Chicago hardware foundry was right next to the a highwood shops of the North Shore Line. When the Illinois Railway Museum was formed in the 50s its first home was in the former foundry, whoever owned it then was one of the founders. Today IRM is in Union, IL and is the largest railway museum in the country. And they run a lot of North Shore line trains.
I'm still having problems with siphoning. I have followed this video. A couple of times. And I made sure that when I canned my green beans yesterday they did not go above 11 pounds of pressure. For two minutes they were up to 12 pounds. But that was it. And I still have siphoning happening. What can I be doing wrong?
@@TheMudbrooker Holy Cow!! I don't know how I got it in my head that I was supposed to leave a half inch headspace. I have read and reread my ball blue book more times than I can count in just this year alone. But I think I've been doing this for years. I could've swore it said a half an inch. That's my problem! Thank you!!🙏
Thank you so much for your video...this is has been the most informative and helpful video I have found also. This was my first time using a pressure canner and I was nervous. I did a test run, and everything you describe in your video with regard to getting too much pressure and then trying to regulate it happened. I am so thankful I found your video before I tried canning with real food. I appreciate your step-by-step, easy to follow instructions, and the "real" attempt worked just as you described. Thank you!
Thank you for doing this video - so much help to me- I just bought a 16 q presto canner today and I was very nervous! Your video walked me through everything !
If worried about aluminium put down that beverage can! That ain't gonna happen. Lol.Food passes through the cookware in a matter of minutes, beverages sit in there for weeks/months. rooster.
Can you help please? I closed my oven door and it caused the Regulator to move just enough for a quick burst of steam came out. This was right after I turned of the heat, end of processing time. Would you start from the beginning and double process? Thanks!
Thank you! I know this is an older video but it is very informative. Have been using cast iron pans (skillets 😂) most of my life and was on a quest for an additional skillet. Have given too many of them to my sons - most of which were bought at yard sales and such. I never paid much mind to the brand - rather, I judge it on how slick the interior surface is and the weight. Since I am on a quest for an additional skillet I started watching RU-vids ! Thank you in my quest ❤. I am 70 years old and never knew any of this 😂❤ But I am just buying a Pan !
Glad I found your channel! Feels like I"m doing it right! After you cook your taters, do you just dump the oil out and wipe it or do you use hot water, wipe it dry and re-coat it?
After buying 80 plus pieces from goodwill and due to the shipping costs have quit buying from them. At one time it was worth supporting their efforts, but no more.
I like my barley soup kind of brothy too. Although sometimes a teaspoon r tablespoon of tomato paste can give your soups a nice added bit of flavor with out making them taste like tomatoes.
Do your homework to know what you are looking at in cast iron cookware. Just picked up a super crusty #10 at Goodwill for $15. Cooking surface clean, flat bottom,. no cracks. Bottom so crusty it gave no info. I knew what it was and with a little crust removal, it was as I thought...a Wagner 1060s. Just a nice using size.
In your "economy" section you showed a National with the fancy logo in the center with National at the top. I just ordered one just like it except there is no catalog number, but just a size number at the 6 oclock position, number 8. Would it be a safe bet then that this is pre 1924?
@@TheMudbrooker Maybe you know the answer to this question also. I have an unmarked dutch oven with a hammered lid, and the number 8 on the inside of the lid and on the bottom of the pot. I didn't notice until just today that there's a small handle/lip (not part of the actual wire handle) and noticed a W on it on the underside of the lip looking at the bottom of the pot. Is this an actual Wagner Dutch oven?
Great job Mud. I'm gonna try to talk my wife into fixing this for me, looks scrumptious. Thanks for the show, hope your having a great weekend, bye for now!
I've never seen something so guuuud in a looooong time. Mud you knocked this 1 & da jam, OUT DA PARK!!! I'm to goofy & BROKE or CHEAP to ever make this. I might have to reconsider cost bc this is staying in my head too long.😂😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you for sharing.
@themudbrooker I have a really large pan that I can't identify. any chance you could look at some pictures and give your opinion? there's no country of origin, or any markings at all.
