Grow Pura Vida, previously Osho Bodhisattva Meditation Garden, is a tropical fruit and gardening/farming project that spans from South Florida (10b) to Southern Costa Rica (Perez Zeledon area). We promote organic and biodynamic farming and gardening practices, microbial soil and gut health (they are very similar in nature!), growing your own food, listening to the plants' needs instead of imposing our needs on them, biological pest and weed controls rather than chemical controls, and living in accordance with natural cycles. We do lots of rare fruit tastings and tastings of improved non-GMO varieties of fruits that have outstanding characteristics in comparison with common or commercially grown fruit. We promote and enjoy special, rare flavors and farms with fruit diversity (as opposed to monoculture) and farmers who strive for better taste, not bigger size and volumes. Mango fanatics, we do lots of mango & rare fruit tastings for the channel.
zebeda mango is strictly for juicing in Egypt because it is fibrous and cheap, we also have a mango from india called Hindi, it is better than teymour and iwais, our best mango is the alfonse, we got a huge mango with green skin called bull's balls, it has tons of fibrousless juicy tangy meat and small seed, the only mango in the US that might measure up to egyptian mangoes is the hawaiian alfonse
Yes i tell in each video where the mangoes are from, Tropical Acres sell boxes online but there is a narrow window for each variety so you have to check in often.
I tried to graft a scion of white piri to one of my trees. It didn't catch sadly so I'm going to try again maybe next season. I'm going to let my trees do their thing for another season. Maha Chanok isn't that good of mango to me either. East Indian is very sweet mango with a lot of notes going on. I don't like the fibers within it though and I can't enjoy more than one becuase it gives me headaches lol
Agree East Indian is very rich but fibers come in between. Giselle and Harumanis/Aromanis were pretty close to that richness with no fibers. Do try to find them and taste once next season.
The mangos that look clean on the outside do not necessarily mean they are healthy. Mangos can have all sorts of extremely harmful chemicals sprayed onto them to make them look spotlessly clean and those will be the most unhealthy ones, very harmful to your body. But more majority of the humans looks are important in everything we choose in life, houses, cars, partners and i can go on. These mangos travelled from Florida to Missouri in a suitcase and stayed in an environment for ripening that i would not put them in FL. They developed spots because of that, the inside was tasty and good, and certainly very healthy. Health has nothing to do with looks, either in mangos or in humans. Amen!!
I can't imagine what would possess someone to be mean and nasty to a kind person like you making fruit-tasting videos. I've always loved your passion and enthusiasm, and I appreciate your sophisticated palate when it comes to mangos. I feel like I've learned a lot about the different varieties. There must be a lot of raccoons coming over from the park! (Do you have any mangos left on your trees?)
Thank you for your kind words John . It has been a very busy year with lots of traveling by air. I missed the west palm beach mango festival and many other tasting-gatherings due to my schedule. What new varieties of mangos have been your surprise favorites this year? There are a few Neelams still hanging or perhaps raccoons might have already gobbled them since i left. Off year for Honey kiss and M4 here, just had one M4 that i gave to Steve at Hidden Acres mango farm for tasting.
Well, it would be amazing to be your neighbor! It is very rewarding sharing mangoes. I sent 11 sweet tart mangoes from my tree to my mom (they are very good shipping mangoes!) and she was so very happy. I could freeze the extras and enjoy them frozen, but blessing someone who can’t grow them themselves is a wonderful thing.
I have ten Sonpari mango trees. It is ripe naturally, very nice aroma and taste. Its keepig quality is also good and size of fruit also good. No fiber mango. I am planting further more Sonpari mango trees.I am from Village Awakhal, Tehsil, Shinor, Dist: Vadodara, Gujarat state, India.
some people dont really like complex taste, with a hint of spices or some kind of medicine. have u tasted the super galila variety? try come to the philippines and experience the mango festival in guimaras island. still carabao is one of the best tasting mangoes in the world as it smells and tastes like authentic mango.
@@barrioboi14344 dude you completely misunderstand the term "complexity"! It's not the medicinal taste - who would like that? - and not even the spice. It's the same as complexity in wines; actually, good wine and good mango are very similar structurally. To understand what "complexity" really means, google this phrase: what-does-complexity-mean-in-wine. By the way, "authentic" mango is spicy - Indian varieties are the closest ones to it and are direct descendants, having lots of turpenes that make a mango spicy. South East Asian mangos have nothing to do with authenticity, they are just plain sweet and uninteresting. Try to come to Florida and taste 300 varieties, developed specifically for the complexity and uniqueness of their flavors. And try to watch old videos where he very carefully explains different flavors of many mangos sought after in the US and other countries, before pooping in comments.
