Check out my Custom Lure Painting Log Book If you are new to lure painting this is probably one of the best tools you can have. When I first started painting fishing lures I was so excited that I jumped in and started painting lure blanks without even thinking I may have to reproduce that lure again. Now a year later I wished I had this log book back then, because after painting a couple hundred lures sometimes remembering the colors I used, or where I even ordered the blank from became a problem.

Thanks for Watching! "Stay Crusty" Ron G. admin@crustycranks.com
Just took the Crusty Cranks stencil seminar today (7-13). Thourly enjoyed my time with Ron. Best money I have spent in a long time! Learned a lot and the attention given by him was superb. If you get the chance take this class you won't be sorry.
Thanks Tim it was a pleasure meeting and working with you! Can't wait to see some of your work be sure to email me some pics. Thanks again for your support.
I also try to be careful of paint chunks. It only takes something the size of a grain of sand to plug the tip. The technical term for them is called paint goobers. OK, I just made that up Nice bait. Relatively simple. I’ve used multiple different kinds of clips to hold the mesh. I prefer the ones like you show. They don’t scratch the paint like alligator clips do.
Made those laminated with a orange recipe I have. Gave a few to my friend they came in 3rd place out of almost 600 boats. He liked em to say the least😂. Ended up trading me a finished granite top for my bathroom sink for a few packs.
Excellent video. Thanks for showing us how to do this. I look forward to trying this. Which DeadOn Plastix do you recommend for making stick baits? Red Label or others? Medium or Soft? Thanks.
I usually use the worm blend white label, I have mixed 50/50 worm blend and swimbait blend for a little firmer and slightly faster sink. Glad you liked the video Thanks for Watching!
When it comes to the Megabass 110, I'd love to see you tackle the "AKA TORA" (Red Tiger). During the last tournament we threw every color under the sun, and the only bait that caught fish was the Aka Tora. As a beginning painter, I'm just a little insecure about choosing the right colors and sequence, and nobody else on youtube has tried it. Thanks for considering my request. Enjoy your site!
Funny you mention that your like the 3rd person to ask me to paint that lure, it is a cool looking bait so stay tuned I'll give it a shot. Thanks for Watching!
@@CrustyCranks Dear Santa, I just found out that CrustyCranks is going to show us how to paint a Megabass 110 the "AKA TORA" (Red Tiger) pattern... so you can scratch the "New Pickup" off this year's wish-list. After all, the list was a little long, and besides, CrustyCrank's gift will probably come before Christmas anyway! :)
Just subscribed awesome looking bait crusty is there any chance I could get the size of the stencil you used thank you for your time and video awesome job
Not sure what you mean by size but you can always check out my stencil site at Lurestencils.com This particular one fits a 6.5" deep diver. I size all my stencils according to the blank size. Hope that helps
Great video, plan on building some similar. Just wondering if it’s necessary to use the bottom 3” coupler? Seems like you could just use a piece of 2” pipe on the bottom cut to your desired length with a test cap on the bottom. Only benefit to the 3” coupler I can see is a little more stable base.
It creates an air chamber so you get a more even flow of air coming up through the paper filter. Also allows you to control the air pressure with the air valve.
@@CrustyCranks I get that but I believe you can eliminate the most expensive piece, the 3” long coupler, and still get the same results. I can see the double wall may help to secure the regulator valve but if not that could just be a straight piece of 2” with a test cap on the bottom and paper filter on top, then short coupler with another piece of 2” on top for the medium basin.
Took Ron's stencil class this past Saturday and was lucky enough to be able to do a 1 on 1 with him. The class very informative and let's his years in the digital printing field really shine. Do yourself a favor and save time and material while straightening out the learning curve. Thanks again Ron.
