One of the funniest comedy capers ever made and taken far too seriously by the critics! It was made for fun and we'll never again see so many movie legends together in one film having so many laughs on and off screen. I wish I could of been a fly on the wall. The fact that we have now lost so many of these legends makes the film even more special. Rest In Peace Guys. Brings a tear to my eye. Thanks Gator for a great documentary, I have been looking forward to this one. It would be great to find out if there is anymore unseen footage anywhere.

Was the movie a masterpiece? No. But it was fun and entertaining, which isn’t always bad either. I definitely prefer Cannonball Run by comparison. Your work - as always - was top shelf. Thanks for taking us along Gator! ~ Chuck

CITY HEAT...I can honestly say that was the film Of Burt's that truly dissapointed me to the core..The teaming of Burt and Clint should have been a classic, instead we got that silly, boring mess of a film. I saw it opening weekend and never bothered to revisit it.

You can't judge a squirrel's ability to swim like you would a fish. If you want to look at good swimmers, you go to fish, not squirrels. Similarly, if you want a deep, thought-provoking film, with artistic designs and brilliant character development, you don't go to Cannonball Run. It's fun, silly, absurd, way over the top. If it has a purpose, or you feel the absolute need to give it one, then it's nothing but a good time. That's all. And, in that way, it soars effortlessly through the trees. "It's not what you do. It's how you do it."

You can’t take The Cannonball Run seriously as a movie and reviewers who did / do just don’t get that it was made for fun, not for academy awards. It was pure fluff and fun and for that it gets 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

It may not have been a great movie but it was certainly funnier than the first one and that saying something. I actually think I prefer cannonball run 2. What makes hal Needham movies so good is it just seems like a bunch of friends having a great time making a movie.

Another great video Gator, thanks for these! The movie was poor with only a few funny moments. Had to agree with Ebert, Burt was talented and wasted himself in these pictures. Should have stopped at Cannonball Run. Hal Needham wasn't a good director and Burt was far too loyal to him - which I guess was a trait Burt had, which probably did him no favours in his career.

Hal Needham seemed to get worse over time instead of better. His very first movie S&TB came out great all things considered and Hooper a year after was solid also. It was every movie he did with Burt after that slowly got worse and worse and worse until bottoming out with CR2. I blame the script writers and whoever handed him the screenplays because he was only interested in mostly directing stunts he openly didn't care about character development or the script or the plot or quality. He was just in it for the cash. After the negative reviews for Smokey and the Bandit 2 he took out a full-page ad in Variety Magazine of himself lounging in a wheelbarrow full of money that film earned. We can blame the studio handing him garbage to work with as much as we might want to point the finger at him personally.

@@jamesnoble3502 I agree Needham’s directing for lazier over time. He wrote the screenplays for Megaforce (thank God, Burt wasn’t in that) and Stroker Ace and he wrote Cannonball 2 with producer Al Ruddy and Harvey Miller (one of the taxi writers) and it shows!! They should have not done a Cannonball without Brock Yates involvement. So really, we can point the finger at him. They were his projects from the get go!! Roger Ebert said ‘This is the sixth time Needham has directed Reynolds. Greater love hath no actor, than that he sacrifice his career on the altar of friendship.’ And I hate to say he was right. Burt’s loyalty to Needham cost him. It speaks volumes how Needham’s movies without Burt performed, and that his directing career was over, once Burt lost his box office power. It’s shameful that Burt had a passion for directing, that Needham didn’t, he was only in it to make as much money as he could, yet he directed more movies than Burt.

Compared to the first Cannonball Run movie this one was obviously done on the cheap as fast as possible with shoddy editing and a non-existent script. They may as well have named it "Burt and Friends Cash a Check" I enjoyed watching these movies on TV growing up too mainly to see the cool cars but this film is HORRIBLE and easily and far away his worst film with Hal Needham

@@GATORMcKLUSKYreviews Burt was too loyal to his buddy Hal. After Bandit 2 he wanted to get away from the good ol' boy roles and do more serious movies but he kept getting lured back over and over again with promises of big paychecks for more wacky car chase parts. He admitted to it years later.
