"Stick around for the last one" was kind of ironic, because I ended up here when I was searching why my H4n Pro suddenly became so sticky. There's something wrong with the rubber coating. 😞

Hi, oh sorry to hear that, how long have you had it for? So far I haven’t experienced anything like that with mine!

@@FabianHollandGuitar The Pro model was pretty new, so must have been around 2016/2017. Didn't use it much. But after viewing some tips, some isopropyl alcohol cleaned it right up! Completely got rid of the rubber coating, so it is just a tad bit more 'slippery', but it looks brand new! Free on-the-side tip (maybe you covered it already). If you don't need it, don't use large capacity SD cards. I had a 128 GB one in mine and it took forever to start up. I exchanged it for a few 8 GB ones and it is now WAY faster in starting up!

I bought one of these several years ago, but my wife commandeered it to make training audios for her business. I bought a used one this year, and I'm getting back into using it. It's in great shape, but a little scuffed. These things are built like tanks. I also have a Q3, which includes a video camera. Great box, though support is discontinued.

Oh yeah I love these little things! Tascam and Sony also make some good ones as well. I wish that I took mine outside and did some outside recordings more though, this is where they can really shine! This is one of my goals that I’m trying to do more of.

Fabian, question. Do you use a preamp for your mics? And if so- for both dynamic and condenser mics? Specific brands? Thank you.
@FabianHollandGuitar
@FabianHollandGuitar 2 дня назад
Hey Jasper! Yeah I do, do you mean when going into the H4N Pro? I like to use the Triton Audio FetHead preamps, they give up to 25db of extra gain which is needed when using ribbon or sometimes dynamic mics. For condensers I go directly into the zoom, the preamps in there give me enough clean gain when using any condenser.

@@harpreetsinghmogaHi. Yes! There are loads of built in effects for guitar or voice on the H4n Pro - and you get the effect while recording so you know exactly what the sound will be like once recorded if you monitor yourself with some decent headphones. The Zoom H4n is basically a mini recording studio you can put in your pocket! Superb bit of kit. You can even normalize your recording, punch in and out... there is an onboard tuner and metronome as well - and it works great as an audio interface too. Seriously, for the money they are absolutely amazing! There's way more to them than you imagine. Highly recommended tool to have in your music making arsenal!

Hello from Poland👋🏻 Few months ago I just started recording some covers on my instagram music account, it's going well, but I feel that the sound quality is lacking. So far, I've just recorded with my iPhone, sound and image. I have just iphone 14pro, martin d10e, and my voice. I want to buy something like zoom to record. I can sing and play quite well I think, but I'm completely amateur in recording. I want to start a RU-vid channel with my covers and original song, but i need some better sound quality than smartphone microphone. Do you think zoom is enough for the start? Do I need something more to good record, at the moment? Thanks 😊
@FabianHollandGuitar
@FabianHollandGuitar 3 месяца назад
Hi there! Thanks for the question. Are you singing as well as playing guitar? The zoom is great for both but the mics on board the H4N Pro are very directional, meaning they’re not the best at picking up sound from a wide space. Covers on RU-vid is a great idea by the way 😉👍

Hey man ive been thinking of getting this mic just a few questions. I dont have a laptop so i would only be using this h4n pro device, headphones, my samsung s20 fe phone, power bank, watever usb splitter you recommend. I want to use bandlab daw on my phone to record on the go anywhere possible release some singles, i also have a sm57 instrumental mic, is there any way to monitor from the phone (not the h4n) so i can record and monitor and hear the effected, eq, and watever i put in the daw directly through headphone (keep in mind that I dont have a headphone jack on my phone. What do you think of this setup idea.
@FabianHollandGuitar
@FabianHollandGuitar 4 месяца назад
Hey man, yeah that sounds like a nice portable setup for sure! 👍 I don’t think there’s a way to monitor from your phone whilst the H4N is connected, at least I wasn’t able to find a way. I wonder if there’s a way to monitor via the H4N and still have your effects and EQ come through from your DAW? I don’t know if there’s a way to do it from the phone or DAW? I’m not sure about that? How important is it for you to be able to monitor from your DAW? I would also consider monitoring just from the H4N, it might make it easier sometimes, also you can still record the audio directly onto the H4N’s SD Card and record the video on your phone and put them together with a simple video editing app.

Fabian… in your opinion… recording vocals and Martin D42 at the same time. (Single mic) BEST MIC?
@FabianHollandGuitar
@FabianHollandGuitar 4 месяца назад
Hey Jasper! It depends on what sound you’re after? If you’re looking for a warm vintage sound then maybe a ribbon mic would be best, I love the sound of a Coles Ribbon Mics or the Royer Labs Ribbons. But if you’re after a sound that is pure, clear and direct then maybe a large diaphragm would be better. Something like the AKG C414 or the Neumann TLM 107 or the Austrian Audio Oc818.

Thanks, you have been very helpful. I am searching for the very first recording device for my daughter. Something relative easy to operate with. She's playing a classical guitar for nine years now and just won a national and international competition this year. Everything become much more serious and we realize we need also sth more serious for recording, couse phone audio sounds really bad. This Zoom model is apparently 12 years old but for a reasonably price now as there are new models out. Do you think it would be still usable for a few years as everything in digital world is becoming outdated so quick? I am also wondering if we also need a stand and what stand are you using? Wish you a lot of success in your music. You play and sing so wonderful. 🤩👌 Thanks for everything.
@FabianHollandGuitar
@FabianHollandGuitar 3 месяца назад
Hi thanks for the question! Sorry for the late reply, it usually takes me a while to get through all my comments. Yeah absolutely, this would be perfect I think!! The good thing is you don’t have to rely on a computer for this. The onboard mics are still great a will be for a long time. Microphones don’t really get outdated in the same way other tech does. I’m just using a mic stand and then using an adapter that fits to the Zoom. I would say that if you’re planning on creating videos then bear in mind that the HN4 is quite big and might not be aesthetically pleasing as say a small condenser mic, but you do always have the option of plugging in external mics into the recorder if you wish to do that at some point. Hope that helps?

Thanks so much. Really appreciate your review. Love your playing as well. Question: I"ve done a lot of research on these and it seems the H4npro has two different bodies. The one you are using doesn't look like the one I've been seeing, which seems to have a plastic body. I can only find the one you are using used on Ebay. Hi, thanks for the question!! I’ve only seen the H4N Pro Black version and the “normal” version is the one I have. As far as I’m aware the only difference is the colour but I could be wrong! I use the Reverb on my DAW not on the Zoom. I don’t find the effects to be particularly good on the Zoom but that’s not what I use it for. Adding the effects after in the DAW is a lot easier than trying to do it directly in the zoom.
