really like this one glad to have finally watched it i heard about it and saw a poster about it, great indeed Burt sure did a lot of greats including White Lightning and Navajo Joe the list would take me a long time hehe.
Smokey & the Bandit - greatest movie ever made Smokey & the Bandit Part II - worst sequel ever made Smokey & the Bandit Part III - worst movie ever made
Your video productions are astoundingly awesome. I always found it interesting how Burt continually surrounded himself with short (Alfie) and gay/effeminate (Nabors, O'Reilly, Deluise) actors as though he had a height and masculinity complex.
Thank you so much for the fantastic channel about Burt reynolds one of my favourite actors ever. As a child I grew up watching burt and clint films my dad had a betamax player if you remember those, with smokie and the bandit 2 and any which way you can. My brother and i literally wore out those tapes watching over and over again and drove my mum mad 😂. I still love those films now but didn't get to see the first smokie and the bandit until year's later which is obviously a better film. White lighting, gator, hooper and smokie and the bandit are amazing films which I love watching, timeless classics in my opinion. Your documentaries are excellent and very funny. Please keep up the good work Gator its so appreciated. One thing my dad and i was quite upset about being huge burt fans was the total lack of news of burts death and no tributes or anything on tv, it wasn't until i looked online until i found out. How can that be possible for one of the biggest movie stars ever. I'm from the UK so maybe it was different in the US. They never show white lightning or gator on tv here for some reason i bought them on dvd about 10 years ago and they were quite hard to find and expensive but worth it as i hadn't seen them before.
I saw this at a drive-in when I was 8 or 9, then I remember that this was televised as an ABC Friday Night Movie as were Drive-in, Walking Tall, Walking Tall Part 2, Buster And Billie and The Lords Of Flatbush, which were all movies I saw at Drive-ins, except Walking Tall, which I saw in a hard top theater.
Wayy back in the mythical times known as the 70's, my family had what was then called "cable t.v.". We still had a rotary dial for VHF and UHF, however there was something on all 13 channels. One channel played movies but not in the HBO sense. 2 movies would alternate showing times at 7, 9, and 11 for 10 days then they would change the out. THAT is where I first saw this movie! I've been hunting for it ever since! THANK you for uploading this! Here is hoping that you find a better copy of this "lost" classic!
GREAT JOB putting together this mini documentary! special thanks for mentioning James Best, I have always wished there could be a feature about him and his work.
I'd bet dollars to doughnuts it's the music rights. Same thing that holds up The Moonrunners with Waylon Jennings' estate, same thing that holds up American Hot Wax and various estates, and possibly the same reason why the Jerry Reed foundation refuses to allow any of his 1970's quadraphonic (surround sound) albums to get re-released after 50 some years. They don't seem to realize that the market for most of this stuff is dying off and eventually it all winds up in the public domain anyway.
I’ve got a few of his videos been a long time since I saw this one, like to find a good copy, early Burt and co. Oldsmobile had real hoss miss good movies 🎥 that he and all made .
My sister is in Jupiter this weekend and I looked up this theatre. It's sad they didn't retain the name. Still, if they are still providing quality entertainment -- fantastic.
This is awesome! I too have been searching for a clear copy of this movie. Loved it as a kid, mainly for the car. What a beauty! Thank you for your obsession!
Saw this movie in the mid ‘70s. Always thought it interesting that Art Carney (Ed Norton) chases Burt in “WW …” and Jackie Gleason (Ralph Kramden) chases him in “Smokey and the Bandit.”
I remember seeing the “World Premiere “ showing of this film in Murfreesboro Tn upon release. Seems like the Buick Special car was on display & some of the actors but not Burt. Long time ago & I was a teenager.
Dukes was based on Moonrunners. It had nothing to do with Smokey and the Bandit, other than minor roles with Sonny Shroyer, Ben Jones and John Schneider as an uncredited extra
His movies got so silly there was barely any racing in them just gags that are not funny and guest stars or should I say friends he could just hang with what’s the point
It’s corny but hilarious! Must have seen it like 5 times. Unfortunately unpretentious comedy like this is impossible in these days, when even James Bond has turned into a depressed grouch.