I’m been thinking about starting a business making lures and I was wondering if it would be better to do made to order lures with no specific colors just what ever the customer wants or to just pre make lures to sell or should I do a mix of both
FWIW….I have and mainly use a HP-CS but recently got a Creos 771. The Creos has a .18 needle and shoots a LOT less air and velocity which is great for stencil and detail work. Creos makes another model (289 maybe, not sure) that also has the .18 but is less than half the cost of the 771. You are correct that the color description of the color shift paint you used is not what the end result turns out. It is very green. Just used some last night. Nice bait. Appreciate the tips
Love your work! I've got that exact mold, but haven't used it yet. You definately gave me the gumption to start using mine. Not gonna lie, seeing you pour that last one made me jump a bit seeing as you were wearing flip flops. I'm sure you're safe, but the camera angle made me take pause. LOL! I've had some pours splatter on clothing before so I've been there brother. Be well!
Love the colors, Excellent job, I see your stencil work, we don’t have Musky|Pike down here but I like their pattern, could you do a stencil like that on a jerkbait, I’m interested, Thanks
Very Nice Paint Work, I’m a new subscriber, I started painting crankbaits last year September’23 as a new hobby, I’m 65 and retired in Louisiana, I’ll be watching your older videos, Thanks for What You Do, I’m interested in your cricut stencils, you have some nice designs
Welcome to the Channel! I hope you find a lot of inspirations, some of the quality of the older videos I'm not proud of but I'm always trying to improve. Thanks for your Support!
Like your work I have the same mold can you explain how to pick the beads and clevis and blades I have poured a flew but I'm stuck thanks for sharing I'm a fan
Most all the parts can be found on LurePartsOnline or Barlows Tackle, I like to buy assortment packs of beads and blades that way I can play around with them till I get what I like. You can also get beads at walmart. As far as clevis you just need to make sure they fit on the diameter of wire your using most all the parts are pretty cheap it's always the shipping that usually drives the cost up. Hope that helps. Thanks for Watching!
Haven’t used the aluminum but I’ve used Createx Autoborn Silver Sealer. It is the brightest most reflective I’ve seen. You can use 2 parts sealer to 1 part Candy2O Tequila Yellow and it will make the most vibrant gold you can get IMO you are correct that reducer works better than water.
Love your channel! I would love to take your workshop. Unfortunately i can't do the April 20th one,Hopefully you do more throughout the next few months
I plan to do one a month I didn't do one in March because I had 2 vendor events, If you email me a good date for you I'll set one up. So far we have had positive feedback from everyone that has taken the workshop and are now making and creating their own designs. Thank you for your support!
I have not seen them run but my customer loves them. I plan to finish my boat in the next couple months so I can get out on the water and fish with all the baits and of course I'll record it. Thanks for your support!
At video even though im not that computer smart😂.The cricuts the easy part as i have one of those. The stencils i ordered are great and look forward to the shad and minnow ones if you do them.
Thank You, you should consider taking my stencil workshop I can help you make your own stencils and designs. I take you through all the steps until you got it down. I'm getting the Flicker shads and minnows up real soon! Thanks again for your Support!
@uncleloy6803. I took the stencil class this past Saturday, 4 to 8pm.time slot. Best time....classes are smaller. I was lucky enough enough to get a 1on1 instruction. I'm 69 yes. old..don't possess the greatest of computer skills, but we got hooked up and things went fine. You don't need any subscription programs like he mentioned. I downloaded the Cricut program from the website and also used the free Inkscape. Like he said, Ron uses the Adobe, but worked with me on the Inkscape. He's very thorough with his presentation and has the answer to any question you might have...so don't be afraid to ask. His many years in digital printing really shines. Time for me well spent. Will save you a lot of frustration (and vinyl) over trying do this yourself. Hope you 2 can meet and have fun.
@@ThomasOchs Thanks Tom it was Great getting to work with you. I look forward to seeing more of your work as you progress with your stencil building skills! Thanks again for your support!
Yes I do! I teach 4 hour workshops on cutting/designing your own stencils. These workshops are way more involved then what we can do in a video. If you want to learn how to take your stencils to the next level I encourage you to take one of the workshops. You can sign-up on lurestencils.com so far we have had 16 people take the workshops and now their creating some awesome stencils. Also if you take the workshop you get my stencils for free every time I create new ones.
