Hello and thanks for the very informative video. Quite a few people have come up with wonderful presets (free and not), but the king of vintage synthesizers presets is without a doubt @LFOstore.
Good to see this. Looking forward to more mc-909 content - lol

Thank you so much! Have had this synth for ages and was sure it was damaged somehow. Only needed to change the battery to BR2032 and initialize the thing! :D Fantastic! Thanks again!
Hey Brother, IMPECCABLE series on the 909 synth engine!!!!.... actually close to a 'MasterClass' for synth programming in general - in that you delve into how to **apply** it's architecture's functionality. Scratch-sample technique was a nice surprise. Would be curious on your take on any of these topics next time to jump into synth-tutes: 1. Effective part/channel setup on multi-timbral synths, what is best & where. 2. Strategies to get the most of limited FX engines (buses, parallel/series/sendto*) and FX contortion for live/jam use 3. PC<->Synth midi project management 4. Sampling workflow ( by way of: MC-909 input rec | PC input rec, pre-processing, keeping organized ) You have a gifted way of transmuting highly-technical, "boring AF" technical details into very in-depth, detailed & informative entertainment that is very unique. Your insights in creatively leveraging what's available is invaluable and have a magical spirit & good vibe. Hope the new spot is serving you well & thank you for taking the time to produce such quality content. Forums are plastered with negative comments on this unit and one must come to the conclusion that such types simply lack motivation to actually make their own tones - like someone complaining that a dull pencil sux when the sharpener is on the wall next to them.😎

Hahaha, this is really strange.. When I postprocess I have the G53 as a standard instead of the clearance height. And I am not having my machine going down into the stock. That offset in the settings is scary, you can set it in both positive and negative.. I have crashed proximity sensors that way 🫣
@@BMRStudio Yes I did see that in the video. Very strange that it was 50mm as default. I did check it now on my new installation on my other computer. Its good you solved it at least.
Thanks, I am thinking about getting this one or to buy the Pro Channel II. The only reason to get this is the de-esser, but as I can see it does not work very well especially because it is tied to the compressor. How useful or is compared to the dbx 286 de-esser?
@@BojanBojovicI think the de-esser work very well on this gear. DBX 286 is far more noisy then the Voice Channel. Less dynamic range, and dbx is not transparent at all. Has its own typical Dbx smiley curve on low ends. But nowadays, You can replace all this analog gears with even stock plugins..if the application is not live. For live, there is a lot of decent intelligent interfaces for around 1000$ where You can load a damm good FPGA based 48bit algorithms, on a 24bit direct AD conversion line, for Your channel strip. So.. Yeah, technology is just running.
I had the issue with G53 G0 Z0, and it dragged a carbide bit across a hardened vice jaw... When you create an NC program (8:07) there's an option on the right for Safe Retracts and Home Positioning. I there you can set Safe Retracts to Clearance Height, instead of G53.
@@BMRStudio I've got two theories as to why this happened to us: 1. We've got our Z axis the wrong way up (in software) and positive Z should be downwards - If you look at 3:04 in your video the Blue arrow is up, should that be down? (Mine points up too) - you'll need to invert the axis in UCCNC as well. This is only the problem if it's causing the G53 to go the wrong way, which I'm kinda sceptical of, TBH. 2. I think this is the more likely one. No homing. The machine doesn't know where Z0 is, as G53 is based on machine coordinates, if they're not set by homing it'll head off in some random direction. I've since added home/limit switches to my machine, so I should be able to test if that's the case.
@@matthewgreen8454 Nah :) Tomorrow You will see what caused the travel down.... Its just..... Wrong default settings in the default UCCNC installation. Not the switches, nor the setup, neither Me. Just one stupid data in a small box....
Well, the G53 G0 Z0 should be at the top of your Z axis. So the G code will tell the machine to go max up to the Z0 start to move to the position and go down into the material. So either you turn the blue arrow in Fusion so that Z+ is going to be down instead of up. But that can be a bit dangerous and you might destroy some endmills. I use the free version of Fusiong too and it is working perfectly, yes you cannot use different tools in the same postprocess, but that is ok for me. So you need to change position of your Z axis sensor so that the machine is having G53 Z0 in the top instead.
Its already set Z Home switch to DIR Positive. then I have an extra offset. I did find a way to modify the postprocessor and get rid of this line. This should be GO TO WORK ZERO PLUS Safe Z!! Not Machine Zero. Its just stupid.... So, Probably I have a issue around G53, G54 G55 G56 G57 G58 registers. Another video. Let You guys laugh on me and on Fusion
I make mistakes too.. So what You see, is not only the controller, software, computer, protocol, postprocessor, material, clamping, cutting speeds, cutting tool, working heights, currents, voltages, distances, tolerances, materials, dust collection, metrology, science, applied programming language, wearing, temperature... may I stop here.. meh... But human skills too :)
Will these not work with a more modern digital stereo head? I only get a weird high end sound out of mine like it’s just coming from the horn. Any advice?

