Too bad great vocal harmony is dead. Got to listen to the oldies to find it. In my state capital market, only one station plays Cowsills, and it's AM! So sad
According to Susan on a recent podcast, Dean was her favorite old man stage partner by far, in part because in rehearsal he was super nice, asking constantly if it she was comfortable with whatever contact was scripted. And hey, if you think this is cheesy, look for the Buddy Ebsen special, where they have Susan do weird things with a Saint Bernard.
This is too weird, and I love the Cowsills. If you know much of their story, what a jerk dad was and all, it's even more cringe-worthy. I don't think they did themselves any favors by doing all this middle of the road variety show crap and participating so fully. They were real musicians and wanted to be a real rock band, but what we see here makes you think they wanted to be... what? Grandma's favorite band or something - the exact opposite of what pop music fans were buying. Thanks dad and entertainment industry weasels! They really had talent, could have had a far less tragic career...
The Partrige family was a situation comedy consisting of more detailed scenary and witten comedy for that purpose. This was unfortunately not a good choice for a real pop group. The focus shoud've remained on their music. Either Music or TV both hardly ever works. People either watch tv or listen to music.
I really appreciate the Cowsills. They all worked so hard only to have their drunk alcoholic father ruin their careers because of his poor management. And finally when they could all split up the loot and live large they found out their alcoholic father pissed millions away with bad investments and allowing other’s to take advantage of them.
What's so charming is the refusal to be offensive or rude to their audience. The goofy montages, dressing the same. Thry were a lottle before my time. Im 52 but also enjoying them now in 2024.
What's interesting is how often Susan was taken advantage of - how she is always in mini-skirts, trying to be grown up - showing herself off at 5:03 and 5:12 - she even has to tug at her skirt to hide her panties. At 12:14 you can see how Buddy Epson is holding and fondling her, and her hands drop down to protect herself. At 13:20 - why is she straddling the dog and riding it that way? This program was broadcast in 1968 - in a supposed time of "family values" - yet, it sexualized Susan several times. What does that say? that sexualizing children started with conservatives in this country and continues to this day with conservatives? Children are sexualized, but he greatest audience are not liberals, they are and always have been conservatives?
They always have such good harmony. However the horn in this song sounds awful. The horn sounds out of tone and too high pitched too. Other than that; the song sounds great.
This is far from the first time this little girl was sexualized, right in front of the camera. In front of the whole camera crew. Just imagine what it was like for her without witnesses. Everyone can see this today, and they saw it back when it was very, very taboo, back then, but Hollywood is special
