Although it was really easy to watch this show and completely miss the fact that Tony Randall character was gay. You almost had to have a magnifying glass.
I wish like hell these episodes would be released on a streaming service!! Or as a dvd set. I remember watching these as a kid and thinking "Wow! They're going to go there?" This was ground breaking television back then.
Search for "Agnes Morehead Madame Mauve" to see her reciting Proust on The Hollywood Palace. And imagine a time when you could hear Proust on an ABC prime time show on Saturday night.
I loved Glynis! I couldn't believe they would cancel such a good show. Look at the success Angela Lansbury had with Murder She Wrote which was the same concept. - And the music was wonderful!
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it. I've seen the rehearsal footage before but I've never seen the super clear performance footage. The one that always zooms out a bit a few seconds after the clip starts. I've seen the press reel footage and the house cam from the Stratford production. Just when I thought I had seen it all, here you come with brand new stuff. Awesome. I must add...you made the baby Jesus cry with that GINORMOUS watermark right smack in the middle of all the rare, great-quality goodness. Don't think I can look back at memories of seeing these video gems...without also seeing the HUGE watermark. Imagine being fortunate enough to see this live but you must wear a pair of glasses that have that watermark etched onto each lens so that you won't ever forget SCOTT MULLIGAN ARCHIVES. I think, given the rarity of this stuff, wouldn't a small corner watermark suffice? Thank you again, sir, for sharing these gems. I am grateful even with the GIGANTIC watermark. =)
This lasted 13 weeks because James T. Aubrey, CBS' ruthless president- and someone who *didn't* love Lucille Ball {he once snapped at her during negotiations to renew "THE LUCY SHOW" for another season, "I'm not here to pump sunshine up your tush!"}- or her production company- begrugingly scheduled this series for the 1963-'64 season....but placed it in one of the worst time slots the network had available: Wednesdays at 8:30pm(et), following "CBS REPORTS" [another program he loathed]. That gave him an easy excuse not to renew it for the remainder of the season {he replaced it with an Allen Funt program, "TELL IT TO THE CAMERA", hosted by an old pal of Aubrey's, Red Rowe--- and it lasted 13 weeks as well}. In the summer of 1965, after Aubrey's departure, CBS graciously allowed Lucy to repeat "GLYNIS" as her summer replacement......but there were no further episodes.