@@xyzspec82 so, if you export G code from Fusion , free version, then the code G54 wants to crash the tool every time, regardless you did zero . Then, there is this Z height issue when You have home switch on the positive top Z. And, stupid Fusion just messing with datums, axis directions, machine simulations, and this nonsense bunch of offsets everywhere! With simple software, like Carbide, all right and ok. I have to learn more about Fusion madness, and how to avoid.
@@BMRStudio did you choose the UCCNC post processor when exporting the gcode in Fusion360? I also have the Z homing like yours and It's all good. Fusion + UCCNC is really good for me Hope I could help.

DT 1770 is a best all rounder, Neumann 20 is a bit too stiff but has excellent mid-highs, absolutely studio headphone, Sony WH is not this class at all… kinda a MEH… E-drummers need something durable, easy to repair, easy to clean, cheap to replace, with excellent ear covers, isolation and good dynamic response at low,and highs. I saw many studios using old Beyers DT-770 M, AKG K 92 cheap closed, Beyer DT 150, Sennheiser HD 300 or 280 PRo… Keep in mind, drumming is a heavy, active, full body exercise with flying arms and lot of beer, and sweating 😂 Best if You export your drum session and go to listen in a shop. And buy a powerful headphone amp what can drive high impedance drivers! Behringer or ART will do the job… don’t spend millions of Dollars on it…
Im trying to remove the knobs so I can clean the plastic squares because some do not make contact. Do I need to pull harder on the plastic knobs to remove them?
Means someone already broke them, and glued to the shafts… Yepp, pull it with a U shape flat lever, put some towel under the lever.. Those pots are replaceable, with Mouser Alps pots. Cheap.
I had to install a glass fuel filter bowl to cure/trap, and keep my fuel clean to my carbs. My tank liner started to put super fine deposits into my fuel. Only the glass bowl cured this problem.
I got a super luxury filter set from a friend, who has a Stihl shop and service. Since then, not so much problem with dirt. Only the stupid 10% ethanol is killing all rubber pipes, gaskets, whatever. So 100 octane only!
@@BMRStudio A filter was not able to get it done for me. The particulate matter was so small if would pass through. I tried a ceramic filter but it would not allow enough flow but it did filter. The glass fuel filter bowl is doing the trick as the matter is heavier than fuel. I have emptied my fuel bowl 3 times now. It works!! Stens Filter Bowl Assembly 120-030. As for fuel, I use midgrade. It makes the most power for me. The stuff I use for fuel line is working well with ethanol10 percent or more as I am in Colorado and that is all we have. . As for fuel line, I use Silicone Tubing. No degradation at all. As new. Ethanol does not faze it.
I know 😂 Cloned already… anyway, it’s not so important, I will keep only the files for people, who are looking for the original. In few weeks, the whole system get a new modern motion control and motors. Now we just playing with the router, to know the limits, precision and status of the mechanics. Thank You for watching!
This was a very informative video thank you. I opened it up to clean all or most sections. I thought I could fix buttons F2 or or F4, but they don’t work. Do you know the part I need to source for it? I don’t use twin beam buttons. Do you think I could use those buttons and swap them? If you have any link please let me know. Thanks.
I will check the service manual later today. I remember some seller on eBay, still up there, selling like a pack of switches in bag for MC 909. Kinda not standard height or something….
@@BMRStudio btw, I used general circuit board Isopropyl Alcohol. I did your instructions about letting to button soak when pressing or recessing the button, to let it leak in. Interestingly enough, those exact two buttons F2 and F4 had mild “rust color” on the microscopic sides. It didn’t look terrible, but I could definitely see that some type of oxidation was specifically on those two buttons. You recommend I use DeOxi? How should I treat or approach the procedure again, the exact same way? Let’s assume those two buttons are shot and need to be replaced, then should just open up the rubber part and deep clean inside with a magnifier using DeOxi? I figured the worst case scenario is I can swap two buttons from the machine that i never use! For me F2 User and F4 Effects are priority over everything 💪🏼.
It looks like if you put another small signal diode - between the battery and the next resistor, this would prevent the charging of the battery. Something like a BAT42 for minimal voltage drop. This mod is often used by the vintage PC crowd, to use CR2032 instead of a rechargeable lithium for the BIOS settings. Thanks for the video.
I think the best solution for this synthesizer, if You attach a 120Ah tractor battery to it…😂 I switched to Arturia Cz-V. Kinda 99.999999% same sound, so, soon this synth will go to a hibernation box.
