Ever wondered what life looks like on the other side of leaving it all?
Quitting your job, selling your house and buy a boat to sail around the World?
We did too. And then, we took the plunge.
We are Ryan and Sophie, an American guy and a French girl who met in Sweden, on a cold night of March 2015. Shortly thereafter, we decided to leave our corporate jobs to live a big sailing adventure around the World together.
We had no experience of sailing at all before we started, and had honestly no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Turns out, with a bit of willpower and work, anything goes. The dream came true on June 5th of 2018, when we finally got to set sail from our home port in Stockholm.
Welcome to our channel, where we tell the stories of our sailing voyage, from zero experience to full-time cruising!
Don't forget to subscribe (it helps us a lot ;)) and check out our website at www.ryanandsophie.com for more sailing-related photos and articles!
This Was Pretty Cool! Does Anybody Remember A Boating Magazine From 55 Years Ago That Had Various Boat Plans, One Being A Small Hydroplane Called A Dingbat? Thank You.
Holy crap -- $8,100 for the batteries, for a total drivetrain cost of $13,550?! I love the _idea_ of an electric powerplant, but at that pricepoint it's gonna be a non-starter for many of us.
Enlisting your friends to sand, why didn't I think of that?! This is the best, such an amazing build, I can't wait to see it this weekend! I had the same reaction when seeing this in the catalog but I think I'll need some time after my latest round of sanding to convince myself this is a good idea haha
She turned out beautifully! That is a project to be proud of, for sure. Congrats Sophie for putting together an amazing looking finished product (and for introducing me to a company I had no idea existed in, essentially, my backyard!) Definitely looking forward to the outfitting of electrics and rigging.
I chose my location poorly. I was down by the South River, on land, and couldn't see much at all, let alone hear the roar of the jets. But I made up for it decades ago by serving on a carrier with F-14s and -18s for 4 years. Great video Sophie, nice to get a foreign viewpoint on an Annapolis tradition.
Sophie, random question I know, but I saw one of your old videos a while back where you recommended a good boat shoe, and I can’t find that video anymore…… do you recall what kind of shoe that was?
While some epoxies have no amine blush-which is fine, some of the best epoxies do. It's not the problem people imagine. Since you have to sand the epoxy anyways before paint or varnish, simply scuff it instead with a wet Scotchbrite pad, and this will remove all the amine as well as prep the surface in one easy step. If it needs to be flatter, you have to sand it more regardless of what type of epoxy. It's rarely an issue. As far as mixing ratios go, the pumps supplied by the maker enable easy use regardless of the ratio. I use a gram scale myself.
I know this video is a year old, but might I suggest adding the link to the course in either the video description or in the comments section? A side note, I'll probably be buying the course in the next few days.
even if the swap didn’t produce drastic noise reduction, the old foam was starting to fail and was likely to start affecting the air filter as it disintegrated into dust… that is, it was a job needing to be done soon anyway.
Easy for me to mention, but a practical book for business entrepreneurs based on your experiences could be valuable for business students. You have lived what some entrepreneurs only dream of.. just a thought.
I would go with “crab cake” having had many crab cakes at the long gone Annapolis market, it is a great name and symbolic of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Loved the carpet shark idea with ruined mixture of pooh. You made a great movie about the kit and its construction. Great to see you two. Hope lil Barnacle is hanging tough. The electric motor and all the finishing touches look marvelous together. Glad you made a boat builder out of youselves. TTYL
