Since its founding in 1972, the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG) is a world leader in expeditionary-scale geophysical research, conducting research in four broad themes: climate, energy, marine geosciences, seismology and tectonophysics, and planetary and polar geophysics.
Let’s do some simple math. In France, the Cosquer Cave containing prehistoric cave paintings has an entrance 121 feet below sea level. We are told that 20,000 years ago when the cave was occupied by artistically inclined troglodytes that sea level was approximately 500 feet lower than current levels. Here’s the math part…500 feet of sea level increase in 200 centuries, that’s 2.5 feet of increase per century average for the last 200 centuries. Currently the sea level is increasing at the rate of .5 (1/2) foot in the last century. I’d say we should be concerned that the rate of increase has nearly stopped. The average for the last 200 centuries is 500% higher than the current rate. Anyone else as concerned about this as I am. Time to get back to the old rate.
I really enjoyed your talk! I had questions, but as you went on they got answered. It was about the fraction of ice contacting the base, as a cause of uncertainty. Yep! The deep level hydrological pressures can become unaccounted for if the fraction of contact isn't substantiated- as shown on your radar images. Best of success for your research!

On october 13, 2026 the state of our universe will be at the point 6 million years in the past. On june 04, 2051 the state of our universe will be at the point 15 million in the past. On june 28, 2092 the state of our universe will be at the point 30 million years in the past. On april 02, 2147 the state of our universe will be at the point 50 million years in the past. In some maps, the bases of the Antarctic ice sheets are shown to be below sea level. If I got the gist here, it's all about retreating grounding lines, coupled with the the action of cold, dense runoff water sinking to the base of the ice and hydrologically floating the ice shelves that leads to ice loss and sea level rise? Might it also create lateral or shearing movement that would lead to (satellite) visible surface fracturing, leading to large events like Larsen B? Is there any evidence yet of a kind of Bond Cycle in any of your research areas? Or has the land surface been so depressed that rocks aren't involved in these processes? Warm ocean water comes from sublevel volcanos in the sea.over 100. Since hundreds of years. No problem so far. Next warming influence ist the Antarctica peninsula which lies in a warm westwind zone. Why do they hide all this in the slides.

The Earth is cooler with the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer. To perform as advertised the GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body.
