We had a question working through the third play in this video….. if you have long arms like me, then stepping to the side and putting the messer in their face is devastating….. the ladies in my club feel like it’s an automatic double because the attacker will just follow the stab right into you. Thoughts?

Pike was used to stop a cavalry charge. They were supported by the skirmishers and grenadiers and heavy units. While raining arrows from the rear to keep them volleys non stop and secured from might cavalry flanks. The arbalests were also in the mix taking out the enemy pole and pike units asap so their cavalry units can then have a safer path to break their line formation and cause panic.
I could ask this in Dutch, but in case anyone else is interested, I’ll stick to English: Do you have any thoughts about the applicability these rules to a heavyish quarterstaff instead of a greatsword? I personally think it would work well, as long as you understand that cutting is replaced by blunt impact. However, I might be overlooking something, so I’m curious about your thoughts. Also, thanks in general for the amount of stuff you share with us!
I have a question, in reality how much have the sword fighting tactics changed over time? Like would sword fighting from Alexander's time look different than the time of the Arab conquests, to the time of like the Vikings, Knights etc. Or are they generally the same principles?
Whst if one of the others has say, a halberd, anything with a decent chance to entangle or slow down the GS? I'd look to have something chain-based, or throwable, there must be some practical way to counter the GS or slow it sufficiently
Ancient warfare is so stupid. Don’t get me wrong I love the history, but those people were absolute morons. “Let’s all just stand in front of eachother and stab at eachother. There HAD to have been a better way.
so people don’t know how to grab something anymore as soon as you get past the pike part grab it it’s heavy as hell but you can move it a good few feet from the attacker
It feels like if the fully armoured knight would swing hard, the fight would be over in an instant with the hammer pike thing. Whilst that sword seems to just bounce of the armour.
