The presentation is great but all the Chinese names and badly pronounced . I suggest a little research on pronunciation should be implemented ( google translate could easily help )
... too fast for the human eye to see? I went to horse races as a kid, and watched them gallop; it's not hard to see that they briefly have all 4 legs up at the same time. I'm willing to grant that maybe my eyes are just a little bit better than average at tracking fast-moving things, but I have a hard time believing that, for as long as horses have been domesticated, no one knew how their legs moved until just a couple centuries ago.
郎世宁(Castiglione)is actually kinda a household name in China, even to those who are not particularly well versed in the history of art or of Christianity in China. His portraits of the Qing emperors are found in many versions of public highschool history text books today, often with the artist's name displayed next to them. 郎世宁 is well known as an European court painter whose work combines the western oil painting skills and perspective knowledge with traditional Chinese culture elements. I even remember seeing his character in several Chinese historical dramas of the 1990s. Sadly for the Jesuit himself, it turned out the shrewd Manchu emperors, who had almost zero interest in Christianity, exploited his extraordinary artistic talent for his entire life.
This was very good thank you. It reminds me of the interesting contrasts... one group leaving behind their traditions for the sake of modernity and trade... another group of artist attempting to leave behind modernity to discover lost traditions... both falling short
I've questioned and wondered about this for quite some time. As the Islamic Caliphates swept through the Levant to the west and Mesopotamian to the east, they incorporated many cultural and artistic elements from the conquered great civilizations, particularly Romans and Persian, synthesizing it into new distinct forms of Islamic culture and arts. But in its development it's leaning more into the Persian sphere of influence, notably since the Abbasids period onwards which sparks the Persian revival until it (Persian Influences) spreads reaching almost any Islamic World. Even dominating in the era of great pre-modern Islamic powers of the Ottomans, Safavid, Mughal, and many others. The Persian cultural influences are inseparable to many dynasties and great Islamic civilization. But what if, instead of leaning towards the eastern sphere they shifted into the west (the Roman), developing the cultural and arts from the conquered bases in the Levant, Syria, Anatolia, and Egypt. And when I just wandered around in fantasy, I was reminded about the Umayyads. Among the early great caliphates that have quite a short time span, often shadowed by the righteous Rashidun and golden age of Abbasids. And when I tried to find more about their cultural and artistic sides, I found your video
Depends on what you define as "modesty"? As well as why you place importantance on it. Is it the nakedness? Sexual openess? And why would someone learning Christian shame and standards be seen as progression?
@@FudgeYeahAmerica you misinterpret me bro. If we go to polynesia now, its basiclly nothing like a Gauguin painting. Corn syrup is well established there. There must have been a point when the big chiefs realised letting their daughters ride a euro cock carosel isnt a good idea, and there must have been a point when they decided to invest in wearing pants. There must be a diary entry of a sailor late to the party, all the polynesians are wearing Karl Largerfield designer goods and they are no longer putting out. There is probably a mention of a missionary standing by a bush near by saying 'heheheh... heh!' running his Christian claws together.
If you build it, they will come. Keep up the great work. The algorithm will discover you one day and you will get the recognition these videos deserve.
