mother teresa is not perfect. Jesus Christ is the only perfect human and the only priest, aka the only mediator between humans and God, as He is 100% human and 100% God.

It depends on where your heart is and your background, just like some people leave nursing because of their lack of actually caring your not going to save the world but you can slow the growth of uselessness so big deal put on a helmet and get over it the world is changing😮

Do you think there is a need for male social workers? I am 34 and very successful in business. Sold my security company for 8 figures, i did so because i ended up hating it. I have ADHD and really want to help people, especially teenagers. Tbh i just want to help people

I’m starting to consider macro social work. I used to not be interested because in undergrad it used to announced as dealing with policy and procedures. And policy always sounded boring to me. But after watching more videos on it it’s an array of options you can do. And plus I agree with you, POCs need to be more involved in the change they want to see.

Hi Gabby! I am fairly new to Social Work. I worked as a case manager at a Homeless shelter for my internship, and I have worked as a Social Service Tech for about 9 months. My take on Social Work so far is can be a very fulfilling profession if you enjoy connecting people with resources. However, as others have suggested God did not design us to carry the burden of other people's problems all the time. We have to Help them without getting too personally involved. More importantly, we have to be on top of our Daily Self-Care game ( I do Yoga daily), and have a Good support system to Survive. If you top that with Good Leadership and Good Benefits @ the place where you work you can Thrive in the field of Social Work! Unfortunately, I have found quite a few people working in this field who Honestly don't care about people, and some don't even like people. Some only do it for the money because the entry-level Social Work jobs are Always Hiring in my area. Personally, I don't think you can be an effective Social Worker if you don't care about people or generally don't like people. After all, Social Work is a People Profession.

Hi Gabby! Thanks for these informations. I have been considering becoming a social worker because I just realized that it is my purpose as an empathetic and compassionate person. However, I had my bachelors degree in mathematics(something entirely different). Pls tell me how to navigate through this. Where do I begin? Thanks.

It's funny how all you social workers on here are complaining about burnout lol. Did you have any idea that ss is basically forced on parents with a disabled child? Your endless paperwork and meeting criteria has stressed me out as a mother more than you can possibly ever fathom. Apologize to my children for utterly exhausting their mother in the name of "social justice"! I don't want your services and your beurocracy and your stolen tax money from other people, but I can't say no because then you send people to investigate citing some kind of neglect for not soliciting the government and medical industry.

After 4 years in the field, I’m going back to school to change careers. I quit this field after not being able to afford the basics in life. A license doesn’t make a significant impact or difference. Getting a clinical license takes years. I might as well be a client for the benefits…

Hi. I am a 32-year-old software engineer, and I got accepted into an MSW program. I liked making software, but the goal of most software companies in my experience being simply making money has worn me down. I want to help people and give back to society. I understand that one person can't really make sweeping changes. However, I could see myself getting very discouraged if I observe systemic problems that I have no control over. What kinds changes in people/society were you able to make? I just want a job that I can look back on at the end of each day and feel like I did something good... Thanks.

Social work is not difficult from an intellectual point of view, it just necessitates more altruism than the average person has. So no, it's not difficult, it just doesn't constitute an actual profession from an economic point of view because you're not really providing a service. That's because you're helping your "clients", they don't pay for it. It's something that society does if people feel like being genurous with those in need that don't/can't produce. They are NOT clients because they cannot pay, that should be understood. IT's not work,it's pro bono thing given by the government or NGOs. Social work should not be compared with marketing, engineering or other professions, even teaching and healthcare. It's basically paid voluntering, so I think the problem is that you want to see it as a job or a profession when in reality it is not. Nobody wants to pay for those in need, that's the reality, and most people who participate in social work and make good money actually have good administration jobs in big NGOs that receive a lot of money from big corporations...which basically is mostly money laundering. The reality is that the pay will not increase because social work is not needed by those who have money to spend. It's just crumbs that fall from their tables, IF they want to give it.

If you are not a social worker! You must be a concern citizen to your environment! The country give you so much to live and survive! it is time to give back! A word of advice to improve not control and limit your time to each person you help as they are plenty of them to help. Division of your time! and public and private donation to build and hand out food security! The need for mental people to rehabilitate! The need for unemployed people to give their hands to help build housing with the help of professional.

Tbh, I do love helping people and in my experience growing up I already have a mini crowed of people telling me their issues (and boi they were umm a bit dark), I just wish I knew what to do or say to them though, so this is a good career for me grow into to understand more, plus if I get sad I got God that helps me have peace

I have many siblings and I am the eldest of a single mom. I was heavily relied on and invested in because no one else was there and I was expected to teach, invest in, and equip my siblings. I have been expected to perform well, do well, and clear the way for my family and I have always left places and to an extent people better than where I have found them. I think that is a direct result of how I was raised and it's a generational trauma that caused great fractures in my family because of the relationship every one of the eldest siblings has had with their younger siblings and parents for several generations back. One of resentment and codependency upwards and downwards. I am proud of my little brother for being independent of me, for the choices he makes, and the career he chooses. I have made sure he he doesn't feel the need to live up to me and that he doesn't have to feel the need to make me proud. I am working to make sure my mom finds a life outside of us, that she isn't so lonely and she can find worth beyond raising and investing in people. For me, I hope I can enjoy a community or two and make my shit-hole city a better place because I know there are kids like me out there and I know some of my siblings I couldn't save, protect, or nurture are out there too. I hope they can benefit from the work that I do even if it's just through degrees of relation. My city and situation has left me pissed off. As a kid, I was just smart enough to understand it but not strong enough to change it beyond my personal attitudes and behaviors. I believe if I have done the unlikely so many times while fighting for survival now that I am more stable, have built a network, and acquired more education I am interested to see what I can do and bound to change something. It would bother me if I didn't at least try. I have found home in too many assistance programs, thought in the means of growth and development too long, and invested too much of my self, time, effort, and philosophies not to try. I knew I had an issue with overworking myself, but I didn't realize why until I was reading a study on psychosocial development and the results paraphrased to "the children remember and they never forget" because I realized my entire life I have been driven forward by this purpose and need. I felt I have came to college and studied what I wanted of my own volition but I realized even then I was just trying to learn and develop so I could help others learn and develop. My life got slower after that. I started separating my success from my survival and I started to define and find myself outside of the context of my family, helping others and success. I have been coming to terms with that kind of predeterminism in my life and trying to decide what to do with my newfound free will on the matter because I am more aware of it so now I can actively choose. It has been pleasant learning to love and invest in myself as much as I love and invest in others. I know it has made me a more whole and rounded person. I never want to forget myself again but I know part of that is I will always know I am capable of doing great things for others and it would be a shame not to share that gift from the world. High hopes, consistent intentions, and learning to slow down and enjoy the world and my life have and I hope will still serve me well.
