If you like to hike through a crowd along a steep and narrow cliffside, this is the Smoky trail for you. Not to mention the almost impossible task of finding a parking place at the trailhead. This is for sure a nice trail, but there are hundreds of miles of beautiful trails that you will have almost to yourself, especially on a weekday.
This video does such an amazing job of showing the summer magic in the smokies, the mist, the flowers, the sheer amount of greenery its incredible. Visited the park many times in various times of year but to me nothing will beat this look on the smokies.

For anyone planning a trip to Guadalupe Mountains NP, I highly recommend the Mckittrick Canyon trail. Guadalupe peak is a great choice but Mckittrick Canyon is far more scenic IMO. Especially if you continue the trail up the mountain at least to the Notch.
Hi James - thanks for the video - wonderful job. Question - how was your van on the road. We're in a Promaster 3500 - 159" WB - which will be longer than yours but the same width and height. Did you have to fold in our mirrors to get under the 8'-0" restriction ???? Were there any issues ?
Hi thanks! I didn’t have to fold in anything to drive from St Mary’s to Logan Pass. The rest of the road was closed while I was there, so can’t say how it’d be west of this. So no issues! 👍
Thanks for this video! I watched it to prepare for going and it revealed the shuttle that was super helpful so we could hike just one way. Wish we’d had more time to stay and see some of the Colorado side, but I loved this video. Thank you!
Love it! I already spend at least half the year between the US and Baja, and it never disappoints! (probably also helps that I speak Spanish) Anyhow, your channel is a lot like mine, I have a ton of Baja camping videos. And we have been dreaming of getting a van and doing it semi full time. Hey James! We are looking at doing this road in October (around the 11th). Just wondering what time in October you did this and were there many people? Also YT question, we have seen lots of info that says you can’t create videos in USAs National Parks. Would you know more info on this? Appreciate your advice
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been to the park numerous times in the summer and this year going the first week in October, so it was great to see a video from that time of year.
I completed this hike this year in June, not long ago. Hot day, 93 degrees, I don't recommend it. I watched your video before I did it and again, after. The second time actually brought tears to my eyes remembering how difficult it was but what a feeling of accomplishment. If I ever do it again, it will definitely be in the winter. Thank you!
Fun fact: peak7071 in dinosaur national monument is a contender for Colorado's largest vertical wall along with the Diamond of Longs pk and painted wall of the black canyon. It has only been climbed once due to its remotness and loose nature and goes at a mid 5.10 grade.
