It's a good thought and kind of clever that it crosses your mind that the temperatures are so low and wonder if any beneficial bacteria survive and yes there are just as many and just as much bacteria that survive in those cold environments as they would in nature
amazing stuff keep up the good work brother I've seen a lot of people frying right out of the creek it's good to know a way to clean them up like that, very good stuff man.
Think the black trap may be to hard to navigate for the bait fish. Where as the silver is easier for them to see how to get on the inside. I could be wrong though..
I have both styles and been trapping minnows for years ans the silver trap for some reason always catches more, i try painting the black ones white but still didn't catch as many maybe it's something to do with the type of material its made of.
Bayou secret for Buffalo Tenderloins: Pressure cook your fish first, softens the bones up. Then, you can shred the meat and patty it out for frying if you like it fried....
I have 2 of these, $6 on Temu. I haven't tried them for crawfish. However, this past fall I tried one out for minnows. I baited with a small piece of leftover cheese powerbait block from one of my hoop nets. In the span of just a few hours this trap accumulated several thousand shiners....
Give me the lobster. I can't do crawfish so far..ive tried, and they were just too fishy tasting for me,but maybe someday i will like the crawfish. Now lobster i can do every single day and not get sick of.
This is a great guide, it can be one step shorter and cheaper though: Shiners will hit jig and bobber setups, VERY aggressively. You just need the tiny jigs, which are one time purchase and then, no more digging for worms. Google or amazon for Trout Magnet brand, Panfish Magnet kit. Their bobbers and rubber jig setups will catch shiner pretty easily.
If you have a snake problem, these traps are also great for catching snakes - just put the trap along a wall or fence and dig a slight depression so the edges are flush with the ground - the snakes crawl in but then can't figure out how to get out.
As kids we used to trap minnows in the creek for fishing in the ponds down the road. One time the trap was completely submerged and when we checked it, there were 3 milk snakes drowned in there. They had swum in to eat the minnows. Would have been pretty exciting if they had been able to breathe and still alive when we checked the trap. Milk snakes aren't venomous, but have nasty tempers and bite hard.
What State arre you in? I was surprised that you can not keep Bluegill as here in TN their is no size regs or creel limits this year (aside from a few bodies of water).
You shou;d get 2 black and 2 silver and put the same color in over night to see if there is a difference. What if the traps are just in the wrong spot? You will never know
I’ve used both kinds. I used them in creeks all over WV. No difference in what they catch around here. I always used bread for minnows. Meat for crawdads or crayfish.
