Just stumbled on this video because it was really OG and it brought back memories of my childhood AND the fact that it was a speedrun made me more interested but I do have a couple questions as to some actions you did in the game and other things.. I see you sometimes not attacking with your last monster which would bring them down to lower LP but you don't attack, how come? I'm assuming 15-card run means you only use 15 cards out of your 40? And the photos on the left side of the screen are cards you need to make the run go smoother yeah?
1. Sometimes if I know I can save an attack on the next turn, I intentionally hold off on attacking with the other monster so I can win the duel slightly faster. Attacks usually take a few seconds to complete so every bit of time save is important in a run that produces a lot of RNG. 2. 15-card mod means that you win 15 cards per duel, which makes for some entertaining runs. 3. The icons on the left basically help viewers know what I currently have in my deck, or card chest, depending on what I won in campaign, or free duel. Hope that answers your questions!
In earlier revisions up to 2.0, the deep freeze for Sub-Zero's first half of his fatality was never patched out so it was basically just there until the official release, which was revision 2.1. I guess it's a glitch because it was never intended to be used in the game since if you use this on either Kintaro, or Shao Kahn, the game crashes.
I've actually been thinking about that. I should let the speedrun mods know, to add 100% (Hard Mode) as another category so that way I have an excuse to also do Dive Into the Cave.
@BadNewsNate That said, a true 100% would encompass quite a bit, IIRC.... 1) 3 Runs of Tour Competition (Normal, Mirror, and Hard Mode) 2) Breaking all records on each course (including the ramps, not Trick Master) 3) Unlocking Gray (By grinding out Trick Master for the GRAY rank, or getting a perfect 50 on the Half-Pipe)
And the funny part is that this is not a completed run lol. I do have a completed run on my Twitch channel, which I should upload here for content because it seems like people enjoy 100% runs of FM.
The lure behind the deep freeze is that it was never patched out in the earlier arcade revisions. The last one to use the deep freeze was revision 2.0, which was the one I used due to the Kahn fight being faster than the earlier revisions. In addition to this, the deep freeze is pretty much unblockable so this was one neat feature used in this run.
