I saw Peter Case perform a solo show at an Atlanta singer/songwriter club in the early 2000s. Toward the end of his set, he asked for requests and I called out “Oldest Story In The World”, only to be disappointed that he played several other songs instead. Afterwards he came out to the bar and was happy to chat with fans. I mentioned my request and he said, “Yeah I’m sorry about that, but I honestly don’t remember how to play that song.” I was really surprised and told him I thought it was his best song, and definitely one of my all time favorites. I’ll never know whether he just didn’t want to play it that night or decided to relearn it after. But I will treasure it forever because that song helped get me through some very tough high school and college relationships.
@@craiggeauxtreaux5862 I've been liking him a lot, but just heard this older minimalized material. just now heard some of his more recent stuff and WOW, the change is significant. He seems to be having alot of fun now versus being so serious (on the surface anyway). I really like him and his song with Amy Speace led me to her too. Another big win.. :)
Peter, P L E A S E reunite and bring back the California Hollywood Starwood magic. I saw you guys at Magic Mountain in '82 and '83, also at the Santa Clarita Brewing company in the late 80's. Miss you guys!
As Steve Earle once said, 'You just can't hate the song that put your kids through college'. 😁 I saw these guys live on the East Coast when we were all a lot younger and they sound damned near the same.
Your song writing dosnt match your age all I can imagine is you have listened to a lot of stories from lots of others . The mechanics of it is irrelevant . I saw you for the very 1st time on jools Holland play Satan and St Paul. I bought from the ground up and played it to death. Then I fell in love that lasted a year . I couldn't listen to that cd for well over a couple years . Every song on it hurt. . I don't hate you for that because it kind of welcomed me to a club I didn't know existed . Flowers in the backyard I force myself to not skip now because it is an amazing song.
So basically the crowd waits all night for this song and some 60 yr old loser who wants to relive his childhood dream of being anything other than what he is storms the stage and makes everyone watch him perform. What a selfish douche.
With recent events that have taken place in my life, this particular song resonates in a different manner than previously. I long loved the song for the message, now I have to apply it to real life. We all need help sometimes..
Best song to lisyen to after a breakup haha. I love this version live. Thank you for posting this. I was in this bar when they were asked. Like fur sure totally. They so terpindicular ya know.
Had you not been inside I would've thought it was quite windy when you recorded this. Lol. This is one of my favorite Peter Case tunes though so I have to love it.
Except for one show with the Plimsouls I don't think I have seen Peter in a band context like this. Of course, had I not lived in places like NYC and San Francisco chances are good I would've never seen him at all. It was sort of a fluke that we found out about the small show in Denver last year. Was still great though.
