Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this information, I don't know much about electronics, but I paused the video, did exactly what you did step by step, fully expecting to break the device....but it actually worked and now its monitoring in stereo! I'm so happy right now I want to name my next child after you. I was going to buy a different sound card, purely because of the mono issue, but you have completely fixed it. Its mind blowing how you figured out the circuit and found a solution. thank you, thank you THANK YOU.
I have the same interface but with the left channel on both Phones output and Line out really distorted/weak. Thanks to your hacking video I traced the malfunction to the third opamp that relays to the left and right channels. Since your hack bypassed the first opamp I was able to completly remove it and replace the damaged one which both solved my left channel issue AND upgraded the interface monitor output to stereo! You're a legend man, thanks alot!
Was trying to output only the daw-processed guitar signal to my amp today and discovered that both channels were included in the mix. I thought I was losing my mind. Can you by chance fix my ur22 as well? in virginia
i have a ur242 and can only stream mono signal from input 3/4. i linked the channels in dspMixFx and set up everything like they tell you in the manual but it still mono. big headache could it be that this solution work with my interface? it`s the same interface but with more inputs on the backside
First things first: Hats off!!! Thank you so much for your effort on doing all this!! This is an AWESOME tutorial, moreover a stellar explanation of the whole gear! You are awesome. I immediately subscribed to your channel - although I am not even close to electrical engineering, but curious to see and understand things. One more question: Magyar vagy? Csak az akcentus alapján tippelem. Zseniális ez a video és az egész csatornád is!!! :-)
@@BMRStudio Hejj, akkor ez a legjobb magyar audiotechnikai csatorna amit ismerek :-) (Nem mintha olyan sokat ismernék, de ez leginkább engem minősít :-D) Szóval, akkor ahogy Arany János is mondta: "Keep up the good work on RU-vid!" :-D
Nowadays You can get this model for 20$ on Ebay… At least stable with Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper, Studio One…. Sound quality is average. Headphone amp weak, guitar input mode bit noisy.. So yeah, for 20$ good 😊
In 16:40 up left next to ribon corner there is opamp. Is that opamp for the mic preamp? It say 2068d jrc... I changed it with opamp opa1642 it should have lower noise but interface still works same.. Is that opamp for first chanel or for both?
had the same issue with my ur22 & yamaha mixer ;_; eventually managed to get mic input from the mixer but only desktop output through the steinberg >.< finally upgraded to a interface with a more "robust" driver. I'll use my ur22 for my remote recording setup.
Sir, I am from India, can you tell me Steinberg ur22mkii is the best audio interface ? Many people speak of its a low preamp and preamp is very noise .I'm confuse Please tell me honestly Steinbergur22 is best or not ? But I don't want Focousrite interface , I want other
Annoying Video, in the beginning, BUT this is so great that you, sir, took the time for THIS! SUPER Information and one can learn so much, from this! SUPER MADE, for the fact that you understand all those circuits, I find it mind-blowing... It looks like a city with many streets and houses, haha. I could never figure that Thing out. :)
When You do a record, the recording is stereo. The problem is with the monitoring under recording. With Cubase, You can achieve stereo monitoring, but with a delay off course. So Yepp, no other way to get stereo monitoring under record, only with hardware modification.
Pls i need your help im having a problem with my sound card ur22, if i record a sound along with a beat now if i solo the recorded sound i can here the beat sound
Hi i read a lot of sudden death of these units. Some wrote ist happend after disconecting mic´s with aktive phantom power. Did something happend to you too? Do you have a conclusion that could help bringin back unit to life?
Thorsten Pannwitz probably just an input coupler capacitor and the first opamp. Or (and) the last resistor in the phantom power feed line. Cost around 10$? Never connect or disconnect phantom powered mic, until the output voltage is not zero! Just wait 5-10 sec.
@@BMRStudio If we have a broken unit could have a look on it when sending it to you? Many people were lucky to find out how to repair it...;-) Are you from Berlin ?
Thorsten Pannwitz Yes I’am from Berlin. But, can be nice if You will fix it, is just a 98 Eur interface, worst case You buy a new one:))) Send it if it’s too hard task for You. Decide before You jump inside:)
I am also ex from Berlin but living in Munich. So i got that little puppy now. First i downloaded th newest driver. Then installing them. Next was pulggin in in the ur 22. First blinking then stable light. So i can find it in my windows (7 x64) and in may daw /Studio one 4 prof.) I can choose it. So good so fine. But no sound at all. I plugged in the mike in xlr - nothing. The mike has it´s own powerunit and i know it works. So no sound from Headphones plug and also no sound from the line out´s. Tested with mike plugged in and playing a song while using the yamaha asio. hmm Turning the switches - nothing. i have a bit knowing of electronics, not that much. Any idea where i could have a look inside an make some tests? Unit looks fine so far so not broken anything.hm- Would like to bring it bacl to life. ;-)
I have a question and might be really silly but i've been reading about this and i'm confused now. If i use the steinberg UR22 to hear a song I'm working on fl studio and plug my headphones in the audio interface will i hear everything in mono ?? or stereo ??
