Medium is my "recreational" writing platform. I have other outlets for paid writing projects. Ironically, I enjoy reading other authors on Medium as much (or more so) than writing on Medium.😁
Thank you for your video. Back in June, I wrote an article that was anti-LGB... and got banned from Medium for it. My writing is from a Christian's perspective. As a result, they canceled my account without any warning. I have it posted on my website for the world to see it wasn't hateful and I don't use foul language. I enjoyed writing on there as well (even though there were tons of trolls). Nonetheless, I'm not writing on there anymore either.
I just started looking at Medium to create my own publication since I'm such a narrow niche... Psychologist turned psychic-medium so for me my pub will be very personal. Your stuff is sensational. I just also started your Write to 1K course. Amazing. Think about creating your own publication on medium. Your voice is so well rounded when you teach and express the micro and the macro of what we need to do. Thanks for all the help over the years. 😊
I’ve been on Medium since 2021 and even though only a few of my articles were boosted, I barely get engagement anymore( and Like the topics I focus on personally). Most of the articles have been getting two claps or at the most 5. I am disappointed in Medium. They should pay writers more… but I am looking to pivot my writing career these days.
Thank you, Elna. I think this video is timely for my situation right now. For a long time, I'm agonizing about how to explain my gap in employment on LinkedIn (unemployed since the pandemic) and whether it'll affect my chances of client work. After watching your video, I think I better focus more on creating some sample writing work instead.
Yes, of course. That's what I've experienced as well. Frankly, I'm baffled by it. You showed us an incredibly well-written article. In contrast, I've seen articles with clickbaity headlines and little substance getting thousands of claps. To get noticed, you almost have to be a beginner writer.
The content is VERY click baity. I experimented and found that the more crazy and zany my title, the more comments but I don’t like writing politically charged, personal matters. I prefer writing about language and interior decorating.
I remember there used to be article marketing websites that were nothing but articles. People used to write there in the hopes of getting articles ranked in google. I had a few that got on the first page a few times. You could add a link in your signature for Seo. But that was back in 2012 ish. Medium seems like a decent platform to publish content. I haven’t used it yet as I’m just now getting into the freelance space. But many sites seem to be getting a negative rep these days.
Great insights. Yes, at times why the profile doesn't work. The bounce rate is so much high. There must be content strategy, to work upon. But, the real problem, lies being a generalist and a beginner, as far as paid writing is concerned. Would you recommend some blogs, that are worth watching, according to your experience and industry exposure. In one of my past comments, I requested, how to master SaaS Copywriting niche. Would it be much helpful, if you make a specific video, that. Much obliged, for your thoughtful consideration. Regards SyedTariqMuneerJafry Freelance Copy and Content Writer.
Hi! The SaaS copywriting niche is a niche that I'm not too familiar with. I mostly do content writing for SaaS using copywriting principles. There are a series of steps to follow to finding your first client that I lay out in my email course. I also have a free LinkedIn Marketing newsletter that provides LinkedIn tips to networking and engage potential leads: linkedin-accelerator-newsletter.beehiiv.com/
Hi, Been watching a lot of your videos lately. Will enroll in your free course. Is there an email you can share here that people can use if they want to reach out to you for more help? Thank you for the work you do :)

I get a lot of content ideas but I don’t want to teach freelancing , content writing or etc etc stuff instead I want to build some content for lead gen . But I can’t figure it how to do this .
To get clients coming to you, your website needs to speak to your ideal client and your content as well. For me, I made sure to put my website link everywhere - on social, on my guest author bios, on my blog, on Medium, etc..
I've liked your videos. Unfortunately, I did everything people say. I got so burnt out on endless rejection. Its saturated right now. I was home for several months and could not find work. What am I missing?
Glad you enjoyed my videos. Yes, I got burnt out after my vacation too...I had a hard time pulling myself out and be more productive. It takes time to land clients. I suggest you make a list of leads and start cold pitching while finding jobs on LinkedIn and job boards!
Elna's channel is great, but if you want a lot more details, that could help you go look at her courses on her site. I have bought several because she gives tips that have worked and still work for her... and no I'm not an affiliate for her, just a big fan.
Great video, Elna! Informative with a lot of great content. I was happy to find this in my inbox 🙂 I am also enjoying your Write Your Way to Your First $1K course. Thank you!
Oh thanks so much! I had hard time sustaining my voice until the end. The video was almost two hours (I went through that AWAI guide...like all the pages so I got rid of that as it was unnecessary)!
Very nice class! The niche I'm most interested in is automobiles. Is it still possible to establish a successful career as a freelance automotive copywriter or do automakers like Audi just go through an in-house group to create content for them? Thank you for taking the time to give us this great content.
Does Contena still have this? I had to purchase a $20 quickstart course on the website and everything is locked behind their $997+ membership. Just curious. Thanks!
LinkedIn, Notion, and Medium are free to use for a portfolio. But I do feel that a website portfolio is the best way to showcase your writing and gain the trust of clients and website hosting does cost. But I always suggest have many different portfolios so try the free ones first!
Elna , I am a new freelance copy writer and I am so happy to come across someone, completely unselfish like you. Thank you. Omonigho Efe-votu, Nigeria.
Great video! If you're looking to boost your SEO and get more eyes on this content, I'd be happy to help with a targeted promotion strategy. Feel free to reach out!
