My two worlds come together here to support each other, feed each other and inspire each other. They are Yin Yoga, and Chinese Medicine. My journey to become a Doctor of Chinese Medicine has been like climbing an amazing but enormous moutain! I have spent many years studying Anatomy and Physiology, both at Latrobe University and Southern School of Natural Therapies. I completed my B.A of Health Sciences degree in 2019; Chinese Medicine major, and now offer acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments in my clinic space at The Australian Yoga Academy, Prahran.
Yin Yoga is my other love. I believe in its' healing potential for the body and the mind. I teach public classes as well as run my own 50hr Yin Yoga trainings.
"Cricket"...this sugar bowl squatty pose made me think Cricket, Cricket...Really enjoying spending time practicing with you! You'll be seeing more of me in the future! I'm halfway 'round the world, so that's cyberspeakin'🤩
Is there anything I can do to prevent the dizziness and little neck discomfort. Anytime I lay flat with no neck support I seem to get dizzy and neck discomfort not sure how to work around it lol
@@DrKarinaSmith They didn’t find anything but it is super hard on that area and causes me migraines so I try to be easy on my exercises but I manage lol but I want to do more but the dizziness and neck thing scare me because if I do something wrong I pay for it later with a migraine. I really want to do more than I can right now.
@@virginaiachance8324 If you prop your head a certain way when laying flat does this prevent issues? If so, just take that prop with you to class and whenever you are laying flat use the prop to support your unique anatomy
I am so grateful that I came across this video, the extreme amount of fatigue, anxiety, mood swings that I battle. I am desperate for sleep some days before my cycle, eating, craving sweet. This knowledge is good.
I'm sorry, but I think you may be swinging too far the other way - there is such a thing as excessive normalization. Let's not normalize true pathologies. Ankle dorsiflexion *is* innate to us, look at any newborn. Unfortunately our modern lifestyles have made us lose it as we age. It is becoming an increasingly rare skill that needs to be trained, whereas cultures that normalize the Asian squat rarely deal with this issue. I appreciate the spirit of "we are all special and unique", but there is also wisdom in ancient teachings that shouldn't be glossed over.
People should be aware of this & take it seriously. Only by that there will be changes in the workplace policies. I hope the women with huge influence are working on it. Also we as women should not quickly invalidate other women who express their sufferings just because we only experience milder cycles.
This is so helpful! I've never managed to do this pose and finally understand that it is due to tension in my lower back and not because there is something dreadfully wrong with my body 😅
Love this practice - I'm preparing to teach a liver/gallbladder themed Yin class this evening and this practice really helped me feel into the spaciousness of my body. Thank you for sharing 💚
First day of mens and I feel fatigue along with dysmenorrhea and leg pain. But still have to go to work. Wish there is a work policy for this like a 1st day mens leave or can work from home. Fyi, on days without mens, I can walk 6000 to 10k steps per day but 1st day of mens I feel like I don't have the energy to even walk 1k
I'm the only one who feels exhausted one week after their period? Cause I also feel like that before my period and it makes sense, but I noticed that always, the week after (or after a week) of my period I go through an horrendous fatigue, like, always.
just curious how is adjusting your car seat for you? I find I tend to get upper back pain on long drives trying to hold my arms straight up towards the steering wheel, I'm either leaning my seat forward or overstretching my back - while I see other people reclined back and arms relaxed.. people tell me to just move the seat forward but I have long legs and then they bend and hit the steering wheel... but I suspected I have short arms 😅 not as your short as yours, but I can tell in certain situations, including yoga, something is a bit off. I appreciate someone else pointing that some support is appropriate.
Awesome question! My seat headrest is one of those ones that pushes your head forward. I took it out, and turned it around and now the flat part is where my head rests. Solved lots of discomfort issues for me in my shoulders and upper body!
@@DrKarinaSmith yes I get that. My problem is overthinking, as well as damp climate where I live. A lot of fog and rain from autumn to spring. It's so obvious that when I go to dryer climate my body starts to work differently. I definitely need to move away from where I live. I'm using sauna, lymph drainage, dry brushing... And I'm working on cleaning my diet.
Thank you so much...your presentations are some of the best I've seen- and I've watched/listened to hundreds...I really appreciate the way you dont over complicate your explanations...the way you express and carry your voice with even tones is very welcoming and pleasing to my sensitive ears and helps me retain the information...you are a natural teacher, thank you for making these awesome presentations.
possibly. But it sounds like other patterns to me. That is way too much blood to be losing every month. If you have not done so already, I advise you book in for a pelvic exam and ultrasound to see what might be causing the heavy blood loss.
I am so twisted doing neck yoga moves my legs were on fire and that’s where the movement was most intense (I do have a neck impediment that I’m working on)
Just after watching this, i thought okay that’s good, i actually have a reason to feel this way, i think im going to take it easy now. Mom texts “Are you going to cook anything?” 😅