Meh.... who knows:)... Check the manuals, the last pages contains the block diagrams . If You see a SUMMA operator, with 2 input, 1 output, well.... grab Your soldering iron :)
@@BMRStudioI somehow got those replies displayed in reverse order so it sounded like you were sure then not sure :) To confirm, I analyzed those diagrams. I'm not an electronic wizard like you but I see a box which says "SAME AS ABOVE X2" in UR44 and UR28M, which is not present in UR22. I guess this is what you mean? An abbreviation for the second output you mentioned? Also thank you a lot, I was already almost set on Scarlett 2nd Gen due to the lack of data from Steinberg, but now I will reconsider :)
DJ Full the 2 interface what You mentioned, is not mono like this s...t Both of the interface, has a incredible mixer, effect engine, router, monitoring switcher built in. You can go for them, don’t worry.
@@BMRStudio thanks for confirming. I was just curious if I was reading the summa diagram correctly with this "same as above" box. it's actually a very valuable skill to be able to read those :)
Dragos Ion Yepp... Just we have now a lot of works in the construction business.. Summer is the best time for concrete! Aaand, I already try to shoot a new video series about the MC 909 synth engine. 6 weekend, and I always get interrupted by some other projects! Hrrrgh!
please help me i´ve got the ur 44 for about 4 years now, but suddenly i need to turn de gain volume almost till 2 or 3 o´clock in order to have a good input level signal, (before i use to get a good input signal at 10 or 11 o´clock) the phantom power is working fine and the ur is updated and i haven´t changed the mic, and i´ve had tired different mics but its the same, any idea of what the problem could be? thank you man
Check Your hardware settings for the channels. In Cubase. There is 2 option. -10 dB, pr +4dB True only on channel 3 and 4. Otherwise can be input capacitor, gain adjuster circuit or some corrosion in the Neutric combo connector switching plates. Check Your noise floor on max gain settings! If the noise floor is a same like before, then something before the first op-amp (cap probably)
@@BMRStudio thanks man the settings are correct +4dB for channel 5 and 6, cause i have the ur 44 (6 channels) and i have the problem on the four main combo inputs, ill try input capacitor!! i will let you know!!! thank you again
Well... Cubase loves Steinberg interfaces :) But go for their high end models with built in DSP and mixer functions. For zero latency monitoring and recording situations. Personally I have a 128 ch monster DSP setup with Waves Soundgrid Mixer and bunch of top nerd interfaces... Works fine :)
The main reason why you won't get live stereo, is that the inputs are mono, and you have no balance knobs or or stereo/mono button. It's a super cheap and pretty high quality audio interface. It would be weird if you heard your vocals on the left side, and your guitar on the right side, if recording both live, wouldn't it?
It weird, when You wanna record stereo source and You hear everything in MONO.... It weird, when their own software, which is packed with the interface, has presets for mono or stereo monitoring! It weird, when the line output is also MONO from the stereo source. What about DJ-s? What about home radio broadcasters? Or You wanna record everything mixed from the interface? Looks like , You don´t get the point from the video :) How about selected mode monitoring with a simple switch? We talking about a brutal 45 Cent extra cost in the interface... Or , a simple digital signal routing in the Altera something FPGA what they used, without extra cost? If Terratec did it around 1999 with their low cost stereo interfaces, (aka true zero latency monitoring with Matrix control), or MOTU in 1997, or E-MU 1820 family in 1999, and many others, then why a super rich, powerful company like Steinberg - Yamaha cannot do a same in 2019? The whole design is just dumb. And this is the message of My video. BTW, I still like this interface, no doubt. Cheap interface , great build quality, good sound. As I said....
@@BMRStudio thanks for the reply. I get your point. I just never personally was shocked that direct monitoring was mono, because that is the most natural in most cases. And the line output is two mono outputs, so nothing weird about that either. It can be panned in a mixer. But yeah, I think it annoys people in different ways, the lack of direct monitoring in stereo. But if I had the option where I had to choose. I'd choose mono instead of stereo. The reason is, if I'm recording guitar and vocals at the same time, it would be super annoying to have each channel to the far left and right, hehe. Just saying. I still think your video is great in a number of ways. You have the best humor ;)
@@TundrahSounds Stereo is not only about PANNING dude :) They mixed the two input signal into one MONO signal!!!! Hardwired! So no stereo field, position, phases, differences. like a Time travel back to 1954 :) MONO!
I think You can, because the board and the A/D converter using unbalanced signals on the input. So theoretically , You can add an insert point after the first preamp.
Stephen Beckham In general not bad quality for Your money. I think they just did a mistake in the design. Same story as many other products on the market. Their big interfaces are absolutely a beast in quality and features. Just keep in mind, originally I bought this interface to do measurements in My electronic lab, because the noise level and the dynamic range :) 100 Dollar vs 12.000 Dollar for a special laboratory instrument.... I hope they will come out with MK3 soon!
liligh You need an external mixer, or a audio interface with zero latency monitoring (basically a integrated mixer, or loopback from the AD to the DA converter, aka digital mixer...) or a hybrid mixer-interfaces like the cheap Behringer USB mixers, or Yamaha AG-06 etc... Almost all interfaces nowadays supports zero latency monitoring. Not like in the 90’s :) Few DAW software also supports near zero latency monitoring. Check Your hardware and the software. Few driver also has a matrix routing control option! With the UR22, is simple, just turn the pot on the front from DAW to Input, until You get the desired level in Your headphones. I hope this will help:)
