Whoever taped this is a saint. The English version only aired once and Wikipedia seems to have removed any info about it. I was worried it was lost forever. While I cannot speak Italian to save my life, this still made my week. I wish this was put on the DVD as a bonus feature.
I think there's another version where Erin Moran comes down the stairs wearing a blue shirt and smiles at the camera. It's been a few years since I've seen it, so my memory might be false.
Anson Williams last appearance as Potsie was in episode 22 of this season "Fonzie's Spots". It's kind of fitting that The Monotones song "The Book of Love" is used in this scene since the song was a hit in 1958 and 1958 was the year Season One of Happy Days took place in. Given all that happened between Richie, Ralph, Potsie and Fonzie through the years it seemed fitting to bookend it all with this scene between the two characters to really bring to a close the whole arc of all those characters.
I remember when the series went into it's early re-runs/syndication some stations would show this pilot version featuring the blonde actress playing Joanie. This lasted through most of the 1980s. It's very rare now to see the pilot in syndicated versions of Happy Days and it was never released on the First Season DVD of the series. Strangely enough no one has ever been able to identify who the blonde actress that played Joanie in the pilot, it was not Susan Neher as she played Joanie in the Love American Style segment. Someone did upload the complete pilot here on RU-vid some years ago and I managed to download it before it got taken down so I'm happy to have it in my collection now.
Like "The Odd Couple", by Season 5 they started to riff on every contemporary 70s fad. This was early 80s as the wide lapels 3 piece suit had replaced the leisure suits around 1978 or 79. They never really even tried to hit the styling of the early 60s in the last half of the show...as that looked like American Graffiti transitioning into early Beatles and Beach Boys. After Season 3 or 4 it was usually That 70s Show but with an old bike and cars.
Is this Anson Williams/ Pots Webber's final scene in the series? He really got shortened by the departures and became the butt of jokes for Fonzie and Howard. He could have been the counter advisor to younger characters as Fonzie is charismatic and unrealistic due to Potsie training to be a psychologist after all.
@@davidshowmaker4408 Yeah, you’re right. Why bother? Why even bother with costume, hair, and makeup? Just let the talent turn up in their civvies. Did they even need to build the sets? why bother 🙄
Mr. T was used by two companies to bury each other, it seems. (The actual Mr. T would be giving it right back to ABC when he told them "Your happy days are over, Fonzie" for an A-Team ad.)
Kind of a bittersweet ending to this episode. It totally kind of shows the state of the show altogether was once again halved by the abscense of two important characters...
I think the story is the pilot was originally shown with the Long version. However for syndication and reruns it was reshot with the new Joannie and reedited to fit the standard runtime. I really love the original edit with the looser pacing and extra moments, it's Even more filmic. I wish i could find it again. It seems to get copy right struck whenever uploaded.
Richie and Ralph pausing at the swinging doors, looking around with nostalgia . . . at a place they barely spent any time in. That's not "their" Arnold's they're looking at! 😄
Some years ago I was able to obtain a copy of the unaired pilot on VHS with the different Joanie. I wish I could put my hands on it again but it was definitely cool to see
I remember when "The Happy Days" pilot was on RU-vid and wish I had saved it. Funny enough, about a week after I saw it I met Garry Marshall... mentioned that I saw the pilot with "a different Joanie" and he thought I was referring to "Love American Style!" Oops.
Does anybody know if there was also a cut out part at the end of the wedding episode like this since it would have also been an hourlong episode like this one. There seems to be a “cut” during the flashback scenes when Memories is played. I often wondered what that missing part was.
