80 unreleased video and audio recordings for Martha Argerich 80th birthday! This RU-vid Channel is dedicated to my dearest friend Che Frye (1978-2017) with whom I was traveling across Europe to hear Martha Argerich in concert and had the best time ever. Part of these releases are coming from his personal collection. Thanks a lot to Hywel David, Björn Östlund, Sergio Romagnoli, Merwan Mazloum for their contributions. The music published in this channel is exclusively dedicated to divulgation purposes and not commercial. If someone, for any reason, would deem that a video appearing in this channel violates the copyright, please inform me immediately before you submit a claim to RU-vid, and it will be my care to remove immediately the video accordingly. Please do not share the content of this channel on social media any further. Thank you.
Amazing music played by the amazing Martha. Only one reservation to make about this video; this is a piece of extraordinary technical virtuosity throughout. So why was the camera ever taken off her awesome hands, even for a moment? Video producers sometimes seem to forget the purpose of videos, and fail to appreciate that much of the piano-lover's pleasure is visual as well as auditory. Just watch any group of people gathered round the piano in everyday life. None of them look anywhere but at the pianist's hands.
For me the most effective reading was the one she did most recently in 2020, though this certainly has fire abound. The 2020 recording for me had just that slight more breathing room and expansiveness that this work can benefit from too, I equally love the sokolov reading you can find on RU-vid. The third sonata is one of the miracles of piano music, and contains everything in and has always been one of my favourite things to play, astonishing difficulty aside. Again Charles thank you for sharing - and the Prokofiev from 1966! Is that the only recording to exist from that, was it a recital? Or radio feature? I always look forward to your uploads.
I was unaware of this piece until I stumbled upon it being played on YT by two brothers aged 12 and 10. YT then sent me here. Both performances incredible for different reasons.
The whole of Mozart's output for 4 hands piano is extremely lovely ( plus the 2 piano sonata K 448 !! ) - Still ..... I retain so strongly in my mind the old Eschenbach-Frantz recorded version that I cannot completely appreciate this energetic Argerich-Pires . In EF version the slow movement become absolutely heavenly, a balm for the soul !!
Genia.
two geniuses. Unfortunately, it cannot always be considered a good performance. Mozart's music is just that difficult-not just technically, but musically extremely challenging.