@@growpuravida I really hope you keep making videos, they are very informative (you have very educated taste buds) and I can't imagine why you would restrict yourself to only reviewing your own mangos.
I live in Costa Rica and this year Iwas lucky enough to get a Giselle mango tree from Zill plantas, after watching a video on it. I wish we had more available varieties here IN CR.
My kind of breakfast: nice taste test. This is my first time hearing about White Piri and E Wais. The East Indian seems to have more fiber than what I've experienced over the years, even its shape and color. I like very sweet mangoes Thanks for sharing, Have a great weekend
My favorite Mango is sdikah, ewes and fas i also love "fjr clan" and yes over rip mango isn't that bad ... Also Egyptian mango will develop better taste when it rip on the tree ... So u had to come over to try it ..
@@growpuravida u always welcome to Egypt actually there is group i know that organized trips to Ismailia Governorate where the best mango in Egypt u could get .. i can connect you with them
The 2 one you had isn't zibdyah .. zibbdyiah should taste sweet sour and butter and creamy near the seed and spicy toward skin .. the green should be rough and dark green "what we call bule green" it should had very strong flavor and smell so we use it for juice also bland it with sokari mango in juice to get our ultimate manga juice...... i guess the one u had is baldi "local" wich mean any nice but unknown mango hyber they plant it alot because it help with Pollenitian
I had the opportunity to sample Taymour a few years ago, very good mango, and you are correct, it is longer and flatter than the one in this video, the seed was paper thin almost. similar to Nam Doc Mai (seed). I planted the seed and the tree is growing on some farm, been about 6 years don't think its fruited yet. but I don't live in that country anymore although I will be visiting the farm, so i will check up on the tree, I know seedlings don't come up true to parent so, no guarantee it will be any good,
I have heard about it being a very large size mango but never tried it. I have heard the taste is mild. In Florida they should be ready the same time as most of the mangos; early to mid July.
@@growpuravida have 3 huge ones on the tree now. They are huge. Got 3 last year very big also but fell off in June and the taste wasnt great. They are so big its almost comical. Thank you.
We have almost an acre food forest in a small city in central Florida with natural ground cover that brings great benefits but it violates city code. Have you ever had violations of city code with your natural ground cover food forest? If so, any thoughts on what to do?
Luckily we’re in unincorporated area of Miami-Dade. There is no HOA (consciously - we were looking for a non-HOA property), no city enforcement crawling around. As long as your trees don’t block the street view for the drivers, we’re in a good place. There was an old lady who was constantly complaining about uncut grass, but she disappeared somehow 😵💫 and we try to cut the small strip of grass in front of the gate whenever possible.
Julian Lara has Taymour mango. It is his absolute favorite mango. He mentioned that in a couple of occasions on youtube. Taymour happens to be a very late variety. It also grows as big as Keitt mango. It lasts until late October. It is a sweet tart tasting mango. It happens to be one of my favorite mangos. I used to live in Miami, but now I am in Kuwait. We get all kinds of imported mangos from all sound the workd.
The one i got for tasting and the one Tropical Acres mango farm sells is not Tymour. It looks more like Sukari or Succari. I guess Julian has the same variety that Tropical Acres has, both got from the USDA collection. But research says Tymour and Ewais have higher brix than Sukari, that is quite impressive since Sukari is already very sweet. For me the complexity of taste is more important than brix, after brix 18-20 its the complexity of the taste that stands out in excellent varieties. Here are my tastings of Succari/USDA Taimour: studio.ru-vid.comMuICHzwLQFU/edit Ewais: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0sF1AXtBEH8.html
What do you think of the flavor of Pettigrew mango? (if you've had it) I haven't tasted it but it appears to be the parent of the coconut flavor mangoes.
Thanks for bringing it up. Yes it is said it is another coconut flavored variety. I have never gotten opportunity to try it, perhaps Tropical Acres is the place where one could buy it for local pickup but since moving to CR it is difficult to coordinate pickups now.
I just did this and love the color after brushing off the ash and before applying the tung oil. I wonder if it would have been best to leave it charred on the inside where the soil will sit...
I did leave the ash on all sides with tung oil. It helps to preserve the ash as a solid, very strong. Try one piece and see if you like it. I’m very happy with the tung oil strength, it doesn’t fade or peel off, very strong