Well, still on the way. Went a little bit off the rail. New idea, better PCB design, way better performance, Maybe I will finish the Master MTX in the next Year. If the market is wake up.
Anyone who can afford an MC 909, buy it. They will be worth gold and will be even more sought after in the near future and it is 2024. MC-707 didn't take the top spot in Roland's grooveboxes
Soon all hardware synth will worth a fortune... Not so much new synths are made. No new ideas. Roland, Korg, Yamaha went to software way already. opposite is happening too, VST brands are coming to hardware, like Arturia... MC 909 will be classic thing in 5 years. Just like JD 800 in the last 3 years. Actually MC-909 is a lot of fun. Almost endless playground.
Need your advice bro, the evil brassy lead sound that starts at 1min 15seconds has me scratching my head, does a KorgMS20 or an ENSONIQ SQ80 going through vocoder/multi tap delay of a Boss SE50 or SE 70 make sense ? Your thoughts greatly appreciated. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lBCD9a6xJm4.htmlsi=pjexDZnvH1cCtaRG
This has to be the best review on RU-vid ever!! Thank you ever so much! In one go I now know how to operate my device. Thanks a lot! This video however missed how to set immpedence for different mics. Can u please shed advice on that?
Thanks for replying. The ears is what I went with eventually although somethings really confusing. I'm using an AT2035 and it's impedance is rated at 120. The dial starts at 150 😂. Said clarity was achieved at something like 400 or so 🤣
Thanks! for the repair Tutorial! after i replace the PNP Transistor and The 74HC4053D now my Ur 22 back to life again. the problem is my Younger brother turn on the 48v , input 1 mic and input 2 acoustic guitar with XLR connection! really Thanks Man!
Nowadays You can get this model for 20$ on Ebay… At least stable with Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper, Studio One…. Sound quality is average. Headphone amp weak, guitar input mode bit noisy.. So yeah, for 20$ good 😊
Having a phantom power supply that can only be enabled for both inputs at the same time is not entirely too uncommon, actually. The MOTU M2 comes to mind as another example, and a bunch of mixers like my Mackie 402 VLZ4. Usually it doesn't hurt anything either, although the inputs need to be adequately protected to avoid damage when things are plugged / unplugged (see various articles on the "Phantom Menace"). A properly wired passive microphone is connected across XLR pins 2+3 and floating relative to 1 and as such never sees any voltage at any time. Miswired mics still seem to crop up every once in a while among ultracheap dynamics but in general nonstandard pinouts should be very uncommon in anything made since the 1970s or so.
Its just bad design, to send phantom power out on both channels... Probably companies are copying each other, beside fighting on market. Just one example... on some marketing brochure, Steinberg even showing a girl singing in a condenser MIC, while her guitar is recorded with an dynamic mic. Or even in the user manual You see mic and not a mic connected... No, My friend, is just bad. BAD. Just like the MONO monitoring from Yamaha Steinberg... Jesus! :) How much they saved? 30 cents? Many people turned to Me with the same issue. Yes people buying second hand or cheap microphones, and wiring can be bad. But, 48V shouldn't be on channel, what is not decided to power a MIC in a session. Not on any gear, tape recorder, mixer or interface. Totally not professional. That's why we have RED lights on any gear to warn Us, - hey, there is a phantom power on!

HEY MR BMR ...have you any circuit knowledge on how I can take that ice pick top end out of the RESONANCE potentiometer (filter circuit) of the FILTER on my MC505? Or is there someone you could ask ? Capacitor ? Etc That would be great. Your are the man
MC 505 has a digital filter in the tone generator chip. I guess, if You add an extra 470 ohm resistor in series to the VR5 potentiometer middle leg, You have to cut the PCB there, - can do the trick to eliminate the ugly digital Roland screaming resonance. One of My friend just drilled a hole into the poti cap, then inserted a nail and a screw to the panel :) hard limit... One night, he just smashed the MC505 under the wheel of a UAZ...
Hi BMR , i have the mc909 and mc505 , do you know whether their synth engines are the same ? I know they both use the 4 tone paradigm ? Cheers bud.. ✌️
Hi! The MC 505 is closer to the old boy MC 303, it uses a 64 voice ROM sampler player and a Acoustic Simulation engine. Mostly used by techno DJ,s, because the huge sound and drum set, easy of tweaking, fast filter and the horrible sounding 24 effects… was a good step up after the MC 303. I kind a hate it, because was not so stable in live act performances with Virus and Nord Modular. I sold it on EBay 15 Years ago 😂
