night and day, the same applies to knives, chisels that I've done. I don't want to be a specialist sharpener, I just want my tools to cut properly and go on with my job at hand. The system is not fast but it is unparalleled in flexibility, precision (for the money and time invested) and durability. There is a learning curve but it is not that steep. Remember that precision results are extremely difficult to achieve by hand and there are so many tools that are actually pretty much knives. Last, you buy a Tormek system to use itfor life, it cannot be cheap or cheaply made. The fact that you can gradually buy all the jigs is very good.
My jig just arrived, will give it a run tomorrow. As an aside question, Where can I get a Tormek T-shirt or Polo in the United States. Cannot find them anyplace.
We hope you like the new AX-40 Axe Jig ? About the T-Shirts: Those are unfortunately not available for purchase in the US. We do only sell them at our concept store in Lindesberg, Sweden.
HUGE let down with this new axe jig. It doesn’t fit my Granfors maul or my Muller Biber maul. Why design a new Axe Jig but limit its capability? It appears like you limited the screw length to accept wider axes, why? You spent only 30 seconds (28:45) glancing over the limitations of the jig, actually showing the limitations with a axe would have been better. People are going to buy this jig and be pissed when they find out it doesn’t fit their mauls. Or they’re going to modify the jig and put longer screws in…..
How about a better short tool jig for my japanese chisels that work on the side of my diamond stone....now THAT would be an improvement!! Guess I am back to my shapton stones till then... *crys*
Hi Ryan! As we mention in the episode we are always looking for ways to improve all the components of the sharpening system based on our users' needs. Please share your problem with the SVS-38 Short Tool Jig with us via support@tormek.se and we'll do our best to help you. Stay sharp!
Now that _is_ nice. I usually freehand chisels' and planes' working edges, but still a pity something as foolproof can't devised in place of the anglemaster, which always seems a bit woolly 'round the edges.
Most of our german retailers should have it in stock 😊 Contact your favorite retailer and they should be able to help you! We are updating our product page with direct links to the retailers web shops as soon as we are notified by them. But if you can't wait, you can search for "AX-40 Vorrichtung für Äxte" on Google to find a couple of web shops. Good luck and stay sharp!
I notice that in your demonstration the arm showing the angle moves very freely. I recently received mine and the arm does not move unless physically moved. I will need to try and loosen the hex nuts at the top and bottom in hopes that mine will work as it is meant to.
I used this model when in school as a cabinet maker. Absolute joy to use and I can't wait until I can afford to buy one for myself (which I hope happens in the next 1-2 years). Until then I have to settle with a Scheppach as I need a wet grinder (I've spotted small nicks on my chisels and they need to be fixed), but I'll definitely run all tools over the Tormek T8 when I get myself one, as I don't believe any other brand can offer the same level of quality sharpening. As a cabinet maker who primarily work with hand tools and thus use _a lot_ of blades, the Tormek T8 is *the* wet grinder to get. It's definitely worth every penny
hi, have you ever seen various violin making knives? They are shorter and smaller, any of your jig doesn't help to sharpen. 99% violin maker have Tormek but we do sharpening free hand with tormek. Please google violin making & repair knife in Google and invent some jig. I guess much smaller KJ-56 will work for our knives. SVM-00 also doesn't help.
Tormek has never invented a jig for violin making and repair knife. 98% of violin makers have Tormek but this company doesn’t effort the customer in our field.. I can do my violin knife sharpening only with free hand.
Hello folks. Hopefully someone will get this message. The small knife jig doesn't work well with knives which have a rectangular shaped handle. It's very difficult to seat it securely in the jig. Any suggestions?
I have found out the answers to most of my questions by reading through the comments and because you actually answer peoples questions👍, shame about the couple of uncalled for rude ones (some people smh) anyway I have made up my mind to bite the bullet and go for the T8 with all the bells and whistles ! I know its going to cost me at least £2000 but I have so many things this set up would help me achieve, I have been looking at your products over the last few years and finally in a few months I will have the money. I have always bought the best tools I could afford throughout my life and I'm pretty sure a T8 will fit in just nice with them. Perfect😉
Nice machine, but it's too slow for real work. Really good for people who don't want to learn how to sharpen various tooling and cutting edges in an efficient way.
On the Tormek T-4 with the MB-102 and the standard support bar I cannot position the KS-123 like shown at 15:27 because the leather wheel is closer and the snapping part alignes directly with the threaded section of the aupport bar. Any Ideas to work around this? I really would have liked it for honing also.
I bought a tormeck over at least 20 some years ago and it still works great today but you have made some very nice improvements especially in some of the holders and the knife angle gauge im going to get because the original one I got with my machine I dont really use because its easier to just eyeball the angle.
