These are the coolest squash I’ve ever grown. This was my first year, and I will definitely grow them again. I do have a question for you. My soil is constantly flooded and most likely very deficient in nutrients. I’m not quite sure I’ve tested several times and honestly, I don’t really see a change on the test strips so..… anyway I have about 2- 20 foot vines going in different directions, lots of side shoots.I feel like it might need less to support because some of the side shoots look like they’re struggling already. Possibly deficient, like the roots of 2 cannot handle all of this. They have brown tips and are starting to turn yellow. I’ve only been able to grow 2 large squash and 3 small that I hand pollinated, but they didn’t grow longer than 8 inches, then started to get soft so I just pulled them off. Would you recommend that I trim some side shoots or stop the growing tip and cut that?
Fruit that turns brown and doesn’t get large can often be from lack of pollination. Are you hand pollinating regularly? It could also be like you said that the roots are flooded. If you’re worried about nutrient but have lots of moisture consider a water double fertilizer that you can sprinkle into the soil. All that moisture should melt it down nicely.
@@MaryMakes as stated I hand pollinate so it’s not a pollination issue. These are turning brown before ever opening a flower. I’m at a loss, I’ve tried everything. I’m about to give up gardening in this yard. I’ve never had so many problems in 25 years of growing.
Thank you. I ordered and planted ornamental gourds. This is what grew. I grew Trombone squash so at first I thought I goofed up. But no bell happened, and they are now 4ft long. Weird stuff lol.
I just found my dad through ancestry at 35! They came to american from Sicily when he was 8! Try8ng to full fill some big shoes growing Cucuzza! Thank you for sharing this help me because I can't understand his acent!😂😂😂😂
Oh wow how awesome is that!!! You got this! Trust me once those flowers start to open you’ll be up to your eyeballs in Cucuzza! I like to go out in early morning or late evening as the make flowers seem to open more during those times in my area.
Cucuzza steamed with tomato and plenty of garlic will make a lovely stew then you need a loaf of italian bread to push the juice around. Got started with these by an old italian gardener. His trellis is permanent, goes up 6 feet and over/down the other side. He pulls the fruits down through the horizontal section and gravity makes then 4ft long and straight. I have a lesser trellis but I'm hoping for similar results. If I get lots, I'm going to try some of them serpent style. That's the natural shape.
We’re near Houston too and growing snake beans, long beans, cow peas (love the heat), okra, and eggplant through the summer. A few more things miraculously survived Beryl!
... excellent presentation 👍👍... out of curiosity, what type of fabric do you prefer for making the bandana's? ... and, I just subscribed to your channel ✌✌
I have been making your Bandanas for the last couple of years for my son’s Springer Spaniels. Oh how they love them ❣️🌻 Thank you so much . I like your pattern and instructions so much they’re the best❣️☺️😘
OMG , me again, male sewist here.... You are freakin awesome.... This quilt is so cool ... Love your videos. Wow you are one kool cat, lol, love love your stuff. Learning from ya. Thanks for sharing. Be well... Rob
I watched this video to see how it's done but I noticed that your plants have white flowers and mine has yellow like the zucchini , it said they were Cucuzelle /Cucuzza ? Help.
Interesting. In my experience Cucuzza has always had white flowers. It’s a gourd that pollinated naturally by moths. There are some similar vining squash like Zuchinni Rampincante that has yellow flowers. What does the rest of your plant look like? Cuccuzza has extremely soft leaves, like very soft! They also put out these long curly tendrils.
Thanks so much! I buy my cattle panels at tractor supply. They work perfectly bent over my 8x4 beds. They are pretty affordable and last forever! They have a second kind that’s made for pigs that has a slightly narrower width as well.
Hello ... I am enjoying your tutorials and was wondering what is the brand name of the see-through ruler @ 22:50, the one with the hand grip. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
I should mention the handle I bought separately at a quilt shop years ago. But there are several similar stick on handles you can purchase like this one amzn.to/3TVDPfj
Your video popped up on my recommended list and it is right on time. I was asked to make a memory quilt for someone. I was stuck on what to do. Thank you for helping me think and see outside of the box.
I found you on RU-vid I’m gonna use your steps for dog bandannas I’ve seen so many videos but your is the easiest do you have a video on dog ? caps (hats)
Thank you for this tutorial i will be visiting family this summer and I will make these for the many dogs that I will be visiting. I might even put the names on them.
Exactly what I wanted to know - thank you! Seemed like letting a gourd that large would be too tough to eat. I will pull mine tender per your recommendation.
Mary, I'm a novice sewer. I followed your apron video this afternoon, Sunday. I really enjoyed making my apron for my 6'4" son. I followed along just fine. Thank you, Ann❤
