I recently installed a K&K in a D18. I've been struggling with creating a good sound. One of the issues I'm having is pick noise. Another is balanced output of the strings. Many people rave about the K&K but I don't think I would recommend.
cc8 has better sound for me, but needs a good HiFi to detect the difference - as you might expect. Would be happy with either though! Would imagine any hiss could be coming from the H4n?
WTF? If you’re trying to teach something, don’t you think you ought to start with a basic standard tuning that everyone plays in? This sounds quite nice but has little application in this odd tuning
Hi, thanks for the feedback! It’s the concept that I’m teaching here, rather than the actual notes. It shouldn’t really matter what tuning I’m playing, you can apply this to any tuning. But I do hear you, and I do always appreciate any feedback so I’ll take this into consideration for my next video. Thanks!
Thanks...interesting. that was inspiring. i think the Neumann was a tad warmer in the high end. I just bought a zoom 6 they have slightly bigger mics. Just getting started. Peace ✌
how would you go about adding a mic on stage to a K&K mini style pickup (got an alternative but its similar) I do have an aanthem but using it in something else atm and trying to make a new pickup system as an experiment.
Hey Fabian. This stream helped so much. Ive had this little tune in my head for ages, just humming it. Picking it out for the melody line and then building the song around that was super helpful! You’ve helped me get my brain to the strings! 😂
How does the H4 Essential compare to the H4N Pro? Is it worth the upgrade for "better sound" and maybe more headroom? I really struggle with getting good guitar tone for my solos (check my site if you have time to see what I mean!). I use the H4N but get rather thin sound for some reason. Thanks.
I like delay reverb and an eq on my rig- also a preamp is handy- one that had a couple features for cleaning up the piezo tone. Its mainly to add ambience and some spice to the sound if needed. A looper can be fun also but im still looking for the one that suits me most. I prefer a simple setup so i can focus on the song expression
Have you tried taking a single out from the Radial, going into Paraeq, then into Lehle pedal. Keeping the dry signal as your FOH clean chain, but the 'wet' output from the Lehle with swells to your FX chain? I only say this because you get to have both paths EQ'd by the Empress.
Hi Fabian, thanks for the stream. I have been really enjoying your content and trying to make some content my self. I like you love using one mic to record guitar and vocals, I have been using just a cheap dynamic mic but recently somone gave me a Lauten clarion, I know insane. Interestingly enough, the quality of sound isn't massively improved. My question is, should I pay more attention to the room, post eq or is it the fact that I am using a budget interface that is making the difference. Or are we all being duped into thinking mics make a huge difference? Again, really enjoying your content
Hi, thanks so much for your comment. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my videos and getting inspiration. Oh wow you got given a Lauten, amazing!! That interesting that the quality isn’t massively improved. Are you recording vocals and guitar with one mic? And was it the same setup with the dynamic? Because they’re very different types of mics I would have thought there would be a very obvious difference! What are you using to monitor the recording on? Budget preamps are fine if you’re just doing recordings for RU-vid for example (although you might struggle to get enough gain in some cases and they might be a little noisy) but higher end preamps shine when it comes to the detailed stuff, those quiet intricate moments it can really bring out the best in a mic. Definitely pay attention to the room, I’m all about the pre recording setup, I try not to do too much post recording. Have you played around with different positions when using the mic?
Thank you for the relevant content you've put online. I just subscribed ! I was wondering if you think you could make your setup work with another volume pedal ? Would it work even if it wasn't an active pedal ? In other words, I'd like to know what are the input and output you're using with the Lehle volume pedal :)
Hi, thanks for the tip! Yeah you’re right, I should do more standard tuning stuff! Or at least a few examples in standard. Especially for videos that don’t need to be in an alternate tuning 👍
lol, here for that alt tuning goodness. If you’re looking for standard tuning videos - the internet has got plenty of that. What’s the point of dishing on someone’s specific style or technique.
Great lesson! I will say that it never hurts to learn covers too, especially crowd pleasers that draw people in if you are playing live. If they don’t know your own voice you really must engage them another way, or maybe make those covers your own if you have them good enough. For writing though, this is a great lesson indeed. Dynamics are so important, and you did a great job of demonstrating both in concept and example. I’m adding to my own practice regimen to be much more mindful of it.
Hi, thanks for the comment! Glad you liked the video! Oh yeah absolutely, covers are always good and definitely putting your own spin on them is a good way to go. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊👍
Hey Fabian ! You have an amazing feel just noodling around. You're explaining the circuit very well, but I'm new to expression pedals and preamps. I was wondering what you where doing with the 2 outputs you get. Do you connect those on 2 différent channels on the PA console when you play live ?
I would say my strongest suite is finger style, so I did t think I would get much from this lesson, but your fingers are more focused and directed than mine, I love the way you let the g string ring out , I’m going to work on it , and it occurs to me that , the thumb and finger method would be good to work on keeping time in finger style, which I’ve been meaning to ask you about on the live feed… I find it a lot of fun to use the thumb and finger method to cover songs, but I don’t feel like I’m directing my fingers, like on auto pilot, but the problem is I hit a bump every once in a while , I can less it off, because it just falls in to the mud and still sounds ok , but I know it’s a bad note. Being more directed and intentional, that’s what I need to work on.
Hey Roy, yeah trying being more intentional really helps, sometimes the right hand just does its own thing which is fine if you want it to do that but having more control and being more intentional is definitely a good thing 😊👍
