@inyourpoolbusiness
@inyourpoolbusiness Месяц назад
I rarely use the tool, it is a bit tricky to use correctly and takes some experience with it to use it properly. I had to modify mine to cut more material off by bending the cutting blade in more. Sometimes I remove the key and shorten the shaft so I can use it in tighter areas. Having said all that I am glad I have it in my tool kit, Much better to pull this tool out then replumb a large PVC section. If you are in the business of repair work its a must have. For guys that do service every day with the occasional repair it's definitely not needed. The maker of the tool is a one man operation like myself, it took a very long time for him to ship me the tool after I ordered it because he hand makes them himself, took Iike 4 weeks so just a heads up on that. www.pipeparana.com/

My filters were recently cleaned. Now when the pump is running there is water dripping from the bottom not from the belly band. When off I can hear a hissing noise coming from the filter housing and when the filter kicks on there is a massive amount of air bubbles in the pool and my spillway won't work. My pool guy took out the drain plug when the filters were cleaned and there was a broken O ring. He "made an O ring" and I think it is not holding. What is your opinion ?
@dustylondon5207
@dustylondon5207 Месяц назад
Is that amount of air in the top of the pump strainer normal? I’m a new pool owner and we have air that builds up over time. Running the pump on high flushes it out but the air builds up over time when running on medium. Thanks!

My grandpa took over my dads company after he died and I've been working pools since i was 12. Went off and tried many other jobs after finding out my grandpa was cutting corners and over charging our customers and wasn't the guy i thought he was. He was never planning on letting me take it over because of my morality i had toward customers. I scolded him for cheating out customers and tainting my dads great family owned company and left. Now many years later I'm eager to scratch that itch of owning my own pool company because I know i can and know I would have made a great owner of my dads company. It's just a shame him and I couldn't do it together like he dreamed...

"Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn't, pays it." -Albert Einstein Below are the numbers behind the scenario you mentioned (starting at 18 doing $500/month vs starting at 50 doing $5K/month). $500/month into an S&P 500 Index Fund starting early (at age 18) would have grown to $5.5M by age 65.* $5K/month into an S&P 500 Index Fund starting late (at age 50) would have grown to $2M by age 65.* *Assuming historical market returns of 10%. The numbers above are mind-blowing in and of themselves, but to me the biggest takeaway is that the kid who started at 18 years old only contributed $282K over those 47 years of investing to arrive at $5.5M by age 65. That's to say that the vast majority of his wealth, ($5.2M) is strictly from growth/reinvested dividends! That's what Einstein was talking about! The old geezer that only started investing at 50 had to contribute over 3X as much as the 18 year old ($900K) to end up with less than half as much money ($2M) at 65 as the 18 year old. Better get started is right!

I see you don’t answer comments. But I have a valve that is over 20 years old. It is in a real bad place and tight piping to replace it. Do you think I could do a repair? I had two pros that never looked at it say to replace the valve. It is a three way valve that either bypasses or goes to a rooftop solar heater. When I shut the pump I get bad vibration noises from the valve??

Yes I am absolutely saying charge for your experience and expertise and I will not be shy about it. If you try to do that repair yourself you will have to research it for 45 minutes (as evidenced by you being here watching this video), it'll take you another 10-20 minutes to order the correct parts not to mention you bugging the parts supply shop with questions on how to do it properly, It will then take you another 30- 45 minutes to complete the repair and you'll still probably screw it up. I can do it in 5 minutes with my eyes closed and the parts are already on my truck. I absolutely have NO problem for charging for my experience and knowledge. People like you think that pool guys are just stupid and replaceable and not real professional contractors. People like you piss me off and I would have cancelled your service 5 years ago.

Got to say, people need to make money and charge base on their experience. There is a video providing how to make the repair, so if you want to do it yourself you can. He is being more than fair. The charge quoted for this repair was $75 service charge plus $20 for the o-rings. That seems reasonable, but if I want to save money then I can. It's not a rip off, if you charge to much, there are others that are willing to do it for less.

Excellent video. As a retired semiconductor equipment maintenance technician, I know I can pull off rebuilds like this. PMs are PMs and are important to maintaining any mechanical system. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with those of us that that are capable of taking on a task and saving some money. My three Jandy valves are weathered and grey and stiff to operate. I decided to buy one full rebuild kit ($25 for the handle, lock nut and faceplate w/ O-rings) and then two other o-ring kits. I have three J-valves in my system.

Thank you for sharing this. I am in the market for purchasing an established pool route after working in the equine industry for quite a few years to no great avail. What was your main way of marketing considering you were an owner operator ? I hear of plenty of guys in my region that are turning down business because they seem maxed out at 90-100 residential customers. Thanks in advance !
@inyourpoolbusiness
@inyourpoolbusiness 2 месяца назад
Glad you enjoyed it but I must say anyone turning down new clients because their route is full is stupid! They should be replacing their bottom 5% of crappy accounts (too far of a drive, too slow to repair equipment, won't trim the landscaping, whatever the reason) with new accounts coming on. It's a constantly revolving door. New clients come in at higher rates and crappy clients get cancelled because the newer, better client replaced them. If you do this your route will get better EVERY single year, your workload will get easier, your customers will get nicer, and your income will go up EVERY single year after year after year.

Good video. It's obvious the debris and condition of the o-ring was contributing to the water leaking. Having worked with high vacuum systems, I dealt with vacuum leaks and an o-ring's number one culprit with ANY type of leak (water, chemical or vacuum) is foreign material. The next is physical wear of the o-ring and/or its sealing surface. Clean the groove where the o-ring seats, use proper lube for the type of o-ring being installed, and replace with a NEW o-ring. They're generally pretty inexpensive, especially the widely used Viton o-rings (the black ones).

Good Afternoon, My friend and I recently launched a pool business here in Arizona, with our start date set for 5/6. At this point, we're eager to dive in but our only formal training so far has been a CPO course, taken in the hopes of gaining some foundational knowledge. As we wait for our business to officially launch, I'm essentially twiddling my thumbs, trying to stay productive in any way I can. If you'd be open to it, I'd love the opportunity to shadow you or assist you in any capacity, free of charge. Regardless of your response, I want to express my gratitude for the resources you've provided through your videos. They've been instrumental in our learning journey so far. Looking forward to hearing from you, and I hope you have a fantastic Wednesday!
