apparently an even rarer event happened back in the art fleming days, where all 3 contestants had nothing to wager for final jeopardy, so they just didnt even do it at all. the show's producers decided if that ever happened again, they'd still "play" it, just so the viewers at home could guess themselves.
I used to go to so many tapings of this show at Metromedia Square in Hollywood. They taped it in the same studio as Truth or Consequences. Then, I would drive down the street to the ABC Vine Street Theater for a taping of Password or Split Second. I loved hanging out at the studios watching game shows as a teenager. Since that time, I've been a contestant on five different shows, including Classic Concentration, most recently (2023) as a Showcase winner on The Price is Right. Fun!
I remember when this first aired, my wife and I both went "That wouldn't be Vancouver would it?" We both kept thinking Vancouver BC is on the border.... We live in Washington State!
Frankly, this wasn't a smart wager. If he misses he's out of the game. He could have wagered 10,000 and have accomplished the same goal while also still having a chance if he got it wrong. Of course, the answer was essentially just guessing the most. prominent Canadian western city
Even if the category was "my house" I wouldn't bet more than 50 bucks. But this would I have gotten because Vancouver is the only Canadian city I know of on the West Coast.
